Captain Fantastic (2016)
who was the HERO of the film?
To me the HERO was the middle child boy... the only TRUE rebel in the whole brood. he was not the smartest, but he had one thing all the others did not have... he was privy to some TRUTH.....he over heard a conversation that was had. u can see his rebellion when they start to play guitars in the beginning of the film at the camp fire.. and he decides to "beat his own drum beat"... and every one else follows.... and thus he also is the one that saves the family....
not by his own choice mind you... but by his REBELLION against his fathers teachings.... now the father is not a bad guy.... he is just raising his kids to think for themselves...and choose their own path... but not without bias...
to me this film was more about the kids than anything else.... even the oldest son who is supposed to be a man.. breaks down and cries to his DAD that he does not want to lose him, and get arrested.... yet the middle child is the one that defies his father, and sneaks out to stay with the grand parents... he even rebels against Chomsky day!!!
i rated it what i did.. because even though i can see this dynamic.. it was placed as second to all the propaganda... all the weird suites and clothes... all the weird hatred for self.... i think the most immature was the Father.... but i digress now...
not a bad film but not outstanding..... just average...
Flypaper (2011)
thank Goodness for the internet
its a shame that gems like this are not given any promotion, and sent straight to DVD. if it weren't for the internet and services like netflix or which ever medium chosen to find movies i would have missed out on a lot of great entertainment. and that is exactly what this movie does, it entertains.
this movie was hilarious. the dialog was great, and the silly moments just pulled me into the movie even more. there were even some "holy carp" moments where i had to ask myself while laughing... did that just happen?. its like a murder mystery. like the game "who dun it" with guns and explosions, silly characters, and plot twists. all i can say is it was a fun ride.
i thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and am planning on buying it to watch with friends, family, whoever.
The Big Year (2011)
blame marketing i guess..
i would categorize this movie as eclectic rather than comedy. there are a few "light" moments that i guess could be interpreted as funny or comedy, but i interpreted it as just clever moments. they have to market this movie as a comedy because it has 3 "comedy" stars, big ones at that. they are known for the funny to slapstick whoo haaas. so the marketing department did what they did and ran with it to make the movie money.
now..... I've learned to not take whats on the cover of "products" as the one and only truth. u know that cereal u buy isn't the best tasting because it says so on the box, and that isn't the best most trusted aspirin u just ingested because it says so on the label. its called marketing people, and its sole purpose is to sell sell sell.
so even though in the first 20 to 30 minutes of the movie i "knew" that this wasn't what i expected it to be, i dropped all notions and just went with it and took it for what it was. and what it is, is a great all around movie. i enjoyed the acting between the 3 co-stars, the story even though its not anything new, and just let the movie be what it is.
i gave it an honest 7. it kept me engaged and entertained.
