Arthur Rambo (2021)
Entertaining story to reflect on although without a message
11 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Although the director's intention was to denounce the culture of cancellation, I honestly did not realize that this was the message. I understood that the film more than conveyed a message, it only presented facts. And I came to the conclusion that the protagonist received what he deserved, he never apologized, because when he tried to do it, it just didn't come out, the best thing he could do at that moment was to think far away for the better and with a cool head evaluate whether to offer a sincere apology or not.

In my opinion, the film had no message other than to inform you of what can happen to you if you become racist, homophobic or discriminatory in general in the public sphere. But I didn't feel sorry to see the protagonist cry at any time, they seemed like silly tears to me. If what the director wanted was for us to pity the protagonist, he didn't change it with me haha. At all times I felt that the best thing the protagonist could do was offer a sincere apology, but he never did so, his tears were like crocodile tears.

I think the film gives you food for thought, but it doesn't tell you exactly where he stands. It only tells you this happens and you evaluate if you think it is correct or not. As I already said, I believe that what happened to the protagonist deserved it, with the exception of a few things such as the exaggeration of some comments that turned to hate or the fact that those who knew what he published also turned their backs on him, but, of course, what could he expect if he surrounded himself with people who are capable of considering this type of publication a game, so well, it was evident that they were never going to add anything to his life. Finally, it would have been good if someone had appeared to help him reflect on what he did because no one had the patience to talk about it, although the protagonist was only willing to talk about it when he was feeling saturated because at the beginning he ignored the situation, so he did not do his part at the beginning for someone to help him reflect. Anyway, the good thing was that in the end he did something sensible: walk away to think clearly.

I give it 7 stars because I believe that it does not convey any message, however the story catches you and leaves you thinking about the subject it presents, whether you are for or against what happens to the protagonist.

An unusual film with a good message
7 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The film mixes genres such as drama, romance and crime, but I would say that it is above all a romance film. I personally didn't like it for 3 reasons.

The first is that the main character was such a jerk: I hate it when in songs or movies someone who is married cheats and doesn't even honestly accept the consequences. The second reason I didn't like the film was another mistake by the main character and it was that he put a lot of the personal in his work, causing the latter to be diluted and only his personal life remained in something he had to be working on. And, well, suppose that could ever happen to someone, if so anyway I expected him to make some mature decision about it, but he ended up getting wrapped up in all the toxic dynamics between him and the other protagonist. Finally, the last reason why I didn't like the film was because the protagonist had mental problems and not the usual ones, because I really felt sorry for what she did at the end of the film, however, at the beginning of the film and during its course before the end, it can be seen that she had other types of mental problems that I could not classify, it seemed to me that it was out of the ordinary since she did not have the typical profile of a battered woman who wants to see her abuser dead, It was different, so much so that at first I thought it was bad, like a serial killer, however if you follow the movie to the end you realize that things are not as you thought at the beginning. Those rare mental problems that I allude to about this character I relate enough to his way of falling in love that in some dialogues he had with the protagonist it can be seen that he was toxic. Well, the movie shows an unusual love, a toxic, complicated, stormy love.

On the other hand, I would venture to say that for those people who like unusual, half-obscure and weird stories, this movie could be very attractive. In fact, I recognize that as a story, without judging the things that I personally do not tolerate, i like that it is a good product, because it tells a story that perhaps exists in life itself although it is not rosy. In addition, the film catches you because it makes you believe something at first that keeps you attentive throughout the duration of the film, so that in the end you know that it was not what you thought. And, finally, as something positive that I take away from the film, personally, is that it does not give you a toxic message, because what starts badly ends badly (and although it could have had a happy ending, that would only be another possible ending, and with a good message that does not nullify the fact that the ending that was presented in the film still conveys a good message) and the same main character, even though he has not been honest about his infidelity, is left without his wife, who more or less I see it less just because the wife no longer stays next to a man who constantly cheats on her.

For all this, taking into account the reasons that made me not like the movie, as well as those that made me like it, I would give it a 10 star, because it kept me attentive all the time to the expectation of what could happen, playing with my mind, the final message does not support toxic love and although it presents a stormy reality that also catches and surprises you (and in my personal case that made me feel emotions, even if they were disapproving of what was happening, it made me feel and I consider them that this is important when one enjoys art, important as long as this experimentation of emotions is generated by a good ethical message of the film, which I think it did have after all), presents an ending that moves you because despite what happens during its course, no one wishes an ending like the one the protagonist had. It is up to each person to see it or not and how they evaluate it.

