Red, White & Royal Blue (2023)
Okay
Love the book. I wasn't really prepared for this as a movie. After watching it, I really feel like the story does not work as a movie at all. This would have been a great tv series in my opinion. I felt like the camera work was pretty odd and strange at the start of the film. We are just thrown into the story, which was somewhat confusing in the introduction. There's many things missing from the book that I wish were here. A lot of the sex scenes were glossed over, which I totally understand, but those moments were necessary for the characters and Alex's internal struggles. One scene I really miss is the kitchen and we never got to see David (Henry's dog) !!! I am a bit disappointed with this film and the direction in which it was taken. This story deserved better tbh.
Miraculous - Le film (2023)
Good
Is it perfect no? Did I hate the songs initially yes. Has it grown on me yes. Like, it's a kids movie for starters and it's a retelling. It's not traditionally canon to the show. I don't know why people are expecting perfection. They told the whole story of about 5 seasons in one movie. I think the team did a great job. Yes, I agree the singing for Marinette, is different than the actor's voice, but I love that they chose to utilize the original french singer. I respect that choice.
I watch Indian movies from time to time and the juxtaposition of the actor's voice vs. The singing voice has no effect on the story. Singing is used to expressed emotions that cannot be expressed in any other way. The mismatch of the voice really shouldn't matter too much.
Overall, cute movie. Highly recommend.
Annarasumanara (2022)
Interesting
I loved the music in this movie. I wish we saw more interactions between the magician and the girl. I wish it was more fantasy based and explored more about their abilities.
I found it weird that he was in hospital and stole a child (I think that's what happened). That made me sad. The story got too realistic for what I initially signed up for. I am curious what age demographic this film is geared towards because it seems too adultlike for my liking.
I wish this movie catered more towards young children, which would allow it to thrive. The magician was great. He needed a ton more screen time. I need to see more of his work.
My Holo Love (2020)
Great
Super cute. My boyfriend and I have always been in a long distance relationship. This story somewhat examines my day-to-day life. It sucks that things did not work out with the hologram, but the other guy is cute too.
I guess my only complaint is the weird stuff with him being an ex-convict. That was weird, but that's okay. The love story was good while it lasted.
I would love to see more stuff like this, analyzing relationships that are not entirely physical based, but rather virtually based. Love Alarm was another interesting story based on electronic love too. I want to see more of this, but it can be difficult to achieve on screen.
Cinderellawa Ne Myungui Gisa: Episode #1.16 (2016)
Cute
Fell into K-Dramas this year. I enjoy seeing the love stories. This one was okay. My favorite is Coffee and Prince and this hit some of the good vibes. The main character was nice and the story wasnt always predictable. In ways, I wish it was more predictable because then the story just got stupid and annoying towards the end. I don't believe I would rewatch this, but the main character was great. It is unfortunate, the poor girl trope is being used, but her character work is so fascinating and energetic.
The boys are all losers and I hate them all. They don't deserve Ha-won at all, and she deserves so much better. A side note that does not affect the review. I felt all three love interests were ugly.
I really didn't like the stepmom and sister. Yes, we're not supposed to like them, but I always felt that their scenes were random and unnecessary.
Now, Ha-won's father... I'm not familiar with the culture. But the fact that her father slapped her was outrageous. I was furious. He had no right to hit her. IDC. That was not okay.
Scream VI (2023)
Better than Scream V
When the movie started. I was excited. Like wow we're going to see this movie from the perspective of the killers. Then we all know how that went...
It was going to be something different and then we went back into the boring tropes. As I said in my previous review of Scream V. Why can't the characters do a simple google search? Like wow. This guy who tried to kill me actually has a family who might be upset? Like I understand ptsd from an event like that. But someone who tried to kill you. I am sure at least one person would be interested in seeing the killer's family. Drive by their house. Google them. I can't imagine people not being interested in researching their potential killer's family.
Unfortunately, Courtney Cox was in this movie too and appears to have not died. How disappointing...At least Neve Campbell missed out on this one.
I would watch the next installment if there was one, but the killers need more work. The story needs more work. I found myself skipping ahead through this movie because I was just over it. Just get on with it, tell me who the killer is, and show me how all the heroes survive again. Poor side characters, not cool. But nothing really stands out in this movie. Maybe in the next installment, the characters can go on vacation together. Someday, the scream killers will get all the characters, but that won't happen until it's actually over.
Omg Hayden Panettiere is in this? I thought it was a look-a-like XD. I did not rewatch the others before this.
Scream (2022)
It's a Scream Movie
I liked it. I like watching all the scream movies; however, each movie just rehashes itself. I would like to see something different than the normal tropes. Like the tropes in these movies, is to make fun of horror movies, but it just keeps repeating the same exact tropes it has already made fun of in the previous movies.
They really haven't created anything new even though in this movie, they started to kill the original characters and claim that the stakes have been risen. Like yeah, it's not cool, you killed off an original character...so sad... But seriously just kill Courtney Cox's character off. I'll be super happy.
But it feels like this recent installment only brought back the original characters to get people to see the movie. I want to see something new and different with all the good stuff. Like the original is always going to be better, so why create the same story with basic characters? Create something new. The killers didn't feel inspiring in this movie, but seriously. If the main characters just googled people... I think they would find out a lot about them before this even happened.
Scream can have its dumb moments, but when the characters lack logic that's so resourceful to them today (the freaking internet). They have really wasted their potential. I don't like the use of cell phones or computers in movies, but interrogating their friend would be so resourceful rather than just sussing them and being like stay away from me.
Arcane: League of Legends: The Base Violence Necessary for Change (2021)
I am here for it
Started playing the game in 2016. I am here for the show. I really can't distinguish how difficult it is to watch the show and never play the game. The art style alone is a reason to watch the show. It's very complex. The story is basic, but yeah, I couldn't care less.
Because waiting for the episodes to release every week was adrenalin enough. I knew these characters before going in and seeing them develop and their story was so facinating.
I can't wait for the next season to release. So far, no information about it has been provided. I hope we venture somewhere else in Runeterra like Bilgewater or Demacia and then go back and crossover to Piltover/Zaun. I love seeing these chatacters alive on screen. I could watch these forever.
Never Have I Ever: ...said goodbye (2023)
It's Okay
I initially watched this show for the culture. I found this last season to tie up a lot of loose strings, but I also felt disappointed with the added characters. I felt characters were missing from the picture such as Kamala's bf and Aneesa. I missed the interactions between Devi and her mom. I felt like this show was entirely based on their interactions and their battles of difference with each other every season, but for this season everything felt very surface level. It is nice to see how Devi has learned and progressed in herself, but there were no surprises this season. Everything was standard and nicely tied up into a bow.
Overall, I would watch the next season if it was renewed because I am here for the culture.
