Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Could had been so much better
The pacing is fine, the acting is great and the humor is awesome. But the writing and directing in the massive battles could had been so much better. Endgame was a masterclass on how to do a huge battle right, but Dr Strange's battle of kamar taj felt more like a battle of winterfell than endgame or helm's deep. I wasn't expecting a fight at the proportion of those, but I expected more than a 5 mins skirmish (more like a massacre) where Earth's supposedly mightiest sorcerers were dropping like flies.
Wong finally gets more than a cameo in a movie since Dr Strange 1, but the portrayal of the sorcerer supreme was way too weak. I don't expect him to win the villian, but neither did I expect him to not even last 1 or 2 exchanges with the villian.
Don't even get me started with the fight against 838's heroes.
Overall the movie is okay; just that the fight scenes are letting down tremendously. It should had been a 150 mins movie with extended fight scenes instead of rushing through them. As for the much hyped "horror" tag in the genre, I don't watch horror but I didn't felt this should be classified as a horror. Moonknight was way scarier though.
Zhen · San guo wu shuang (2021)
Felt like a missed opportunity
I played the dynasty warriors games and knowing how often games-to-movie translation fail, I didn't had high hopes for this movie. But nonetheless, I still felt pretty disappointed.
The pacing is terrible; it started decently enough then slowed to a slug about a quarter through before picking up near the end.
The actions you expect from a dynasty warrior game? Almost all of them are in the two trailers already. The friendly fight between Cao Cao and Liu Bei felt like a missed opportunity; it was just a normal wuxia fight sequence with no elements of dynasty warrior in it.
Anyone who also played dynasty warrior will also know that military formations doesn't exist, and I'm also not sure if the scene about Cao Cao and the pigs should exist; there's nothing DW about it.
Not to mention the ending... it literally ended in the middle of nowhere. Not closing any chapters nor epic enough as a cliffhanger, it... just ended like that. Like the director forgot to shoot another scene or two.
Some of the casting is really solid, like Dong Zhuo, Cao Cao, Zhang Jiao and Liu Bei. I'm indifferent about Louis as Lu Bu, but Guan Yu and Zhang Fei definitely need to be more muscular; they are so skinny!
In short, there was just too much talking and too little dynasty warrior action. Felt more like a normal ROTK movie than a Dynasty Warrior movie.
