Must see for people of a certain age
11 July 2023
Do you remember the 1964-65 World's Fair? This very comprehensive documentary is more than mere nostalgia. Sure it evokes many memories and emotions but, it's also a look at a point in our cultural and economic history.

The World's Fair I think truly reflected where we were as a nation, and for better or worse what our values and aspirations are. In turn, the film accurately reflects the experience visitors felt.

Despite having lived through the experience, I learned a lot about the behind the scenes creativity that was involved and how so much of the technology of the exhibit itself gave birth to new forms of entertainment such as Disney World and Epcot. Ironically so many of the "predictions" ofthe future, like flying cars either never transpired or came in totally different forms. ("picture phone on wall of kitchen, no. Skype /zoom on cellphone, yes, 50 yrs later)

The bottom line is a zero....

What a load of gibberish. I can't believe all the Stellar reviews here.

This movie is totally disjointed and unintelligible which is ironic since it's about an autistic accountant who, by the way, seems to slip in and out of autism.

So much wasted talent here and a wasted premise which is held back by a bad script and totally illogical narratives. I wish I could give this more "credit." or points on the "ledger.". If you like random scenes strung together, not knowing what's a flashback and what isn't and a bunch of cliches, than maybe the numbers will add up for you. As far as I'm concerned, time to "close the book" and find a new accountant.

Boring documentary about exciting actor
9 May 2023
How ironic. The directors decided that a bunch of talking heads, albeit famous ones, babbling about the subject is better than actually giving the audience illustrations of the man's work? Peter this, Peter that. Let's see him. Just a sprinkling of clips from a few films, a few audio and videos of O'toole being interviewed.

I don't think I can get through this, as much as I admire actors like Hopkins, Jacobi, Sian Philips etc. I recommend just watching Lawrence, Ruling Class, My Favorite Year etc. Do a YouTube search for interviews with the subject, Google articles. You'll learn more and be more entertained.

Season 4. Dump it into the Bay
4 April 2023
I found Seasons 1&2 interesting and somewhat suspenseful with Morven Christie in the lead. Marsha Thomson somehow managed to capture my attention in #3. BUT Season 4? Absolutely dreadful.

I don't mind a "slow burn" plot but here there's no burn at all, save for the deadly house fire that starts the series. Marcia Thompson speaks in a soft monotone, devoid of emotions. Nothing happens to shed light on the "whodunnit" aspect. We have characters popping up out of nowhere with nothing to do with the plot. Like the totally wasted Clare Goose as, well, I think someone's ex wife and child's mother. Worst of all, just about everyone is a dreary dysfunctional being, even the kids. So, basically there's nothing to care about. I'm not going to give any "spoilers" because I don't think I'm getting the ending. I'm going to sail my boat out of this Bay to more interesting waters.

I can't believe I watched all 3 hours off this
29 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The acting especially Klaus Maria Brandauer was fine. The concept was interesting but extremely poor.

The "catch" is that episode 1 was the cops perspective, episode 2, the defense attorney's. But most of episode 2 was the exact same footage from episode 1. Duh? I've read dozens of books with multiple perspectives, they don't just rehash the same exact text do they?

Then, 2 make matters worse, the 3 hours boil down to a lecture about police abusing the suspect and system, which we are reminded, was designed to prevent the abuse of the Nazi system.. But we are left without a solution to the actual crime! Don't ask me to invest 3 hours of my time for some intellectual drivel without satisfying my need to know what actually happened to the poor kidnapped little girl! How did the suspect know her location? Their is no suggestion that the info was planted in his brain by the cops. Was the suspect part of some plot? Were the parents involved? Who knows? Bad enough to sit thru 90 minutes of this, but 180? (actually I fast forwarded thru a lot of the repeated footage)

Warning: Spoilers
With a great producer andntop notch star, James Nesbitt, what could go wrong?

Well, I put spoiler alert on even though it comes mid way in confusing fashion :

Our "flawed hero", and star is really an amoral vicious killer. Sorry. Not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of vigilante cops in cinema and TV. If they have any kind of moral code. Even psycho Dexter Morgan who tied up and gutted his victims was ok, his victims were serial killers, too. But this cop is just an evil man pursuing his own agenda and innocent witnesses get caught up.

I got thru season 1 primarily because I was hoping Nesbitt really was ok ir I just misunderstood. No. Hasta la Vista baby.
