The Night Agent (2023)
hilariously idiotic entertainment by the end
This entertaining pseudo-thriller starts of a bit silly and get's progressively more idiotic in storyline towards the end, all the while remaining very entertaining as the cardboard characters "act" towards the trope laden finale.
Despite the silliness I stuck with it for the pure fun value as the who dunnit messy plot veered around. Still trying to figure out how much bigger the boat cabin was on the inside than the boat was on the outside.
It will be interesting to see where they go with season two now that most of the interesting characters from season one won't be available it seems for various reasons.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
starts good, ends up a mess
Some good ideas. But ultimately a meandering letdown. The last episode was an epic incoherent sharkjump on par with the last episode of PRISONER.
This had some promising ideas (and some dumb ones) a lot of them from the offcuts and random bits leftover from PROMETHEUS etc..
It could have been so much better.. but wasn't. They paid for all these great actors.. one possible theory is then blew all the writer budget on drugs (it would seem).
Station Eleven (2021)
YAPAMOF: Yet Another Pandemic Apocalypse Made Of Flashbacks
This show was actually pretty good, I enjoyed it. It's from a book from 2014, though the story in the TV show diverges from the book quite a bit.
A bit arty and conceptual and soapy but I enjoyed it. The pulp fiction "MIX UP THE TIMELINE to drip feed the story" thing turned up to 11.
The King's Daughter (2022)
A stinker. Avoid.
I read the book (1997 fantasy set in a "magical" version of Louis XIV court) and it was pretty good, but they really messed up this movie adaption.. even getting to use Versailles as the actual set didn't help.
A kind of unintentional (or maybe intentional) way some of the crowd scenes look like a new romantic Adam and the Ants music vid is quite cool though, possibly the only positive.
Don't Look Up (2021)
heavy handed but worthwhile satire. hilarious
I really enjoyed DON'T LOOK UP
A very heavy handed star studded netflix satire with some cheesy USA bits towards the end, but in the balance really quite good.
Breaking Bad (2008)
One of the greatest TV shows of all time.
Everything was done right with this TV series.
Writing.
Characters.
Actors.
Cinematography.
Perhaps towards the end the plot gets a little bit crazy and over elaborate.
But it is still amazing, from start to end.
