Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
A Good Attempt from Bollywood
Here is my honest and short review of Brahmastra.
During the initial launch of its trailer I had negative perception about Brahmastra, which reminded me of several fantasized mobile games and animated series. I was sceptical about its box office success.
On actually watching the movie, everything changed and found that this movie actually has a heart, specially the romantic chemistry/scenes between Ranbir-Alia and mystery related to Shiva's parents. Ultimately, it raises a curiosity to wait and watch for what happens in Part Two - Dev.
Not that the VFX applied in Brahmastra are groundbreaking or masterpiece like those in Hollywood's Marvel CU, DC series, Harry Potter fantasy movies etc, but at least they are admirable to watch in a Bollywood movie. VFX graphics will turn into a regular feature in the future Bollywood movies if Brahmastra becomes a hit and set a trend.
Loved👍
- Romantic scenes between Ranbir-Alia
- Extended cameo role of SRK
- Action and chasing sequences
- Antagonistic role of Mouni Roy
Hated 👎
- Unnecessary lengthy climax
- Overall length of the movie
- Underwritten role of Nagarjuna Akkineni.
Cuttputlli (2022)
Bollywood's own adapted version of Ratsasan in a different location
I wonder and still wonder why on earth Bollywood producers and filmmakers are losing originality and always depend on scripts from other industries' movies. Most of the recently released movies are either partially or fully remade or directly copied from old movies.
Cuttputlli is one such movie which is a Bollywood baked version of 2018's Tamil thriller Ratsasan, starring Akshay Kumar, Rakul Preet Singh, Chandrachud Singh and Hrishita Bhatt in pivotal roles. Instead of Chennai from the original, or Mumbai, the location selected for the story is Koushali in Himachal Pradesh.
It's about a serial killer who traps female school students, abducts and kills them with a motive of revenge related to the past. After every murder, the killer leaves a repeated pattern in a head of a doll.
Akshay plays the role of newly joined sub-inspector and investigates the case to find out this mysterious serial killer. Hrishita and Chandrachud play as his sister and brother-in-law respectively, while Rakul plays a school teacher and his love interest.
Even at 55 Akshay attempts his best to look 30 years younger with a suitable role of a newly joined sub-inspector. Ironically, at few scenes, his white beards seem to be visible in close shots alongwith several wrinkles on the face.
Overall, Cuttputlli is a moderately well directed psycological thriller which has been adapted in Bollywood's old formulaic style to please its audiences.
It wont be much interesting to those who have already watched the original Tamil version, because it is predictable and similar in frame to frame.
Samaritan (2022)
Stallone is still energetic and powerful as Samaritan at 76
It's really good to see Sylvester Stallone back on screen after a few years gap. Perhaps, he is still the fittest senior most actors of Hollywood even at 76.
Samaritan is all about a troublesome kid who gets mostly teased and beaten up by some street boys, messes up around with people and knows too much about the secrets of the Samaritan. Aged and oldie Joe Smith lives a normal life trying to stay out of troubles until he meets the kid, and is soon revealed to be the old and undead Samaritan, the twin brother of evil Nemesis.
Emotional bonding between the kid and the old Samaritan flows in a slow pace in the first half, however it gets gritty only when the crime goons learn about the existence of Samaritan. They plan to destroy the city and create chaos among the rebellious middle class people.
Stallone looks still afresh and confident at 76 and that's the best part of the movie. His hardcore fans are surely going to enjoy it. The 13 year old kid role of Javon Walton is convincing and cheerful but also annoying whenever he asks questions to Joe out of his curiosity. Johanne Philip's role of antagonists Cyrusn is nothing new than a typical villain who wishes to create ruckus all around.
The only down part is the story development. It still lacks the strength to fully captivate the fans who love watching Superhero movies. It is nowhere near to all those recent superhero movies released in the last 15 years.
If we are going to see a sequel anywhere in the future, I hope it would be with a better script and better casting.
Liger (2022)
Liger is First Indian action movie based on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), also featuring former boxer Mike Tyson
I bet, if you enjoy watching hardcore masala action movies, you are gonna like Liger for sure. You won't be disappointed at all. Liger is a collaboration of Dharma Productions and Tollywood's Puri Connects production, but mostly influenced by South Indian movie styles, this is why it has so many hardcore fights and actions right from start to end which keeps pumping the blood with fun and thrill.
Directed by Puri Jagannath, the same who also directed a blockbuster action flick Pokiri in 2006 starring Mahesh Babu, which was later remade as Wanted in Bollywood in 2009.
Liger, the titular role played by Vijay Deverakonda, is an aspirant martial artist who wants to achieve world MMA championship title, which was left incomplete by his father. He joins in a free training centre run by Ronit Roy for professional training.
In the beginning, he gets ragged by other fellow students/trainees but slowly he becomes everyone's choice due to his impressive fighting skill. He also meets a cute and lovely social media influential girl Ananya Pandey, who easily falls for him.
If I'm not wrong, Liger is the first Indian movie which is based on MMA which also features real life globally famous boxer Mike Tyson. Earlier Tyson appeared in cameo role as himself in Sunny Deol-Shahid Kapoor starrer Fool N Final in 2007. He also appeared in a popular Chinese movie Ip Man 3 as opponent of Donnie Yen.
Ramya Krishnan and Ronit Roy well justified their respective roles of Vijay's mother and a his MMA trainer (and fighter).
The only downside is childish and immature character role written for Ananya Pandey. From start her role as a social media influencer is so ridiculous at most times.
Overall Liger is a paisa wasool masala action entertainer with high dose of action stunts by Vijay Deverakonda.
Watch it in cinemas, you won't regret👌👍
Sniper: Rogue Mission (2022)
Most ridiculous installment in the whole Sniper franchise, since 1993
After watching all 9 installments of Sniper franchise (including this one) since the original Sniper released in 1993, I hate to say this is the most ridiculous and worst one. Thumbs down.
I wonder how could they end up reaching to this level of low quality with cheap production values, poor script, poor direction, poor casting, poor acting & overall poor editing. Everything is so terrible in this 9th installment.
It doesn't deserve even one single star rating actually, due to everything is very bad. In previous installments, presence of Tom Berenger somehow managed to create suspense and excitement, but this one is the most horrible in every aspect.
I wish, if sanity remains, producers stop further production of future sequels, for the betterment of the whole Sniper franchise.
Beast (2022)
Beast is about how illegal poachers provoke animals for violence
If you like wildlife adventure-thriller films featuring humans and animals, this one is right for you. Otherwise, you can give it a miss.
Beast depicts the story of a father who takes his 2 daughters on a trip to South Africa, where during a wildlife tour they come across a violent and aggressive lion which strives to ambush them. It viciously bits his biologist friend's leg, causing him massive injury.
After watching the film, Beast makes us to think on how illegal poachers provoke wild animals to be violent against humans, disrupting the ecological balance between the two distinct creatures - humans and animals.
Secret Headquarters (2022)
You need a childish brain to enjoy it
Secret Headquarters is somewhat of a reminder of the Spy Kids franchise's secret gadgets and devices and how kids use them against evil forces. Owen Wilson's role, despite being the primary source of all super-powered gadgets and devices, has been adapted for lesser than half the entire duration.
This movie is aimed strictly at children, so to get the most out of it, you have to adapt with a child's mind. Otherwise, you may ignore it.
Visual effects, direction, casting, etc. Were thoroughly worked out according to the script and story. Had this script been written for adults rather than children, it would have attracted a wider audience.
