Journey to Bethlehem (2023)
Haters back off
This movie was so well done! The music, the actors, the costumes, the singing... all of it was a win! I cried in it multiple times! I loved how it gave an alternate perspective to the nativity story we all know. It was so cool to see how it could've been.
Also for parents, I felt like it was very appropriate for kids. It was fun, clean, and very beautiful to watch. Nothing struck me as "too mature" for my little ones.
This definitely has now become a Christmas classic in my home. Beautiful work, thank you to all involved for making such a great film! Please do more Bible musicals!!! Maybe do Abraham and Isaac, or Moses...We are here for it! But I don't know if you'd be able to top this movie, though. Loved this.
Christmas Time (2023)
Little budget, big heart
I don't understand why people are so critical of little budget movies, like they are in the same league as blockbuster films! I don't think you can compare!
The lead was a good actor, setting was beautiful, the writing was alright, the story was sweet! Yes, some of the actors are what you pay for (not incredible, not horrible). Really the most odd thing about it was the casting of Doug Johnson, the ethnic son in a very Caucasian family hahahha. Idk maybe he was adopted. The story was sweet though, I love that it was all about family and putting them first. It lagged somewhat in the middle. But when you click to watch this movie, you know what you're signing up for- low-budget but pretty cute.
The Hatcher Family Dairy (2021)
Please renew for another season!
I don't find myself binge watching shows much... but this one I did!! I love their little family and how inspirational they are! The Hatcher family is so fun to watch! They are comfortable on camera and show us what working hard and playing hard looks like. The filmmaking is also beautiful and very uplifting. Great job, editors! Another beautiful thing about this show is that it makes me appreciate the food we can so easily access in the store. So much work, love and care goes into every glass of milk! Please please PLEASE bring this back for more seasons! Everyone wants more Hatcher Family Dairy!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
What's the goal here?
I feel like they are pushing the adult side of things with this movie- Wanda breaking her body to get through her reflection, strange possessing his other self's dead body, the souls of the damned becoming a cloak... these are all "horror" category to me. (Not to mention the crazy amount of blood and carnage) Was this their goal? I remember in the past, walking out of a theater after seeing a marvel movie with my family excited about how the good guys got the bad guys and we all had fun. But now... what??? It's getting too dark!! Calm down marvel. I have kids and I don't want them to hate you!
But unfortunately, this movie got boring, too violent, too gory, too weird at times. I'm hoping this isn't their new direction.
Purple Hearts (2022)
Booooo but mostly at Cassie.
This had so much potential!! I love the character Luke, troubled past but trying to be better. But wow Cassie was so annoying. She walked around so holier than thou, selfish, hot headed and she was always a mess. Writers, why??? Plus, her voice was too breathy to be adored from me.
This movie just rubbed me in all the wrong ways. He was trying so hard to do good and think others, and Cassie was always looking after herself. In the movie she says "see? I'm LETTING you help me" soooooo ridiculous. She's theeee worst.
Well I lost two hours of my life. Disappointed.
Cyrano (2021)
Great version of Cyrano!
I loved Peter's performance. His acting chops are not always given a chance to shine in other films- but this movie we get to see his incredible talent!! Good gracious, he was spectacular!
However, his singing was auto tuned but I didn't come to see this for his singing, so I wasn't mad.
The best singer was Christian. I wished the music could have let us hear his belt more!!
The music was pretty, and the cinematography was gorgeous.
I did find it weird in the scene where Roxane would like make out with the letters...?? Like why guys. Hahaha besides that weirdness-
Really good movie!
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
Nailed it.
The best (short) version of pride and prejudice! Nothing can replace the incredible mini series from BBC A&E. But to shove this much perfection in 2 hours deserves 10 stars!!
Things I love about this movie- the MUSIC. Absolutely breathtaking. The score is moving and dramatic but not overbearing.
The ACTING! You really believe the relationships you see. The sisters, parents, the romance...10/10
The cinematography- most shots could be an old painting! Truly great work.
This one is kind of random but I love the textures. We get to see the detail work in the variety of textures displayed! In the first two minutes we see old pillars, vines climbing crumbling brick, linens, wooden tables, an old book... it's just dreamy!
Love the story, love this production, love this direction. Ten for ten from me!
Finding You (2020)
A perfect feel good romance
Gosh I just finished it and I loved how happy it left me feeling! Is this the most decadent romance? No- but it's not shallow like hallmark movies tend to be. There was beautiful music, mystery, love and GORGEOUS Ireland backgrounds. A perfect movie to end the night!
Turning Red (2022)
Not letting my kids watch
I LOVE DISNEY AND PIXAR. But this felt so off. This does NOT fit their standard of story excellence. This was just.... bad.
The fact that the protagonist admits to drawing "sexy" things about a boy. WHY IS THIS HERE. This is PIXAR. For CHILDREN. Where is the beautiful storytelling of Monsters inc, Coco and Up? Why are we dragging mature content in a movie advertised to children!?
There were multiple moments where the main character and her friends hid things from her family and encouraged others to do so too.
This is not ok. Movie makers need to step it up. Little messages like this cause ripples that can destroy family relationships. Life imitates art nowadays.
Some of the quotes in it:
"My mom called it stripper music. What's wrong with that?"
(Mom to daughter)
"The further you go away (from me) the prouder I get" it goes without saying that the mom is super conservative and traditional.
(The last quote of the movie)"We all have a...beast inside of us. Most of us never let it out. But I did! How about you?"
If this really is the first female directed movie for Pixar- my heart is so sad. We women have worked too hard to be taken seriously in the work place. Then making something like this that polarized it's audience? SO DISAPPOINTING.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Disappointed
I love a good fantasy show. But when the gore, smut and swearing are sprinkled in so frequently- it starts to rub me raw. I was disappointed in the series. Incredible writing, acting, graphics, costumes, and detail; but why feel the need to talk about sex so much? Why swear so much? Why so much blood??? It's for these reasons I can't commit to anything past four stars. I wish filmmakers would create content that is adventurous, exciting, high budget and doesn't include extreme blood, swearing or sex. (Lord of the rings nailed this! Incredible story, great acting, super adventurous- AND CLEAN). Wish this show could've been cleaner.
Psych 3: This Is Gus (2021)
Here for it!!
Thank you for making this!! PLEASE KEEP MAKING THEM! I love the writing for psych and I think this movie is some of its best!
Firstly, we are die hard fans and want to thank you for keeping it lighthearted, and family appropriate! In a world where smut is a way for writers to get an easy laugh- it's truly the mark of a great comedian who can create humor that everyone can enjoy. Thank you!
The inside jokes are *chef's kiss*
The pop culture references are *round of applause*
Seeing the characters develop, the jokes keep flowing, and the disguises keep coming, makes me wish this show will never end.
