Killer Prom (2020)
Why?? Why?? Why??
I would've liked to have seen more of a back story with Hannah, Sienna, and where Siennas infatuation with Tony began. I think the writers decision to immediately kill Hannah off wasn't very well thought out and it left nothing to really build upon. With that being said I feel the movie took a nose dive pretty quickly into it. I also think showing some of Tony's life and grief before Sienna moving in would've given the movie a little more depth and meaning. Is it just me or does it seem like Yvonne Zima who plays Sienna always plays the exact same character in every lifetime movie she is in? I would like to see her play a role in something where she has to actually show another side of her acting ability. For me her character is tired and way too needy. I'm not a fan of her style of acting in this film or really in any of her lifetime films. She comes across very phony and monotone. She has the most annoying soft spoken voice. It's hard to watch her for any real length of time without wanting to bang your head into the wall. I almost wonder if she tries to control her voice to make it sound that way or if that's really how she speaks. Noone attacks or kills someone with that meek toned & timid voice. It's like saying "Excuse me sir but I am going to rob you now so please give me your money & thank you for your time." I can't believe how incredibly unbelievable Yvonne is as Sienna. Is she supposed to be 18? Isn't she a little old for prom? Thank goodness Tony's daughter is aware & smart enough to put together that something isn't right about Sienna. She figured out pretty quickly that Sienna was infatuated with her dad & lying to the entire family about her motives. It dawned on me that the parent(s) always discount their child(ren) when they figure out something is off about the character playing the villain. I don't want to ruin it for others that haven't seen the movie but the ending is a typical lifetime ending. The good always trumps evil. The bad guy or girl either dies or goes to jail.
Girl Fight (2011)
Tragic Reality *Anne Heche such a loss *
I have seen this film several times before but I never really gave the subject matter any real deep thought until now. Anne Heche plays the mother of the victim in this movie. She does a remarkable job navigating through the different emotions that a mother would be experiencing if their child went through this ordeal. Her talents are so diverse and profound that I realize how much of a loss her death truly is.
The fact that this film is based on a true story is sickening. It's a stone cold reminder of how hard it is to be a teenager and how much teens want to be liked and accepted. They always want to be what they aren't and are never really content with who they are. That's exactly what happens in this movie and a post on the Internet causes Hailey to get jumped by her so called new popular friends. For more than 30 minutes this girl was beaten as they took turns whaling on her and to make it worse they taped the beating and posted it on the Internet. The film really tries to hone in on the physical and emotional damage that Hailey and her family face.
I found it pretty disturbing that these girls that did this faced very little punishment getting off with 15 days in jail up to 3 years probation. They should've received much harsher sentences for the beating they inflicted on this girl. This is where our justice system completely fails victims & their families. Its pretty sad that someone can beat a dog and get only 2 years but you beat someone up you get a little slap on the wrist.
I have to wonder where these girls parents were and what kind of children were they raising? It blows my mind how incredibly cruel and nasty kids can be to each other or in this case to Hailey. I hope that parents can take something away from this film and talk to their children about bullying and not following along with people that are going to only get them into trouble.
Her Husband's Betrayal (2013)
Out of the Box...for Woods
I can't stand reading reviews that offer a reader the entire movie plot. Congratulations if you are this person. You have managed to ruin the entire film for a potential viewer. I was really saddened to see the remarks about Jacqueline Macinnes Wood and her acting or lack there of. I have to say I don't feel the same sediment. I think this role was quite a change from her role on the Bold & Beautiful as Steffi Forrester. She did a great job of portraying a woman scorned and a mother that would go to the ends of the earth to find her child. Alot of you were commenting about her make-up being too perfect as she was running around everywhere. I don't think it was overdone. She is very fair to begin with and has very porcelain like skin. (If you remember the briefcase and the pictures of the other women you should recall they were all very beautiful, not frumpy or plain Janes if you will.) I believe she did a great job considering how fast the film revealed it's plot. I didn't care for Riley Coulter, Carl Higgins, or whoever his character was. He didn't capture a man that could attract that many women. . I didn't think it was the worst movie ever but I do believe it's one of the same plot lines that LMN uses over & over. The couple is happy at the beginning, something goes awry, someone plays the detective, they have a good/bad guy scene at the end, and the bad person gets shot, and either dies or is taken in to police custody. Just saying.
Cruel Instruction (2022)
Every teen parent MUST see
This was probably one of the best Lifetime movies I have seen in a long time. I was really shocked to see that this movie was based on a true story. As a parent to a teenage girl this movie really hit home and struck a cord with me. I'm not going to run through specific characters because I don't want to ruin it for anyone that hasn't seen it but I think every character brought their A game and something unique to this story. I am so glad that this film brought attention to something I had no clue even existed. This movie serves a great purpose for parents to REALLY do their homework. Don't just trust anyone with your child. Go tour the place and ask questions. Anyone can make a brochure look good. As parents we trust that professionals have the best of intentions. I think the parents and so many people in this facility failed these girls in every way possible. I am so glad Kayla broke the rules and got to that phone. I don't think Angela would have made it to her 18th birthday otherwise. I am so sorry that these girls had to go through this and I hope they got the help they needed to deal with the trauma.
Driven Underground (2015)
Another Predictable Lifetime movie
I'm not a huge fan of Kristy Swanson to begin with. She seems like a very nice person but her acting is subpar at best. She often overacts any emotion she is supposed to be portraying in her character or maybe it's better to say she just doesn't come across genuine. She lacks sincerity in her facial expressions. I feel like every lifetime movie is very predictable anymore. The bad guy goes down or goes off to jail and two people fall in love. The one thing I really didn't like about this movie was Lochlyn Munro playing the bad guy. The mustache he had was so ridiculous, it was hard to look at. I like him so much more when he plays the good guy roll. I'm not sure who plays Kristy's daughter but she to did a horrible job of acting. She is standing right inside the barn door and she keeps sticking her head out knowing that the man that wants her dead is only a few feet away. I guess the flight or fight response was not working for her.. It wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen but it's definitely not in my top 10.
