Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
hilarious
This is one of those movies that you either love or hate. Of those who saw it, they either deemed it non-stop uncontrollable hilarity or just an utter mess of confusion that was a waste of time or money. I tend to side with the former. The screenplay was original and kept to the spirit of the book and the characters had a unique quirkiness about them. This is a movie with a true anti-hero and goes against the grain of many Hollywood movies. If you're willing to suspend reality and are into something totally zany and unpredictable, then this is the movie to see.
The Cross (2001)
An accurate depiction
It's obvious that those involved in this production went to great lengths to make an accurate reflection of the events of the time as well as focussing on character development. The motivation and passion of Peter and Mary and genuinely displayed. It is the type of film in which you really feel brought back in time.
Waking Life (2001)
refreshing
This is one of the best animated features to come along in years. It goes beyond the boundaries of structure and dares to challenge its audience on a cerebral level. The screenwriting is superb and the characters unique, compelling, and wanting you to get to know them more.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
incredible disappointment
This movie was the most disappointing movie of the decade. The massive hype accompanying the film further reinforced its dismal impact. There was no justifiable ending whatsoever and it wasn't scary in the least. The acting and the editing were abysmal. The one redeeming factor of the film was that it was less than 90 minutes long.
Bernard and the Genie (1991)
a gem
It's rare that a Christmas movie like this comes along. There are great acting performances, particularly from Lenny Henry and Rowan Atkinson. It's naturally funny which is a rarity when most Christmas movies seem to be forced comedies. The storyline piques your curiosity and finishes with a very satisfying, non-traditional conclusion.
