American Sniper (2014)
Xenophobic!
As much as I have enjoyed Eastwood's earlier work, American Sniper I believe is his weakest so far. The story is flawed from the very beginning.
A true story about a Texan wannabe cowboy, Kyle, who after witnessing 9/11 decides to join SEAL and kill bad guys in Iraq! WHAT?!? Iraq which has nothing to do with 9/11? Or did he just assume that since "all Muslims are terrorist" what difference does it make if i kill them in Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya? Well, the buck doesn't stop here - and this is where i am assuming Eastwood took the liberty of giving the sniper competition between kyle and his rival arch enemy the maximum amount of screen time making it almost the main plot. Which does build some amount of tension but soon dissipates within a new york minute with a one-inch-punchy climax.
Cant even begin to talk about kyle's relationship with his wife and children because it is so amateurishly executed unable to fully express his dilemma before and after the war. Cooper did make a genuine effort, his accent being the most convincing.
One Life (2011)
Entertaining... holds your attention throughout!
Watched this documentary at the Mumbai Film Fest. Didn't expect a film on wildlife and especially one that entertains you, makes you laugh, rejoice, wonder and feel what the animals feel. 'One Life' has action, drama, romance, humor, tragedy, gallantry and all the ingredients that goes into making an entertainer that would delight the kids, as well as the adults equally.
The effort into capturing the nitty-gritties of wildlife is awe-inspiring. And, Daniel Craig's narration is music to the rhapsody. This documentary soon could be one of those classics that you might want in your wildlife series collection. This one you shouldn't miss.
A torinói ló (2011)
No Spoilers here... didn't make it to the end of the film
I watched this film during the Mumbai Film Festival and given it a '6' because of the amazing cinematography. But the movie per se is painstakingly slow and disembroiling. It's like watching paint dry or water melt to ice in slow-motion. Of course, some people may find ice melting into water beautiful, but would you watch it again and again and again? This almost silent film is kinda "moving", yes it moves you out of the cinema hall. In fact, it is inspiring too, so much that i had to come online and write a review to warn some of you who do not like superslow drama. The only engaging moment in this film you might enjoy is the cinematography. Clearly, this was'nt for me.
