Soy tu aventura (2003)
Bizarre comedy
This movie was one of the greatest movies in 2003. It doesn't have a very elaborated plot, doesn't have a great production either, but I watched it and I couldn't stop laughing.
The plot tells the story of two brothers who kidnaps Luis Aguilé, a former successful singer, who now makes small tours in towns. They took him during one of his tours and they hide in a small town.
This movies will be loved for die hard fans of absurd movies and TV shows (if you saw programs like "Todo x $2" or "Cha cha cha" - which also featured Capussotto- you'll know what I'm talking about).
There are a lot of bizarre elements, specially in the use of Aguile's songs and in some strange dialogs.
A comedy to see more than once... see it and you won't be able to stop laughing.
The Quick and the Dead (1995)
Raimi shoots again
I've never been a western fan, but this film really got me.
It has a lot of good features: A great casting, good duel scenes and Raimi behind the camera:
The actors play their characters very good, with Stone, Hackman and Crowe in the lead. The fight scenes are great, short but intense at the same time. Sometimes besides you can imagine who's gonna be the winner you can't figure how the fight is going to end. And Raimi proves again to be an excellent director. There are some shots that make you recognize him, and a lot of scenes that will make you say "Wow!!" (Don't forget that hole in the head... the first time I saw the movie, I had to rewind to watch it again!).
If you like westerns, you will probably like this film. If you don't, you may like it too, like I did.
Campfire Tales (1997)
Predictable
I you have some taste or even some knowledge about urban legends, you may figure out almost every plot twist of this film. If you don't know about the legends told in this film, you may figure out something too.
The film tells the story of four teens who had an accident and as they wait for some kind of help to come, they start to telling each other horror tales.
"The hook": Is the story that appears as a prologue. Boring, we've seen this a thousand times, and it's too short to create some kind of tension.
"The campfire": This is the main plot story. I figured out the fate of the kids a couple of stories before the end credits started to roll.
"The honeymoon": This is the first story told by the kids. It starts well, but goes down and down. I don't know why there were some secondary characters that didn't had anything to do with the story, instead of focusing on the main couple.
"People can lick too": Coming back to the "urban legend" thing... you can figure out how is this going to end if you know something about them. It had some moments of true tension, however.
"The locket": A kind of ghost story that seems to be from another movie. This is the best story of all. Good acting, good chemistry between the actors and a great plot twist at the end.
After that, wait to the predictable twist at the end of the main story.
It would been good to add more minutes to the last story (The locket) and making a movie with only that tale.
Road to Perdition (2002)
Disappointed
After liked very much "American Beauty" I had great expectations about this film. Obviously, I didn't expect an American Beauty 2 kind of movie, I like directors who makes different kind of films. But, after watching it, I felt kind of disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I think that Sam Mendes made a good work, but the problem was in the script. It has very good acting, an excellent cinematography and some interesting scenes, but I could figure out most of the scenes before they happen. Even the end (no, I'm not gonna spoil it), a couple of minutes before I thought "Now, this is what is going to happen... blablabla...", and so it was. Surely I'll go to see the next Mendes flick, but when I came to compare between "American..." and "Road to...", the first one takes a lot of advantage.
Evil Dead II (1987)
One of the best horror films
Wow!! I've seen this movie more than once, and I don't get tired. I think this is one of the best horror films I've ever seen. Why? Well, it has suspense, it has gore, it has a crazy directing by Raimi and an excellent acting by Bruce Campbell. Also, there are other things that has nothing to do with horror but are well used. First of all, the humour. It's excellent!! Moviegoers who love to see those 'Scary Movie' flicks, should see this film, and see how a film can take laugh of some horror cliches. In the bad side, I must critic the secondary actors. I didn't care very much about them and their fate... but, this is all about Ash, isn't it? :)
