Ponniyin Selvan: Part One (2022)
Nice Adaptation of the Novel, but as Movie Sucks Big Time
As a great fan of Mani Ratnam sir, he has done great job in bringing the novel to movie. Only and only person could do that job. 10/10 for that.
But rest everything is boring, bland, lacklustre. High disspointed a a fan of Mani Ratnam sir.
Expected great score from AR Rahman, but he spoiled both Backgroud score and Songs big time.
VFX is ok but not as epected given huge buget.
Karthi and Vikram sir did great job, but the screenplay spoiled their strenghts.
Confusing Narration, Lagging and unarticulative screenplay.
May be Mani Ratnam, please take rest sir. Given his health condition and out of form performances in recent times, there is no surprise. Would have given better try. Miserably failed to bring back Old Mani Ratnam sir (ah Dil Se is mere memory).
Hope PS 2 is directed by some other director. Take a bow Mani sir. But better take rest after this film.
Cobra (2022)
Confusing, Convoluted, Long and Boring!
Cobra being too ambitious is both a boon as well as bane. The ambitiousness shows off in the film's attempt to push the scale in terms of grandeur, which is visible in most of the first half. It is also visible in the writing, especially when the film uses theories from mathematics to make the crimes very interesting. Unfortunately, the stretches of brilliance are short-lived as the film does get predictable towards the end. There are instances where the film tries too hard to look ambitious, and this is also one of the reasons why the narrative after a plot twist never holds up.
The film definitely needed better casting. Apart from Vikram, who shines in yet another hand-picked, the rest of the support cast barely makes any impact. Roshan Mathew, who is generally effortless and quite convincing so far in his career, hams it up big time in a largely annoying negative role. It's a poorly written character that turns irksome after a point.
