Ted (2024)
Get rid of the step sister
An interesting idea, but boy did the female step sister character stink. I get it, we must obey the modern mantra that white men are bad, but this is meant to be a comedy series. I dont need some whiny woman to point out that certain people might be offended. And this feels like it happens in every single show. Just make a comedy that we know is going to upset someone and say We Dont Care.
The best bits are the bits without the step sister, that should tell you everything you need to know. Its not that shes a bad actress, its just that she's been badly written. We are going down the route of all the other tv shows, and its boring.
Murder Is Easy (2023)
Dear BBC, please stop
This is just an abysmal adaptation of a classic story. Who on earth in the writing and production team thought this script was any good/ How did it get funded (obviously its the beeb, so they dont care how they spend the publics money). And who gave the green light for this to go out on air. It is a travesty. You might as well have called it star wars for all the connection it had to its original story. Why not let these people wander around with mobile phones, as they clealry have no idea how to act like someone living in 1950s England. Truly, truly awful. Everyone involved, from the person who made the tea, to the director general of the bbc, should be taken outside and shot.
Lessons in Chemistry (2023)
Why bother?
Its a simple question. Why bother? Why bother to set this in the early nineteen fifties, and then go out of your way to throw in modern politics at every single opportunity. At some point you begin to lose focus of the story because either the social mores of the time dont make sense, or you can see the next message coming a mile away.
These types of shows are just becoming tired. The writing becomes lazy when the cast becomes the message. You are better off sticking to the book. If you are really interested in a period tv series then go watch Mad Men. The characters are flawed, but thats what makes them real. Every episode is a lesson in screenwriting, and in history.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Truly Awful
Make that truly, truly, awful. The most egregious thing about this movie is that it is boring. Part of that is down to the fact that it is too long. But the major issue is that no one knows whats going on, The main characters are after something, but who cares. They might be stopped by...bad people, but who cares. They had to get it before...who cares? And no one cares about the characters. Indy is a sad sack throughout. Big nose is just insufferable. Its no surprise you end up rooting for the Nazi in this film. This is just an absolute waste of half a billion dollars. Worse, disney have yet again taken a well loved character and taken a giant dump on him. Shame on the writers, the producers and even the actors in this coffin of mediocrity.
Reacher (2022)
Enjoyable escapism
This is a good old fashioned modern western. A loner rides into town, sorts out the problem, rides back out. During which he cracks a few nuts and almost falls in love. The acting is fine, the writing is snappy, the direction good for television. If it has any faults its that it can all sometimes be a bit on the nose. The side characters can often come across as being confrontational just for the sake of it, and Reacher can be a bit too much of the strong silent type. But its a lot better than most of the drivel thats on television at the moment. It leaves politics out of the writing and as such is all the better for it.
Simon Schama's History of Now (2022)
Pretty poor
What has happened to Simon Schama? Gone is the interest in history and an objective view of society. Instead we were forced to watch and listen to a diatribe of totalitarian slavery which contained the sinister undertones of anyone who does not agree will be eradicated. This was how fascism and communism managed to brainwash not only the vulnerable but the educated as well. Art and politics were used in the same way Chairman Mao's little red book was bashed on the head of anyone close enough. This was poor by schama, whom I can only think was manipulated by the BBC to go along with this rubish.
See How They Run (2022)
Love Sam Rockwell, but this was crap
How did they get it so wrong? On paper it could have been a very entertaining film, but something must have changed in production. Everyone seems slightly miscast, and show their depreciation by not bothering to act. Saorise Ronan does a decent job but its hard when no one else is.
The other strange thing was to have a black actor play a real person. Why didnt they give the black actor one of the other roles and have someone who at least resembles Agatha's husband play the part. This film is a waste of a script, a waste of a studio budget, a waste of scenery and a waste of my time. See how they run appears to refer to the audience as the credits rolled.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Cant see this making five series
I can't help but feel that most of the money must be being spent on merchandise, because for the life of me I can't see where else the money is being spent.
We know that Amazon used the media to push the race baiting to the forefront even before the show started, giving some indication of their lack of faith in the show itself.
It wouldnt have been so bad if they kept different races to different geographical points, but no, this must reflect the modern media world where all diverse characters are strong and righteous, and all white men are somehow subhuman when it comes to strength and morality.
People are tired of this sort of drivel, no matter how expensive the production.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Just awful
Its not the poor writing, poor acting, lack of story or pace that annoys me, its the constant attack on men and the idea that being a woman is enough to get you out of trouble that made me give up on this ghastly drivel.
This is a show that has no redeeming qualities. There is a simple way to know if the writing is any good. If you changed the women with white men, and the white men with black men or women and you watched it again, would you feel uncomfortable with the way they were treated. Would you think that the new men somehow got whatever they wanted without any repercussions simply because of their race and gender. This is the sort of writing we left years ago. Now it seems that as long as we can attack white men then its OK.
