Ghostbusters (2016)
Was an abomination of the first movies.
This movie was so tasteless, filled with man hating and race card innuendos that it irrevocably hurt the movie. The story was strained, forced, and the writing was so poor it seemed like a 90 something odd minute skit on SNL. It was a parody of the original and had no magic, no feeling, and no passion that captivated audiences with the first two films. All in all it injured the spirit and fun of the first two original Ghostbusters. The direction of this film was filled with careless mishap. The industry ought to be ashamed of itself. At least call it a parody like it really is; a poorly thought out parody of a great franchise. Another useless Hollywood special effects movie that will be forgotten. I hope to forget that this abomination of a film ever existed.
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
Not what you think.
The movie wasn't bad. People here have over-sensationalized the movie; parroting to the tune of what the popular media machine wants them to believe. I am a woman (young and not middle aged I am in my 20's) and this movie was not degrading. It is a powerful love story between a man and a woman and it shows how love helps shape two people to create a unified whole.
There have been worse movies out there namely; "Pretty Woman" that degrade women as a whole. "Pretty Woman" offered audiences a look at glamorizing prostitution like there was some pot of gold at the end of the prostitution rainbow. Any Disney princess movie degrades women (young and old) on a larger eclectic whole by teaching young women that only the beautiful get their dreams to come true; such an American sentiment.
I have recommended that the only fault of this movie is to read the books. If you want to feel more in touch with these characters than reading the books is needed. Many average individuals no longer pick up a book to read and you surely are missing out on this story if you don't read. No book to film adaptation is perfect. If you want to go watch a love story that isn't your typical sort of love; this is your movie.
Desert Son (2010)
Don't waste your time. Annoying protagonist of the year goes to Phillip.
Phillip was the most annoying protagonist I have ever witnessed in a movie. Not only was the dialogue obnoxious, but the characters were too. Phillip couldn't grow a set the entire movie and came out learning nothing and being weak. Jack slowly slipped into a maniac character who went on a killing spree. He ended up killing a Maid, Lucy, the Priest, but not Phillip. Lucy and Phillip just stood around coaxing him not to do it. No one stood up to him they just went along reluctantly. At the end when Phillip for a few seconds grows a pair of testicles he and Lucy escape by stabbing Jack. However, Phillip doesn't finish the job and the maniac goes back after them wounded. After a split second kiss between Lucy and Phillip, Jack comes back to the scene and calls for Lucy. Like a moron she goes out to meet Jack, Phillip doesn't stop her. He just lets her walk to her death. At the end Phillip is the only survivor, or assumed survivor because we assume Jack bleeds to death. Terrible movie overall that was unfulfillable to the watcher and the protagonist underwent no change at all. It didn't even resolve the issue between his father who kicked him out in the middle of nowhere to begin with. What about the cops and the death of the Maid? The bodies of everyone? Don't waste your time. This had potential but quickly fizzled.
