Sweet Magnolias (2020)
Not too bad, actually!
Yes, it's definitely has a Hallmark, Lifetime movie feel. Probably can be featured on The Dove channel with the goody two shoe, close knit, Christian based type of community. The actors do grow on you, though. It's the type of film you have to stick to and watch. Season one started slow because of the introduction of the characters. But usually if a film really sucks and doesn't reach my attention after 20 minutes, then I turn off immediately! It does get better! And two words on why I'm supporting this film. Heather Headley! Fierce! Beautiful! Multi-talented! I wish she sung more in the film, but I know they're focusing on her acting talent. The sisterhood of Helen, Maddie and Dana Sue is charming. The southern accents on some of the actors are horrific! But the male eye candy boost my score a couple more stars! Overall, the film is actually NOT TOO BAD IMO.
Harlem (2021)
Great Potential!
I'm going against the grain on this one. If a series don't catch my attention in 25 mins, I usually stop watching. PERIOD! But Harlem was very entertaining to me. Similar to SATC and Insecure with an LGTBQ+ spin. I enjoyed all of the characters, especially Angie! She was so fun to watch. Shoniqua Shandai did her thing! She definitely gave me the best laughs! And shoutout to her BEAUTIFUL hair! I loved it! The energy the show gives was breathtaking. I didn't find it stereotypical at all. Just a group of beautiful black women finding their own paths in life with support from each other. Love Whoopi and Jasmine Guy in this, too. Both Seasons were great to watch. I'm rooting for season 3, if they give it a chance.
