Clockwork Orange County (2012)
History
We invented you! I was there. This is the definitive SoCal Punk documentary. Where slamming aka moshing started. I'm in the TSOL footage. They could have omitted "Honk's" input because he was the cause of it going downhill. He wasn't even from the west coast. It's great to see my friends Arab, Jim Dekker, Jack and others tell their stories. This was when the scene was real and vibrant. I saw this in HB at the Surf Theatre when it came out as Battle Of The Cuckoos Nest with my bandmate Warren of The Vandals. Stevo from the original and better version of the Vandals was there. Warren said that Jensen stepped on his head at their show the previous weekend. He should have kept stepping. Anyway, watch it and learn something.
The Sandman (2022)
Pass
You know a show is so bad when even the trailers/writing insults you. I don't know who the writers are trying to target but it's not for those with no patience for stupidity.
Prey (2022)
A solid 7
1. Kudos for large Native cast
2. Some historical discrepancies but minor
3. As a stand-alone it's very entertaining
4. The high raters and the nay sayers are both wrong. It's a good stand alone movie.
Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (2021)
Uplifting
One if the best documentaries I've ever seen. All the acts are at the top of their game. Seeing the smiles in the crowds and the people and children dancing was totally uplifting. A feel good movie with a poignant message at the end. It's a shame it took 50yrs for it to be released. Big kudos to Questlove who did a brilliant job on this.
Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector: God Complex (2020)
Worse or worst?
Did anyone catch that? He said "what's worst?" cc had it correct "what's worse?" It's simple mistakes like this, not caught in editing that make me not want to watch this.
The acting is mediocre at best. The script is definitely at grade school level.
I'll give one more episode a chance but not sure if this adaptation is worth investing a whole season in.
Messiah (2020)
All You Need To Know
Is that he said "I Am The Word" whether he is the lion or the lamb is up to you to choose. If you have faith and believe in Judeo-Christian ideology. Jabril may also be the real Messiah and Al-Mesir may be the Anti-Christ or Lion as he said he shall return as. Here's something for you to check though: Google Osama Bin Laden & Shroud Of Turin and click the first link that comes up. It should be an animated gif of the two superimposed. Then tell me that you have no faith. Yes, this is a fictional show. Pat attn to the poppy feild in the end. If you want to research that further look up psychedelics and religion. Then look inside your heart. Look in the mirror. Or just smile and pat your dog on the head. It makes no difference.
Ad Astra (2019)
Ignore The Low Ratings
I'm not sure of the age or maturity level of those giving this adventure a low rating. One reviewer described those as such as morons.
First off, this is a slow burning yet engaging endeavor. Those that have compared it to 2001 and Apocalypse Now and Blade Runner are not far off.
This is a movie about abandonment and atonement. The age old query if sons really do inherit the sins of their fathers. If you're looking for another Star Wars epic or an action packed thriller this movie is not for you
I personally research the movies I watch. I rarely go in blindly. Yes, there are scientific discrepancies here but that is not the point of this film. If you like thoughtful, classic Greek-like storytelling then you're in for a treat. Not to say the visuals aren't stunning if realistic.
This is, as another reviewer said, an art house film. Like Tarkovsky's Solaris or even similar to a Kubrick film.
If you want Hollywood, then look away. Find some Adam Sandler movie to occupy your mind.
If you want classic cinema then give this one a try. I guarantee, you won't be as disappointed as the naysayers protest.
Mr. Robot: 408 Request Timeout (2019)
Brilliant
This episode hit hard in a very personal way. Not only is Elliot a survivor he's also a warrior of epic proportions. I thought everything was paced perfectly. The entire team really deserves a win on this one. And damn if I didn't shout out loud that Janice got killed, her character was so repugnant I almost couldn't watch it because of her. To see her go down was pure satisfaction.
The Handmaid's Tale: Liars (2019)
To the dope who rated this with 1 star:
You spelled dumb and dumber wrong. This episode was amazing.
Santa Clarita Diet: More of a Cat Person (2019)
Hilarious quote
(Eric taping "new" shoes)
Eric: I feel like I'm going to school today, but my feet are in court defending the Rosenburgs.
