Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance! (2022)
Actually good
My sisters watch a lot of crappy shows (Project MC2, The Next Step, Fuller House to name a few). This show, however, is one that I can actually sit down and watch with them without feeling like I have to bleach my eyes afterward.
The gymnastics is neat.
The acting, overall, is pretty decent. I only cringed about once or twice.
The dialogue isn't awful.
Has a fair bit of humorous moments.
Characters are pretty good (my favourite being Tess, my least favourite being Maya).
Only thing I really hate is the romance-y thing between Kyra and that guy, but I dislike romance in general, so I didn't deduct any points for that.
Overall, this show gets 7.5/10 for not making me want to hit my head repeatedly with a sledgehammer to ease the pain, like so many other shows my sisters like, good job.
Minecraft: Story Mode - Season 2 (2017)
Sadly underrated - and better than the first season
Now I really like Season 1, but I adore Season 2. The acting is still good, the music is fantastic (better than in Season 1), I find the characters more interesting, character development is great, Jesse didn't really have an arc in the first season, but he (she) does in the second season, learning that he doesn't always have to be the leader of everything*.
Speaking of character development - these new characters in Season 2 have more arc than the characters in Season 1 did - all the main supporting characters (except Petra and Ivor) only had development in the first half of the season. Granted, two of them weren't in the second half much, but Lukas was.
Now there's Season 2. There's what I said about Jesse earlier, I like how Jack changed as a character (honestly Jack is an underrated character imo), Radar had good arc, I really appreciate how Stella becoming a better person is only determinant depending on how you treat her, and of course there's Petra. (Alright, I'm just gonna say it. Petra's the most well developed character in the game.)
Not to mention the villain, the Admin aka Romeo. Unpopular opinion: he's better than the Witherstorm. The Witherstorm was very intimidating but had no personality, which Romeo had heaps of.
Plus: there's no bad language in the game. Sure, they say "freaking" a couple of times, but that's it.
So yeah, that's why I think Season 2 is better than Season 1. The characters are more interesting, the writing is better, the protagonist is better, the villain is cooler, it's more kid-friendly, and it's overall more fun to play. This game gets a 9.5/10 for being a MASSIVE improvement.
*Depending in which ending you choose.
Minecraft: Story Mode - A Telltale Games Series (2015)
Decent!
Minecraft Story Mode. A spinoff game made by Telltale. I haven't played another Telltale game before, but I reckon this one is pretty good.
- Sure, the story is simple, but it gives the ability for the characters to develop (more on that later)
- Voice acting is good
- Music is great (if you're a MCSM hater, you can say a lot of things about the game, but you can't say the music's bad!)
- Background designs are beautiful
- The animation isn't good, it's really glitchy, but it's always fun to laugh at some dude's arms spazzing out.
- I don't think the writing is BAD, just FLAWED, two different things, it's pretty decent overall, but like most other things on this list, it gets better in S2.
- The gameplay is lacking, but I don't really care about how good the gameplay is; the other factors I mentioned keep it interesting enough on its own.
- The characters. I said earlier, the plot is simple, to focus on the character developments. And they are great. I mean, Jesse the protagonist doesn't really have development, and most of the others stop after Ep4 (Lukas; Olivia; Axel, granted, Olivia and Axel aren't in most of the second half of the season, but Lukas and is). Petra and Ivor, however, do have arc throughout the whole season.
Of course, this game is far from perfect, and is clearly targeted towards the kids demographic, but as a teenager I find it entertaining too. 7.5/10 from me, for good characters, voice acting, music, slightly flawed but decent writing and animation, and lacking gameplay.