Nope (2022)
No thank you
Are we allowed to criticize films with a largely black cast or made by a black director? I only ask because the previews were for The woman King and Black Panther, and they all sort of feel the same. Whenever you get into trouble with the plot, blame the white man.
At least Nope doesnt feel as though you are being hit over the head with racism every five minutes; but then you begin to think that at least they would have made some intergalactic sense. This film is nice to look at, but feel like one of those original Twilight Zone episodes that hasnt lasted the test of time.
Stranger Things (2016)
The woke is strong by season 4
I dont know where this show is heading anymore in regard to the white male characters. All of them are slowly turning into caricatures. Its as if the writing room is so afraid of upsetting any minority they simply let them say and do what they want, leaving everyone else to carry the plot. I hope the series ends.
New Elizabethans with Andrew Marr (2020)
How does this man get work?
Another biased review of history from a man who despite his flatulent approach to presenting is really a self centered populist in disguise. Another millionaire who keeps his money while telling everyone else what they should do with theirs.
DI Ray (2022)
Did a twelve year old write the scripts?
Pretty much lazy on every single thing. The writing is lacking in any imagination. The acting is very wooden. The director is going for the cheapest and quickest shots. There is nothing about this show that makes me want to watch anymore.
Ridley Road (2021)
Road in the hole
In what should have had the touch of a tailor, after watching the series, one feels as though you have been hit on the head with the mallet of social justice. Clearly racism is wrong, but rather than tell a good story, a load of sanctimonious well wishers have decided to shout out the message instead. This is a 1960s England where women are equal to men, although white men are morons and diversity is great. What should have been entertaining and educating felt more like a political broadcast.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Hokey Pokey, lets go wokey
Lots of little effects, little messages, little scenes, little clues, that in the end sort of go nowhere. Perhaps if this was a series being steamed it might get a bit more love. But its a film, and the best thing I can say its that its rather like watching paint get mixed rather than dry.
Death on the Nile (2022)
Sewage
What a waste of time. The only shock is that some people are giving this marks above a four. I would suggest they read the book, or see the film with Peter Ustinov. Here we have a Hollywood remake. CGI Pyramids, tick. Woke casting, tick. Clunky dialogue, tick. This is yet another film you can watch once and never feel the need to see it again. Bravo Hollywood.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
What happened to season 4?
The first season was brilliant. The second season good. The third began to falter, but there was hope. And then we had season 4. What on earth happened? I don't want to say it went 'Woke', but something happened. From what was a homage of the 1960's, it became a sort of something that was in the way. They started doing things that would never have been done then. They started putting in music that was not relevant, and they simply changed the attitudes that would have been around. Its become a sort of Bridgeton in New York. I wont bother watching the next season if this is how its going to go.
The Ipcress File (2022)
Another waste of time
How do you manage to take a great book and a great film and stomp on its head until it is rubbish? There is one screenwriter and one director, but this feels like another show made by a committee.
Sister Boniface Mysteries (2022)
How do I apply for this government grant?
There is a point when a production team has look at the script and decide how much each episode is going to cost. They have to factor in the cast, location, production, and compare it to advertising and overseas sales. But I have a feeling there must be a special diversity grant from the government where money is given to period shows if they have diverse characters in the cast. This can only be the reason a show like this has been made.
Around the World in 80 Days (2021)
Oh the humanity
What a truly ghastly tv series. Devoid of any wit, wisdom, fun or real narrative. Instead we are hit on the head with the woke hammer at every opportunity (but dont worry, this only relates to white people, the tribulations of other cultures are simply ignored). Everyone involved in this must have just done it for the money.
Last Night in Soho (2021)
Could have been better.
Great visuals, but the story seemed a bit meh. A bit like when imdb ask you to contain at least 150 characters and you don't know what to say, you fill in the rest of piece with waffle. As I say, they story seemed a bit rubbish, but the visuals were good. Should have just made a film set in the 60's.
Murder, They Hope (2021)
Enjoyable, but could be better
Some funny moments, but it almost feels as though they don't want to go the whole Carry on hog and let fly. I think this is due to the woke world we live in today, and the fear of not wanting to offend anyone. They should learn from Gervais and Chappelle and just go for funny.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
I would rather have a colostomy.
Hard to say if this is boring and awful, or awful and boring. Yes we have a couple of diverse characters to please woke hollywood, but didn't we have that anyway? The only thing I can think of is that the original just wasn't woke enough. Is that what we have come? How sad.
The Larkins (2021)
Truly truly awful
2021 has been the perfick year for horrible remakes or shows that are just simply ghastly. This is no exception. Want a show set in the past that bears no resemblance to what is was actually like? Done. Want a poorly written script that seems to think the story should take second place the the woke message? Got it. Want to be bored? Its all here. Everyone involve din this should hang their heads in shame.
The Amazing Mr Blunden (2021)
What a blunder
Was this made by a committee? Nothing seemed to fit. From the forced diverse characters to the obviously bad white people; the jokes that didn't work to the themes that were banged in, this was just a bad movie. Watch the original if you want to be entertained or want to understand how to write a good story.
