My Darling Vivian (2020)
Poignant...
Often former spouses of celebrities are relegated to an afterthought, if that. This poignant documentary reveals the uncaring attitude of an industry who contributed in the heartbreak of divorce coupled with obvious racial prejudices. Most notable is the deletion of the son-in-law's tribute to his father-in-law at the memorial simply because he dedicated to Vivian.
More documentaries like this are needed. "My Darling Vivian" shows the media's determination to overlook the flaws of those we admire, while covering the humanness of the wife who loved until her dying breath. It lends a poignant perspective to Mr Cash's life overall.
Bless Their Little Hearts (1983)
Realistic and riveting...
This film brings back so many memories of my childhood...it is for me, poignant, as I remember how we struggled growing up in Compton-the poverty, the infidelity, the arguments...all were a part of everyday life for us.
I love that it's filmed in black and white. The way the mother fusses and the children, the infrequent shows of affection are powerful...the father's tendency to want to escape while the mother stays focused (even as the friend encourages her to cheat)-all so excellently portrayed by the actors.
I was curious as to what happened to the actors. I couldn't find anything on Nate Hardman but I did learn that Kaycee Moore passed away in 2021.
