Gladiator (2000)
A movie that will be a classic for decades to come
Gladiator is a film with almost nothing bad to say about it. Just a plain good historical epic (although not too true to history lol).
Great story, great action, amazing setpieces. This film really does a good job at transporting you to roman times.
The Guns of Navarone (1961)
I don't really understand the praise
Guns of Navaronne is a film where a whole lot of nothing seems to happen. I kept waiting theoughout the whole movie for the exciting part to happen but it never came.
In terms of story, its the classic ragtag group of soldiers on a secret operation in enemy land. Some of the subplots between the characters were mildly interesting but never really seemed to lead anywhere.
The action scenes are a bit lackluster partially due to its age. However, the scene at thewhere the guns explode was pretty awesome due to the fact that its a real explosion.
Its not a bad film by any means but I got absolutely nothing out of watching it so I'd have to give it a low score.
Fight Club (1999)
Didn't really know what the hype was about until...
...what was probably one of the best and most mind-bending twists in cinema.
Fight club is a film oozing with interesting ideas in an ultra-gritty backdrop. Probably a little too gritty for me but its the perfect setting.
Great acting all around too, the gradual descent into madness was really quite believable. Some of the things which happen in this film are pretty brutal too (the part where the guy's balls almost got cut off made me look away in anticipation).
Just an awesome film.
Kung fu (2004)
A goofy-yet-awesome martial arts film
Definitely one of the more unique films I've seen.
You can never really tell what will come next in the film, whether it be an amazingly-choreographed fight scene, some weird-ass superpower or even a looney tunes-esque chase scene.
Even if you aren't a big fan of visual gags, the fight scenes alone make this film a good watch.
The Dictator (2012)
A movie as ridiculously funny as it is cringe-inducing
Sacha Baron Cohen is known for his incredibly vulgar and offensive comedy, and this movie does not disappoint in that regard.
However, for every joke that made me laugh out loud there was another which fell completely flat and another which made me die a little bit inside.
The part in the "woke" grocery shop, while maybe slightly more original ten years ago, is one of the unfunniest gags I've ever seen and I kinda wished they dropped the semi-serious (but wholly boring) romance subplot.
Overall, while I would say that this is worth a watch, feel free to just skip over some parts of the movie.
There Will Be Blood (2007)
Maybe one of the best movies I will ever see
This movie is a masterpiece.
This is one of those movies where you can rewatch it and catch some new detail every time. Go into every youtube video about this movie and in the comment there'll be someone giving their own interpretation of the movie.
Daniel Day-Lewis' acting is just amazing (in order to see the scope of it you should see how he normally speaks) and really brings to life this amazing screenplay about greed and family.
Do not miss this movie.
