Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023)
Entertaining over the top spy flic
It is quite over the top, everybody is hamming it up real nicely and it is a good funny watch.
The plot is not much to write home about but hey who cares about a plot in a movie like this.
Good fun for a Friday night without any pretense.
Bit of a mix between Mission impossible, James Bond with a good sprinkle of the man from U. N. C. L. E.
The Statham fans were certainly not forgotten since there is plenty of action lots of gadgets and explosions to sate everybody.
The movie star angle worked out surprisingly well and the 5 main players have a good chemistry going.
Might become a series if it catches on.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Saved by a half decent ending
What a waste of a movie, puerile slapstick humor for and hour, interspaced with some decent scenes.
Even the star studded cast can't save this terrible script.
The only saving grace is the end battle with Gorr and the kids.
If I want to see a slapstick I turn on Laurel and Hardy , not this.
Whomever came up with this ought to be banned from ever writing a storyline for the MCU again.
Goofiness is fine, this over the top stupid humor and a script that has no saving grace whatsoever is a disgrace for the Thor franchise.
And the end scene with Hercules must be the worst punchline ever, please save us from a follow up with this joke.
The Northman (2022)
Shakespearian wannabee set in Norway
Too stilted dialogue, no drama, just some cutouts regurgitating lines.
There is no tension , nothing really happens no reasons are given for actions performed.
Could have been so much more but falls flat on its face.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Stop butchering a story
First the good things
Filming was great, typecasting of the actors a bit hit and miss but overall not bad, scenery and environment pretty much spot on ( with the exception of the blight).
Now for the bad.
I get that you truncate scenes and that for storyline purposes you may alter some things because it translates better to the screen but what was done here was a hatchet job.
Perrin is not a married slow witted blacksmith peacenik, he was an unmarried thoughtful blacksmith apprentice who had no compunctions burying a battle axe in a person, until he got sick of killing.
Rhand apparently has no need to learn how to channel, it will come automatically if he feels threatened (give me a break) and carries a sword around for cutting his bread or something, I don't know, but the whole swordplay and learning how to become a master swordsman never plays a role here.
Perrin who is basically a wolf in human form gets maybe 5 minutes to display this and most of that is showing some yellow eyes.
The women are basically the heroes here, long live diversity.
Episode 8 , the seasons end is a disaster from beginning to end, Lolial dies, Rhand has a nice conversation with the Dark One, Moirraine gets stilled and the horn of valere was apparently stuck under a throne in Shienar.
If you want to put this epic masterpiece on screen shorten some scenes, explain some stuff in short flashbacks but please do not do this kind of a hatchet job where the whole concept of the books is lost.
Legends of Tomorrow: Fellowship of the Spear (2017)
One of the worst ideas used here
The episode in its entirety was very well set to the time period but goes gravely amiss in the resolution of the problem.
The "map" of the blood came from a Knight now dead a 1000 years. So that blood has been in that same spot for 1000 years , why the heck would you go out there in the middle of a bloody battle to retrieve it whilst you can time travel and visit that same area anywhere in history for the last 1000 years and pick a nice day for a stroll.
Usually the time travel is used rather well as a plot device, just not this time.
