Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet: Backstory! (2021)
It's only one way down from here
There is no easy way to say this, so I'll just put it out there. It's going to be near impossible for Mythic Quest to top this episode.
The absolute brilliance of the acting and writing in this episode - that they manage to cram such a rich, intriguing story into less than an hour of screen time is sheer Emmy-worthy effort!
Until now, Carl was this annoying drunk that loved backstories, but never had one of his own besides his drugfueled sex escapades.
This truly sheds a different light on his character and it really expands Mythic Quest and I am here for it.
News of the World (2020)
A very enjoyable film!
Rarely does a movie strike me to write a review. For reasons unbeknownst to me, this is one of those movies that compelled me to.
Tom Hanks' acting shines through. His character being that of a morally and ethically sound man with his warm and charm about him. One scene especially truly captured the beauty of his acting and the essence of the movie - and that is his story of "Keel Run".
This is not a movie about saving the world, it is not an epic adventure or an action-packed thriller. It is a slowburn drama movie with a sense of warmth and humanity to its characters and it's all the better for it.
Very enjoyable indeed.
Dracula: The Dark Compass (2020)
Long way to fall from grace.
The first two episodes were enticing, dark, gritty and borderline brilliant. Claes Bang was the absolute star of the show with a thrilling performance as the master of darkness.
To my dismay, the third episode takes a turn for the worst, pushing Dracula out of the picture and basically spends the first 20 minutes force feeding us with the modern society we all live in and know by heart (focusing on some Instagram app and likes etc.).
I am oblivious to why a director would spend screen time on something a viewer is familiar with in their lives, as if it's in the sake of trying to establish a theme or feel - but it never really does.
We are left with one-dimensional characters, bland acting and much less screen time by Claes Bang.
This took a turn for the worst and I can only scratch my head about who chose this direction for an otherwise amazing series.
