Sinister (2012)
What a letdown
1. Seems the family never uses lights inside house and is always dark
2. Wife and kids seem to sleep through all the loud noises
3. Dead kids makeup was hilariously bad and reminded me of Halloween
4. First half seemed realistic and serial killer vibe then turned to cliche supernatural and unreliable narrator who is drinking and going crazy
5. Too many cheap jumpscares where things go dead silent then loud sound effects.
6. End was horrible where kids were revealed to be killer which professor hinted at earlier
Overall was a waste of time . Had heard good things but didn't live up to hype ....
Babylon (2022)
Not perfect but wow
So glad I decided to ignore the lukewarm feedback and watched this movie. I loved his first two films and was looking forward to this project but the trailer did turn me off. The movie is not perfect but it almost earns its 3 hour runtime. I saw avatar 2 a week back which is almost just as long and felt way more bored there because even though visuals are great everything else was flat. Not here.
The movie was so chaotic and honest and truly went all the way there and didn't hold back. Music , cinematography, acting direction set design production costumes all were great. The ending was really moving and reaffirming and I've loved all his movie endings.
I'm so glad we have this original work that dares to go places where others won't.
X (2022)
What a dissapointment
Pros - few scenes were really creepy and scary
Cons - where to start, story was so predictable, having old couple as villans was not believable, killing off characters one by one is so cliche, story so simple anyone could've written it, ugly old couple having sex randomly was weird, the old lady wants sex buthusband cant because heart probablems and she was beautiful when young and now ugly so she kills people very bizarre plot, two song numbers came out of nowhere and didn't work, the violence was A bit much at times and didn't seem to serve purpose, the setup was bland and uneventful . Very forgetful movie.there was background commentary with loose values and strict values along with religous undertones and that also didn't really work.
Barbarian (2022)
Not worth the hype
Was a letdown. Alot of things were frustrating and didn't make sense. Movie was little scary and little funny but wasn't great at anything. Rundown neighborhood was off and how all these people were staying there. Justin has gun but fumbled it in key parts twice and once shot wrong person when he can clearly see with light. Bill character was wasted and killed off in 20 minutes. Police once didn't come because No one there and second time didn't take person serious and just drove off. This story was too brief and didn't really say much. Wasn't the worst movie but was waste of a trip to theater.
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
Well worth the visit to theaters
Pros: music, cinematography, balu, rupa, mother and child actors, and most of amirs acting, some very powerful and moving scenes.
Cons: amirs acting in mid life sequence was over the top many times. It worked in comedic sense but not others. Some story lines were far fetching such as Mohammed character, story and scenes for most part were too similar.
It's not definitely not a perfect films but it's also not a 1. I definitely appreciate the effort and could see the love and heart put in by everybody.
Nope (2022)
Yup its a nope for me
Pros - the cinematography was great, there were few shots that were truly remarkable, the ufo/monster was truly captivating for first half, definitely some complex themes which may take multiple viewings to dissect
Cons - daniels acting abilities were wasted because he played a quiet part and we didn't get to see him shine, the alien looking girl with face cover was in trailer and they just showed her in movie 2 seconds so zero impact, one second movie is scary and awe inspiring and next second they make a joke so it throws viewer off and tone kept changing, the aliens in stable was scariest or unique part and turned out it was just kids in costume. They lost me last third when they showed the monster alot more and came up with rules how if u don't look up it won't eat you, what it's like for people who are sucked in, what is its motive etc. Basically in end it turned into a generic monster movie and that was a total letdown. And when Keke used the big balloon to take her Oprah picture and kill the monster, I was really disappointed. Also the monster design was interesting when it opened up. Didn't look like a creature but rather bed sheets
For me I love how Jordan has his own style and voice but with progression his films are getting worse which is a let down.
The Black Phone (2021)
What a letdown
Movie was definitely not a horror and two scary parts were jumpscares which are the laziest and worst. Ethan Hawke was not scary or intimidating so much even the kid was not scared of him. Alot of dialog on phone and behind mask was muffled so was difficult to understand. Movie had no twist and a lot of linear plot but didn't care and just wanted to be over. Slowest 1 hr 40 minutes of my life. All kids were violent and brutally fighting each other for some reason. The room had bunch of rugs folded in place that kid used to runaway and killers brother lived in same house with him but didn't know there are kids locked in basement so totally makes zero sense.
Verdens verste menneske (2021)
Did not work for me
Had high hopes since people saying best film of the year. It was usual coming of age story albeit with a bit more serious tone. There were few places where I chuckled but very few and far in-between. And as title suggested this was not a pleasant person so was tough to care for her while she was confused and using people around her for her own benefits. Last thirty minutes I kept checking to see when it will be over. Girls acting was good but story and characters didn't affect on many ways. There were few scenes where you could tell they were trying to affect you or move you but fell flat on me.
