Love Lies Bleeding (2024)
Everything I hoped Drive Away Dolls would have been
I went to this movie not knowing anything about it. I left with a smile on my face. It was highly entertaining. I found just about every aspect of this film perfect. The acting was believable, and the casting was brilliant. The characters were highly likable, even when they were doing absolutely horrible things. It is a story of love, hate, revenge, fear, courage, and steroid abuse. There are many lessons to be learned from this movie. I highly suggest taking the time to see it in the theater, on the big screen. It felt like a Tarantino/Coen movie.
Kristen Stewart is absolutely brilliant. You really feel for her character, and all she has been through.
Katy O'Brian is a monster, she deserves an Oscar for this film.
9/10 stars, highly recommended.
Arthur the King (2024)
If you like dogs, you will like this
I absolutely loved this movie. It isn't going to win any awards, but it is very entertaining. From start to finish, I loved every minute of it. I don't want to give any spoilers in this review, but I will say, those most have been some good meatballs. This movie may be tough to watch for some, bring a box of tissues. It was nice to see Nathalie Emmanuel in a film, it took me most of the movie to realize where I knew her from. I'll let you figure that out. Very inspiring tale about the love between man and beast. Dogs are smarter than we often realize, and they are very loyal. The scenery is also well filmed and beautiful. 10 stars, worth seeing in the theater!
Ordinary Angels (2024)
Not Easy To Watch
BRAVO! TEN OF TEN STARS!!!! This is a wild ride with many ups and downs. It is a beautifully told story of a family struggling with insurmountable obstacles. The acting is brilliant. The young girls are very believable, and often hard to watch in their hardships. Hillary Swank deserves to win awards for her role. Alan Ritchson (7ft Reacher Actor) plays a wonderful father who will do anything for his family. Bring a box of tissues, this has several tear jerking moments. This movie will give you hope for humanity, it shows how the love of a community can get together to overcome anything. Perhaps the best film of 2024.
Drive-Away Dolls (2024)
Mildy Entertaining - Not Funny
The Coen Brothers have made some of my all time favorite movies. I went into this film with high hopes. The trailers looked amazing. Unfortunately, the trailers contained most of the decent parts of the film. The main story line was extremely weak. I guess it was supposed to be funny, but it wasn't. It was extremely unbelievable, and they could have thought of a million better stories. One of the actors looked so much like JB Smoove, I was extremely confused if it was him in makeup. Also, they threw in some big name actors with completely pointless roles.
If you go into this movie with zero expectations, and without seeing the trailer, you may enjoy it. I had high hopes, and walked away very let down.
Poor Things (2023)
Interesting. Visually Appealing
First off, this was a very odd movie. The story line is very strange. The actors were most excellent. Emma Stone is magnificent. She shows a lot of skin in this movie. She is extremely dedicated to the character, and is very believable in this role A+ job Ms Stone. Mark Ruffalo is annoying, very annoying. He is extremely whiny, need, and hard to stomach. Willem Defoe is a national treasure. We must protect this man at all costs. His one of a kind face only adds to his brilliant performance. This movie is visually stunning. A must see on the big screen. I rate it 7 out of 10 stars because I was a bit bored, but I suggest it.
Saltburn (2023)
Extremely Boring and Nasty
I will admit, I went into this movie blind. I had no idea what it was about and no expectations. The first hour was extremely slow and boring. The acting was ok, the characters weren't realistic at all. It got pretty nasty, not sure why it wasn't rated NC-17. My biggest issue with this movie is why it was so slow and boring. For some reason, they decided to wait until the very end, to put in all the pertinent scenes. Nobody wants to see a movie where everything important that happens during the story is left out, for the last 5min. This was really bad. Like I said, the acting was ok, but it was not a good movie.
Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
Bored Out of My Mind
I was bored out of my mind. I haven't seen any of the other films in the series, which may explain why I was so bored. The whole other realm thing was extremely confusing. The acting was solid, but the story line was boring and didn't make much sense. I like my horror movies to be scary, make me check the closet before I go to sleep that night. That was not the case with this movie. As long as nobody counts down backwards from 10, I should be safe. Perhaps if I saw the other films in the series, I would have enjoyed this one more. Unfortunately, I had not, and I won't after seeing this one. Thanks.
