Dot (2002)
Must See
A great movie in the spirit of Waiting of Gufman or Best in Show. If you worked in or near the net during the boom, this is a must see, but even more than that, if you are currently involved in ANY way with computers or IT, this could be considered a training film. The guy who plays the IT director of this imaginary start up is brilliant and really hits the nail on the head poking fun at both IT types, and the position that IT guys are put in by insane marketing and sales people. The commentary tracks on the DVD explain that much of the movie was improvised. Almost impossible to tell that it was done with so little money.
Spinal Tap for the Dot.com era! This will be a classic.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Best Rental this Year
I am a regular member of NetFlix and put this movie in my queue after the academy awards. It might be one of the best movies I have seen since Memento and may wind up being one of my top 10 movies.
The dialogue is well paced and the subtitles were a breeze to follow. Audrey Tautou is an absolute joy to watch. The story is great as well.
It has a feel like High Fidelity.
I would recommend it to anyone.
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Must See
This is a must see for any Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall, or David Carpenter fan.
DVD watchers make sure to listen to the director commentary. It is basically Russell and Carpenter sitting around smoking and drinking beers while they watch the movie. Worthy of a rental just for that track!
