Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)
BEST MOVIE EVER MADE
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is without doubt the greatest movie of all time. This movie completely changes the game with breathtaking CGI, an unmatchable story and incredible performances.
Andy Serkis delivers an inspirational performance as Caesar (GOAT), the intelligent ape leader, possibly the greatest performance of his career. The main conflict between humans and apes, will take your breath away with its believability and emotional depth. Matt Reeves' direction amplifies the tension, crafting a riveting experience. The cgi in this movie is incredible up there with the best of all time and the motion capture does an incredible job making the ape characters profoundly relatable.
Michael Giacchino's score complements the intensity, making me tear up multiple times. I know I'm in the minority with people saying this can't be the greatest movie of all time because the story wasn't complex enough or emotional enough, however from a pure revolutionary and perhaps scary perspective, this movie may be a prediction of the future and any movie which is able to combine all these aspects is without doubt the perfect movie and greatest of all time. While trilogies such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the original trilogy of Star Wars are both great, the overall consistency and strong connections between each movie, the planet of the Apes trilogy and Franchise in general both have to be considered there respective greatest of all time.
10/10 unbelievable movie, which I would recommend watching for any age.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Perfection
Only the second perfect movie ever made, the other being "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes". Perfect score, perfect pace, perfect acting and perfect plot. There's a reason why this is the top rated movie on the website. From the beginning to the end, the story remained interesting, and I found my attention did not dwindle despite the 2h 22mins runtime. A lot of the characters are either very likeable or very hate-able which is perfect for a movie. Although at face value the comedy in this movie appears absent, I still found myself laughing multiple times.
Although the movie has no real problems, a talking animal comic relief would have made this even better, and the absence of monkeys worried me a bit as I feel we need more representation, however overall 10/10 would recommend, definitely check this out after watching the Planet of the Apes trilogy.
