Baby Reindeer (2024)
A Poor Man's "Joker" But Worse.
What a real waste of time and money!
Is this what Netflix is trying to pass this self-indulgent & nihilistic garbage off as "entertainment" and "awareness"?
This miniseries seems like it's trying to poke fun at (demoralize/discourage) & discredit/gaslight the actual victims of stalking & sexual assault/abuse, thus making these tragedies/misfortunes into a huge cruel, sick joke, all thanks to this unfunny/untalented, misanthrope & narcissist of the creator and alleged victim, Richard Gadd, who just as cringeworthy awful (in real life) as his fictional counterpart of himself, Donny Dunn. In other words, he's giving himself away to the audience that he's a con-artist/fraud who should NEVER be trusted at all.
Nothing screams like "attention seeker" and "victim(hood) narcissist" like him as he uses his alleged trauma(s) as a crutch & badge of "honor" (actually cowardice) to fuel his hugely inflated ego, generate massive profits from it and obtain his 15 minutes of undeserved fame. And the saddest part? At the very end of the miniseries, it's heavily implied that instead of improving & reevaluating himself, he'll take the easy route as he'll continue/enable the vicious cycle of self-abuse/sabotage & con-artistry as he'll fool his future impressionable victims who will naively sympathize/empathize with him without knowing that at the end, they will get used & backstabbed by him as he did to Martha, Teri, Darrien, Kaylee & so many closest others. And we're supposed to feel sorry for this selfish ingrate?! SMH...
Throughout the miniseries, none of the characters were interesting, likable nor redeemable (I don't even defend Martha's psychotic actions at all, BTW.) although the actors' performances (minus Gadd's) were impeccably astounding, but Donny is the most despicable & pathetic of them all as depicted as such. Therefore, the audience should not expect any drastic, radical changes from him as he's destined for inceldom & perpetual failure for the rest of his remaining years. In other words, what a waste of human space, really. It's not even worth binge-watching the entire thing as the rest is just PURE CRINGE!
Also, doesn't it seem very suspicious that he was telling his fans NOT to do any further investigation(s) of this particular matter from the miniseries? Throughout countless TV interviews, he constantly creates several inconsistencies about his alleged claims of said stalking & sexual assault/abuse. He even admits that he fabricated/altered some information (if not, a lot) so that people would never find out the real "Martha Scott", the alleged stalker. He never even publicly named the alleged sexual predator (as clearly depicted as "Darrien O'Connor" in said miniseries) that he encountered earlier in his lifetime as well. If he isn't nor doesn't want to provide any substantial evidence to support his claims whatsoever, then he's obviously lying, thus completely losing his entire argument(s) & credibility as a legitimate victim of such particular case(s). Honestly, this sounds like hogwash to me as it raises a lot of red flags and eyebrows on this, for sure. Therefore, I'm very much neutral on this matter.
As the saying goes, "They are always three, if not, many sides to every story". But the question is which one is actually telling the truth? Only time will tell as more proof will be eventually gathered and revealed...
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
The Best Movie of Year, All Thanks to Weird Al!
This film was a very hilarious, over-the-top (in a very good way) and fun parody/spoof of Weird Al's very own autobiography/biopic with sparks of interesting twists and quirks. As a result of this, it became pure comedic genius, as it was perfect from start to finish. Therefore, it is destined to be a Golden Globe and Emmy Award contender for many considerations.
PROS:
- Everything was perfect, especially Daniel Radcliffe's wonderful and stellar performance as the titular role, the amazing and brilliant Alfred Matthew "Weird Al" Yankovic. It really nailed it as it would become one of his best breakthrough acts ever, making a great departure from his Harry Potter character and franchise as a whole. Also, Evan Rachel Wood's portrayal as the the very famous sexy-but-scheming Madonna was just as excellent as Radcliffe's. Therefore, both should get a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination/award for their hard-work. Finally, the awesome, killer soundtrack and cameo appearance of Weird Al himself was DA SMOKIN' BOMB! Another Grammy Award nominee!
CONS:
- None at all.
