Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022)
An ok movie with some great Despicable Me References
The movie was ok. There were a lot of pacing issues and plot holes. I just don't understand when the Despicable Me franchise used magic, it didn't feel like Minions or Despicable Me to me. The franchise is supposed to have crazy, out of this world tech. It's felt like they were doing a minions rendition of Shang-Chi for part of the movie. The villainous six definitely felt like Minions though. Their were some awesome callbacks. They went back to the Bank Of Evil first seen in Despicable Me (2010). We also see the bank manager and he mentioned vector. We see one of the Villainous six members has the crocodile couch that Gru has in the Despicable Me movies. The post credit scene was awesome as well because it shows Gru flying his ship from the Despicable Me movies. Besides those things the movie was not the best. 6/10.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
This film is extremely upsetting for fans of Luke Skywalker
We all know Luke. He is the heroic Jedi Knight who turned Darth Vader to the light and destroyed the Death Star. In fact, some of us may have looked up to him at some point in our lives. When we feel down, he gives us hope. When we feel like we can't win and are defeated we remember Luke destroying the Death Star when the chances we near impossible. We remember the wise Luke from Return of the Jedi, the Jedi Master. The son of Vader who is supposed to train the next generation of Jedi. I'd love to so say The Last Jedi continues his story amazingly, but unfortunately no. It kills it all. They made Luke a grumpy old man on an island that almost killed his nephew in his sleep in fear of him turning to the dark side. That sounds an awful lot like Palpatine killing Darth Plagueis doesn't it? You have to think, Luke isn't palpatine. Luke isn't pure evil. He is quite the opposite of that. It all comes down to Rian Johnson not understanding the Skywalker Legacy. It was a poor choice to hire Rian for The Last Jedi as it did cause many issues. It was revealed that Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill had repeatedly asked Rian to think about the fans. Selfishly Rian said that it was his movie and story, not the fans'. However, his movie was not the right story at all, and he clearly didn't understand. Back to Luke's many problems, Luke then pouts on an island saying, "It's time for the Jedi to end." When literally all the way through the original trilogy he was trying to restore the Jedi Order and turn his father to the light side. It completely goes against everything he stands for. Now people might say,"well how would you feel about causing the deaths of hundreds of people?" Of course you would feel terrible, but you have to remember it's Luke Skywalker. If Leia, his sister, needed him he would almost immediately help her. She didn't even blame him for Ben's fall to the dark either! I could talk way more about the negatives, but their are some positives. The visual effects are the best out of any Star Wars film, the praetorian guard fight was cool, and the props were very well made. However the negatives clearly outweigh the positives. The humor is terrible as well and that is not how you use humor in Star Wars. Anyways, that's my review. If you like the movie then Great! But don't be toxic about it please. We all have different opinions. Same goes to people who disliked the movie like myself.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
The best movie of all time.
It has excellent pacing, visual effects, character development, story evolution, acting, and choreography. Hayden Christensen's acting in this film os some of the best I have ever seen. The emotional final duel is amazing and always gets to you. You can almost see this downhill progression of Anakin's trust in the Jedi. That is always really cool to see play out on screen. The soundtrack is incredible, John Williams really did extra amazing this time. George Lucas' writing is as amazing, the dialogue, climax, and emotions of the characters were made so well. At the end of the film when Anakin gets put into Vader's armor for the first time is one of my favorite moments in cinema history. He then learns he was a pawn of Palpatine's game the whole time. It's just a perfect scene. From "hello there" to "I have the high ground" the countless amounts of iconic quotes are unmatched. Thanks George, Rick McCallum, Hayden Christiansen, Nick Gillard, and everyone else who made this spectacular film. May the force be with you, always.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
An extremely underrated film
The Phantom Menace was made near perfection in my opinion. The only reason it's not a 10 is because it's quite slow in the middle of the film. However, they had to do this to develop the characters of Qui-Gon, Padme, and Anakin. The acting was perfect. The story is beautiful and the deeper understanding of the film is quite unknown. I do understand George Lucas' philosophy and type of story telling so it is easier for me to understand. It sets up a whole new era of Star Wars so you have to expect it to be a little slow. The choreography of the duels is amazing! If you think there are moments that copy the OT, George Lucas said this, "it's like poetry, it rhymes."
So haters can hate but it's not a bad movie when you truly understand cinema from George Lucas' perspective.
The Dark Knight (2008)
A near-perfect film
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It contains some of the best acting in film. I know you've heard it a million times but heath ledger's Joker is spectacular. I think that Aaron Eckhart and Christian Bale steal the show! They are awesome! It is written and directed perfectly! However, the visual effects are mid.
