Full Metal Jacket (1987)
The best vietnam war movie alongside Apocalypse now
Full metal jacket is almost like two completely different movies in one. The first is at the boot camp where we see people being trained to join the soldiery, and the second one takes place during the actual war. Through a series of disturbing and bloody scenes, Stanley Kubrick shows a brutal world of the late 60s, and how military dehumanizes soldiers and turns them into mindless killing machines. The characters are having fun, cracking jokes, showing that even in a place as dangerous as Vietnam, they are still having fun, brutally murdering enemy soldiers. At the end, it's almost as if they realised.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Wonder
A clockwork orange is a disturbing and wonderful movie that has an endearing look at a near-futuristic world of violence and brutality. It has a great idea. A sadistic kid criminal who gets turned into a harmless citizen after being shown a bunch of horrific tapes depicting rape and violence, that he himself used to contribute to. After he gets released, all the people that he assaulted in the past start fighting back. Malcolm McDowell is really good as both an awful, shameless, sadistic vandal, and as a sad, hopeless reject. The film is also gorgious, it has an almost dreamlike quality. Director Stanley Kubrick uses his sets to make the film seem almost as if it's out of this world, with beautiful art direction and cinematography. Brilliant piece of art and one of the best films of the 70s.
Back to the Future (1985)
My Favorite
Back to the future is a very charming and entertaining sci-fi adventure comedy, full of likeable characters and a great concept executed right. A nice time capsule of both the 80s and the 50s. It's a sweet story showing teens romancing in different eras and ways, and it uses it's idea of going back to the past and makes solid jokes. It might not be one of the funniest comedies of all time by any mean, but it's still really enjoyable. It's a perfect mixture of science fiction and comedy making a movie that's silly, yet clever at the same time. I'm sure everybody had seen it already, but if you somehow didn't, do yourself a favour.