Overall, this film was/is solid-gold, light-hearted comedy. This could be used to give the audience the need of HUGE comic relief in these harsh, difficult times one is still living now. Thanks and kudos to the entire cast, crew, the Roku Channel and to the genius/guru Weird Al himself for giving Daniel Radcliffe a BIG acting career boost/leverage and making all of this possible to create. Finally, this movie's very powerful and courageous message is to be authentic, original, unique and most importantly, to BE WEIRD like Weird Al. Well done, good show, bravo and encore!!!!
Blonde (2022)
The worst rendition of the Great and Legendary Marilyn Monroe, brought to you by Netflix. Inc.
This film was one of the worst interpretations/analyses of one of the most brilliant and well-known iconic Hollywood starlets of all time, Marilyn Monroe. Please keep in mind that it is not even a biopic, per se, but a fictionalized and hypothetical account of what would have been her entire life as is, according to the novel of the same film title, written by Joyce Carol Oates.
PROS:
- The beautifully appealing and well-designed visuals/art direction and costumes/makeup.
- The dramatic-yet-bold original musical score.
- The seemingly and curiously interesting dialogue.
CONS:
- The entire cast was awful, especially Ana de Armas, who portrayed Marilyn Monroe as being too melodramatic, too melancholy, too clingy and downright too mopey-dopey, nevermind the Cuban-Spanish accent slip-up.
- The entire plot, storyline and screenplay itself was too much of it being a pretty bad smut flick, thus giving it the NC-17 rating, with historically inaccurate events (which never happened at all) and druggy/seizure-induced moments.
- The rather annoying and eye-searing cinematography which the scenes were constantly switching from B&W to color and tilting/zooming on the characters back and forth, which was pretty inconsistent.
- Once again, the disgusting degradation and dehumanization of Marilyn Monroe's character/demeanor as being nothing more than just a "dumb blonde" and a sexpot as depicted as so. Even JFK was being depicted as a good-for-nothing playboy/user.
- The whole film being reduced to someone's sick fetish and wet dream of her.
Overall, this was nothing more than sexploitation and defamation against an iconic and historical American figure. Even sadly, this film and the novel as well, never seem to highlight her other life-time achievements besides being a Hollywood sex symbol. Therefore, those did not elevate/exalt her legacy at all. Instead, these just crushed it. I smell a million of lawsuits coming in against your those two and hopefully, that time comes so.
As Christine Crocker (formerly Chris Crocker) would say, LEAVE MARILYN ALONE!!!! May she rest in peace in heaven, that poor woman, her. She never asked for this nor deserved this at all.
Please Baby Please (2022)
Not one of the best LGBTQ+ films I've seen.
This film was a failed, poorly executed, pretentious and amateur attempt at being different and avant-garde á la Kenneth Anger/David Lynch/John Waters/West Side Story with the elements of the queer culture and woke politics.
PROS:
- The underrated-yet-top-notch and stellar performances of Andrea Riseborough, Karl Glusman, Cole Escola and Ryan Simpkins.
- The beautifully appealing and well-designed visuals/art direction and costumes/makeup.
- The haunting-yet-elegant original musical score.
CONS:
- The overhyped and unconvincingly awful performances of Harry Melling and Demi Moore due to miscasting.
- The painfully obvious and downright abysmal dialogue.
- The very tedious, redundant and chaotic nature of the entire plot, storyline and screenplay.
- The anachronistic and nonsensical elements of 1980's-style harshly bright neon lights and dramatic dry ice smoke in a 1950's setting.
- The film itself being reduced to an annoying and boring college lecture of a gender studies course with an even painfully obvious agenda of wokeism and degeneracy of far-leftist dogmas.
- The poor play of lighting and darkness throughout the entire film.
- The rather nonexistent and confusing message of the story.
All of these cons as mentioned above just rob all the thrills, humor, fun, credibility, excitement, adventure, spirit and entertainment of it which makes it less interesting and memorable to watch. Overall, this film was very subpar and will be easily be forgotten as it will only appeal to a certain niche which will apparently become an obscure cult classic. It was all pretty image, but no true substance. Get woke, go broke!
Even Shiva Baby and But I'm a Cheerleader as LGBTQ+ cult classics, fared a lot better, had interesting storylines, had dramatic and convincing plots and overall, were perfectly executed than this film. Just my two cents, coming from a non-binary/gender-fluid person like myself.
