Sharper (2023)
Plagiarism
When you have that kind of budget, why can't you pay a good writer to come up with a somewhat original story?! I only watched the first 30 min or so and the whole thing started cracking up. First, the trick with the watch and the parole officer - copied from Catch Me If You Can. Then the whole thing with the training, I had a feeling I was watching a Luc Beson movie, maybe Nikita or Leon: The Professional. There's that saying: "There's nothing new except what has been forgotten." I mean, probably, every artist "borrows" from other artists to some extent. But when it's so obvious, the best word that comes to mind is "fake". In this case, even the good cinematography couldn't help. I feel like I wasted my time.
The Outfit (2022)
Looks nice but story is naive
There is a lot of holes and naive moments in the story. It's nothing close to the Usual Suspects or Knives Out, some of the good examples in the genre.
Acting is good. Cinematography and design are also nice but being confined in that shop all the time makes it more of a tv theater than a movie.
Irrational Man (2015)
Beside the good leads, not much there
Never been an Allen's fan. Although, his movies got slightly better when he stopped acting in them. His characters seem to be recycled every time: love triangles with women juggling between relationships with emotionally unstable men.
Also, the "Jewishness" that always has to be emphasized and often expressed with the dislike of Christianity. As if Jewish people are somehow more morally virtuous than Christians as a whole. Is it that they somehow equate Nazism to all Christians or is it their inherited believe of Jewish superiority? That racial bigotry is being used by the Coen brothers as well but, at least, their movies are truly original.
Mononoke-hime (1997)
Great classic animation
Great classic animation. The visual style perfectly blends with the sound, voices and music.
Marriage Story (2019)
Pretentious bull
I can't believe this film got such a high score and all the awards. It's plain boring. The acting is flat. It has no rhythm. It's a pretentious bull. I wonder if all the people, who liked it, are pretentious hipsters, who think this is arthouse cinema. If the director's intention was to copy Ingmar Bergman, the result couldn't be further away.
Obarnata elha (2006)
one of the best Bulgarian movies for years
It's one of the best Bulgarian movies I have seen for years. I was very pleased by the excellent directing, great cinematography and great cast. The several different stories in the movie are very good collective representation of the contemporary Bulgarian society, encompassing many different aspects of it. The philosophic topics, though, are rather universal. The cinematography not only works great with the story, but it also shows the beauty of the Bulgarian landscape with a great diversity. I recommend this movie to everyone who wants to rediscover Bulgarian cinema, but also to those of you who are yet to discover it or simply want to learn something about Bulgaria.
