Love and Leashes (2022)
funny, refreshing and wholesome
I didnt expect to enjoy this film as much as i did. I thought it was a refreshing representation of a bdsm relationship instead of the 50 shades sh1t where it's just abuse but it's okay because it's "bdsm" when it's actually just abuse
very cute and funny.
Anne+ (2021)
nice, queer, kinda sad
This film was enjoyable to watch and had some nice characters. The drag scenes were fun. The friends were nice but i think their characters could have been slightly more well rounded tho i guess it's not a super long film. Some nice queer rep.
Was happy at the beginning when Saar and Anne are at Saar's parents and they're supportive and everything. Watching that part i was actually relieved that it wasn't a scary/upsetting/tense coming out moment and was just a small celebratory one
I didn't like the deterioration and ending of the relationship with Anne and Sara, i understand that Anne didn't want to go to montreal and i think that made sense for her character and it also makes sense that she didn't want to be (or know how to be) in that relationship any more since she struggled to communicate for so long but the break up felt a bit nasty and blaming on both sides. Sara obviously was noticing something was wrong with Anne but Anne refused to talk about it, and if Sara recognised Anne's discomfort she shouldn't have glossed over it. It's also disappointing that the polyamorous relationship was sort of made into a "desperate attempt to fix the relationship" instead of just having a different kind of relationship to monogamy. Anne says "i'm not against all polyamorous relationships, just this one" which is fair enough but Anne was obviously insecure in her relationship with Saar and that just brought out more insecurity and jealousy etc
break ups are often pretty not nice but i think given the overall tone of the film maybe it didnt need to be so nasty, or maybe it would have been better for them to have the confrontation earlier in the film and then talk it out over time and decide to do long distance instead of everything blowing up near the end.
It's nice though that Anne apologises etc at the end.
