Dystopia (2019)
I can't force myself to watch anymore m
I finished five episodes and it feels like a chore to watch anymore. I want to like this show. The idea is there but thats it. The characters are unlikable. The plot is vague. Its as if this is season three rather than season one. I love the actors but thats about it. You can't act your way out of a poor script.
Eden Lake (2008)
masochistic tale, well acted but a dead end script
I watched this video in hopes of an exciting thriller with many suspenseful moments and a twisting plot. I had read critical reviews and thought this must be an enjoyable story. I was sorely disappointed.
The movie began with much hope of being a good tense thrill ride. The main actors performed the script, what they were given, beautifully. You quickly bond with the couple and hope the author wrote some redemption for their struggles they face at the hands of the angry youth. As the movie wore on, I quickly got irritated with the plot and began to hope for a quick ending. The story slowly builds but never achieves climax. It simply unravels at the end and a completely implausible finale left me angry for wasting the past hour and a half. A violent tale that doesn't seem to go anywhere and leaves the audience in the dark. This is merely my opinion but as an avid watcher of thrillers and suspense films, I felt this film was lacking a worthwhile plot and resolution of the story which held so much promise in the start of the film.
Mr. Smith Gets a Hustler (2002)
Descent movie about gay for pay lifestyle
Saw this movie completely by accident. Didn't know any of the actors involved but was prepared for the worst but was genuinely surprised. The movie was good overall and had a likable character in Bobby-the lead character.
Most movies that deal with this topic have characters that come off as homophobic straight boys or stereotypically gay, but the character of Bobby is different and this credit goes in part to the young actor and the director/script for giving him a likable disposition and circumstances that traps him into the lifestyle.
Props goes out to the supporting cast who did a great job showing that no one is either pure innocent or pure evil when you're dealing with prostitution and the resulting lifestyle.
The end song, "Wings on my ankles" is even catchy.
Definitely worth a look if the topic ever interested you.
