Trigger. Film (2023)
From Series to Cinema: Why "Trigger" Didn't Ignite
The movie "Trigger" immediately tries to immerse us in the unique atmosphere of a thriller, characteristic of the series with the same name. But instead of the expected epic transition to the big screen, we receive merely an elongated episode, contributing nothing new to the hero's story or the series. It seems the creators focused exclusively on the fans, leaving new viewers on the sidelines of the context and relationships between characters. This approach causes confusion, considering the aim to attract a wide audience to the big screens.
The film itself seems more like schizophrenic delirium, hidden behind the facade of a psychological game and ominous music. The behavior of the main character remains unjustified and incomprehensible without the context of the series, making it strange and illogical for new viewers. This represents a missed opportunity for a deep and captivating cinematic work capable of attracting and retaining a new audience.
At the same time, the quality performance of the actors, who flawlessly embody their characters following the established rules and context, cannot go unmentioned. The budget investments are also felt: the film looks expensive and high-quality thanks to excellent camera work. However, despite the visual appeal and good acting, the script turns out to be weak, and its realization is unclear and unsatisfactory.
In the end, "Trigger" leaves mixed feelings. On one hand, it's a quality product with good acting and visual presentation. On the other, it's an example of a missed opportunity to create something new and significant. The film may please devoted fans but is unlikely to become anything significant and memorable for a wider audience.
Jury Duty (2023)
Justice or Reality Show? Ronald's Fate: The Story of a Juror
"Jury Duty" is a series that has turned my view of legal dramas and comedies upside down. The main attraction is James Marsden, whose brilliant humor and self-irony shine throughout. His character seems in on the joke, making him more appealing and realistic. The experimental approach, where all actors except Ronald know the real script, creates a unique and thrilling show full of unexpected turns and humorous situations.
Ronald, arriving for jury selection, enters a fictional case crafted just for him. Meeting other jurors, including famous actor and reluctant juror James Marsden, he discovers a world of absurdities and genuine emotion. Plotlines like secret discoveries during a site visit and Ronald's role as jury foreman add depth and complexity, making each episode engaging and unpredictable.
The series is infused with drama, comedy, and unpredictability, making it a great choice for those seeking something fresh and unusual in the realm of legal dramas. It entertains and provokes thought about one's role in the justice system and how easily reality can be manipulated. "Jury Duty" is more than just a show; it's a social experiment that showcases the complexity of human psychology and interaction.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Lost in the Marshes: Why 'Where the Crawdads Sing' Disappoints
The film "Where the Crawdads Sing" initially captivates with its visual beauty and promise of an interesting narrative. However, the plot quickly becomes drawn out, trapping the viewer in long, unclear romantic lines that don't add depth to the characters. Attempts to incorporate thriller elements seem inappropriate and only highlight the story's weakness.
Details such as the perfect condition of the house and the heroine's clothing create a fairy-tale feel and detachment from reality, making the film implausible and unable to evoke an emotional response. The self-education of the heroine is particularly implausible. Clean clothes, well-groomed appearance, and rapid literacy learning seem unrealistic and reduce the likelihood of empathy from the viewer.
All this creates the impression that "Where the Crawdads Sing" is more of a colorful fairy tale than a serious drama. The men encountered by the heroine seem to have stepped out of fashion magazines, emphasizing the disconnect from reality. The film, although visually appealing, leaves a feeling of incompleteness and incompleteness.
This story is more like a beautifully illustrated fairy tale than a captivating drama. Thus, "Where the Crawdads Sing" leaves many questions and disappointment. The expectations created by its beginning remain unfulfilled, making it one of the weakest films, despite good performance.
Ultimately, the film may be worth watching for its beautiful landscapes and visual style, but as a deep, moving story, it unfortunately does not hold attention. There is a specific misunderstanding about the use of graphics in the film; if the budget did not allow for good, inconspicuous graphics, why use it at all, especially where it is completely unnecessary.
Only after watching the film did I learn that it was made based on a book, I assume that such a fairy-tale adaptation resulted from cutting scenes and details. Apparently, it is better to read the book than to watch this film.