Rojo (2018)
It's not that good, but it's captivating
21 April 2023
It is a film with a beginning that captivates you and that allows you to remain attentive to the rest of the film even when after the beginning it seems that some scenes are not related, however, as it gets closer to the end, the relationship of everything is understood. Personally, it was difficult for me to understand right away what the objective of placing it in 1975 was, but then I understood that the message of everything was the following: the violence of the dictatorship that had been experienced since 1976 in Argentina was internalized in the Argentine people. Since before the dictatorship itself and the same citizens reproduced it, especially the middle class. Whoever wants to see this film should take this detail into account before seeing it.

Aftersun (II) (2022)
Very good with a very emotional ending
21 April 2023
It is a drama that presents its greatest emotional peak at the end of the feature film. Most of the film is calm, although very bearable and entertaining because the characters have funny and tender moments, but above all this part, which is the longest, is important because it gives you the tools to feel the end more intensely. Its central theme is the father-daughter relationship and depression, but the latter is presented from an unconventional perspective, since it does not present a depressive character with the typical characteristics of the disease, but a character who perfectly camouflages them, which gives us a new vision and understanding of how this disease can affect the people who suffer from it and those around them.

The Fabelmans (2022)
Good and entertaining
21 April 2023
It is a drama that does not have many moments of intense emotions, although it does have it anyway, only to a lesser extent. It is a long film that does not delve much into the central problems that the main family has and that is precisely the heart of the film, perhaps that is why it was not so good: they lengthened it in vain without delving into key problems. Even so, it keeps you attentive throughout the duration, so it does become entertaining. It deals with family issues, specifically the parent-child relationship, the prejudices of a father (and also of a family) about the art career and his preference for the science career, the wear and tear and misunderstanding of a marriage, infidelity, adolescent love affairs (albeit fleetingly) and the vocation for a career in art from a young age that is maintained despite the passage of time.

Threshold (2020)
Interesting and educational
21 April 2023
It is a calm documentary without many emotional peaks, but very educational. From the transgenerational perspective of a grandmother, a mother and a grandson, it teaches you how each one sees life depending on the generation to which they belong. The central theme is the transition of the grandson, since he is a transgender boy and the one who films everything asking himself questions and collecting information from the 3 generations is the mother. The 3 characters are feminists, including the grandmother because she comes from a revolutionary environment despite being from an older generation. It seemed to me that one of the lessons it teaches is to understand the different approaches to a taboo topic such as being transgender: some understand it completely and faster, while others find it more difficult. However, it is appreciated that these different approaches, even though they are not so close to a 100% understanding, are accompanied by love since the people involved are family.

The Whale (2022)
Very good, but there are better
21 April 2023
It was definitely all drama. It deals with issues of obesity, sexual orientation, depression, the mother/father-daughter and adolescent son relationship, the conflictive relationship between religion and the LGBT+ community (although it does not go into much detail about it, it is a transversal theme in the film), the discrepancies that can having a person who belongs to a religious community with the same community (it doesn't go into much depth either, but it is part of one of the secondary characters), the pain for the loss of a partner and for the loss of a father figure, and finally topics like friendship too. Personally, I liked it because it's a drama and although it didn't have many emotional peaks, it turned out to be quite interesting.

Very good, but there are better
21 April 2023
It is a fanciful drama or dramatic fantasy. It touches on topics such as depression, the mother/father-adolescent and adult daughter relationship, and gives a twist to the vision that is usually held of what must be done to defeat evil. It's good, but still, personally, I felt like it could have been better. At times I felt that they exaggerated with fantasy, but I must mention that I don't particularly like movies with a lot of fantasy, I prefer drama and precisely the dramatic overtones were what made me like this movie and rate it with an 8 out of 10. Despite everything, I would recommend seeing it.

An excellent movie, highly recommended
21 April 2023
It is a beautiful drama with funny and tender overtones, but above all it presents the theme of how new cinema is for an Andean community that realizes that no matter how advanced what they see, they cannot understand it because it is not their language. . However, the community asks for stories, stories that speak of their identity and the leading child will be in charge of sending them to them. There is a lot of social criticism in the film that becomes extremely moving, so much so that despite not being a play, the spectators who go to the cinema to see it, at the end of the performance, applaud. Beautiful movie, so highly recommended.
