Death on the Nile (2022)
First viewing of Kenneth Branagh's version of Poirot - from Japan
I'm a big fan of David Suchet's Poirot. I have also read his autobiography, Poirot and Me.
I don't remember which of Agatha Christie's novels it was, but I remember reading one in my mother tongue (Japanese) as a child, and at the time I had some difficulty with the number of characters.
Now that I am an adult, I would like to read her novels in English, but this is not happening. I am still learning English.
I'm afraid to say this because of these circumstances, but to be honest, this is not the Hercule Poirot I know. Totally different.
And many more questions.
Do we need explicit, sexual scenes in Poirot?
Is the secret of Poirot's moustache in the original story?
It didn't have that classical atmosphere of the 30s.
In the TV version, each of the unique supporting characters was very appealing, which was another reason why I liked it, but the film did not have a strong impression of them, so I felt it was lacking.
Branagh's interpretation of Poirot may differ from Suchet's.
As I haven't read the original, I don't know which Poirot image is correct and there may not be a correct answer.
I also saw Peter Yustinov's version.
He's friendly and kind of cute.
Branagh's version was too emotional for Poirot at the end of the film and lost its softness.
It depends which Poirot you prefer, but I wouldn't go to the cinema to see Branagh's version of Poirot next time.
