Definitely Award worthy.

Very Hard to watch. Almost had to look away in the beginning cause it's very tense. Guess the fact the actually lived in Milwaukee (unusual high amount of Serial killer come from this place). ...Hits a nerve. Netflix pretty much outdone themselves this time. Probably win something for this. So far watched 1-4. ...which explains how he was captured, the initial ineptitude of law enforcement, and how he became to like his killing obsession.

Evan Peters (plays Jeff) and Richard Jenkins (plays Lionel which is Jeff's dad). ...Supposed a combined of his parents, his Mom taking drugs while pregnant(plus she was weird too), Inability define himself sexually, his obsession with killing early on and no real direction in his life. ...plus his other multiple obsessions include relating intimacy with tons of other things. ...but it was this and Alcohol that did him in. Hate to mention white privilege helped him a bit, but in the end his Obsessions became his weaknesses.

Raised by Wolves (2020–2022)

New Age of Sci Fi... Next level
29 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty obvious Raise by Wolves have been in Sir Ridley Scott's mind for a long time ...his ability to keep Us off balance & horrified has Gotten Better with Age. The acting, cinematography and story is far above anything this year. Some people won't get it ...cause not used to sci fi or want the answers provided for them. This isn't that kind of show. From the Very First Episode you realize you're watching something very different. The two androids Mother & Father with their protection/caregiving programming are perfect. Unfortunately children are Incredibly Unpredictable & add Atheist/Religious War or the Mithraic add Fuel to the Fire. Of what is already a very difficult task in another planet. Mother is Fearsome/terrifying but Caring but Father is also absolutely necessary as a kind of a different protector that the children can relate to. Somehow Marcus(Travis Fimmel) Amazingly is able to stay One-Step Ahead of them. His acting is pretty good as a man trying to every different landscape & situation he finds himself & his partner Sue(Niamh Algar) which forces her to adapt as things go from Bad to Worse to Dangerously Weird. There are lots of things We Still can't explain yet ...the planet, the holes, what's that big Rock, things that keep coming back, etc ...what's with The Voice that make you See JESUS literally!!! Almost like watching old TV show Lost (but in space & some Incredibly Unpredictable AI). After seeing Episodes 1-9 realize We're watching a Human Story being unfold ...like Romulus and Remus trying to Warn Us Don't make the same mistakes as Rome.

Are we human enough to accept such a gift?

Superb ...
8 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Wow. This man does not do anything small. This movie is definitely Epic. Like others have said …this is not an action flick, but more cerebral(like Inception). If you're looking for thinking, blow-half your mind experience …and s'thing you're still thinking about the next am, then this is for you. Mr. Nolan definitely trying to out do himself, he comes close to succeeding that task.

Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain give very good performances. Because the story is so well-woven and each an intricate part of one another …is hard to explain the movie without giving much away. Essentially …takes part in the future where the earth is just not able to support us anymore. These anomalies appear near or around Saturn, but turn out to be wormholes. This particular crew is sent through it …what begins as explorers, end up being a tale of survival. It gets even more complicated as for each month for the crew is equal to 7years back on earth.

I must admit, is quite a bit of thought put into this movie. Very impressive. Thank you again, Mr Nolan for frying a couple of my neurons in my brain. I expect nothing less. Good job.

Elysium (I) (2013)

...Impressive _GO SEE IT!
8 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Wow! I just finished seeing Elysium …I must say that director Neill Blomkamp is definitely growing as a filmmaker. As in his prior work … despite the impressive technology, he focuses on the human factor which elevates the movie than just mere blow-up shootem up film. He has definitely made something new once again. The movie stars Max(Matt Damon) as he grows up with Frey(Alice Braga) … though their lives take different paths as they grow up …it intersects like an explosion later in life. The basis of the movie is that people living on earth are living in desperation and day by day. There are pockets of rich people but mostly to build ships, sophisticated robots and anything else the very rich needs. The rich actually live in a space station called Elysium …which is not only a living habitat but it actually keep people without any sickness and in a good environment. Something people on earth no longer have. Max (used to be a thief) is now a factory worker …making robots, but one day due to an accident …he is expose to too much radiation and has 5 days to live. Prior to that he meets Frey again who is now a nurse with a very sick daughter. Max tries to get to Elysium for a cure …but the only way to get there is through Spider(played by Wagner Moura) and doing it underground, but 1srt Max has to be equip with a 3rd generation exoskeleton which allows him to be faster and stronger. Unfortunately, the person in charge of protecting Elysium is Delacourt(Jodie Foster) who is very ambitious and utilizes an agent name Kruger(well played by Sharlto Copley) with all the means at his disposal to achieve to stop anything from reaching Elysium or even if reach to stop them at all cost. With Spider downloads unto Max a program meant to "reboot" Elysium …and possibly change everyone's lives but what ensues is a battle between the haves and have-nots …that's decided only by one side completely dying or transformed. …the human factor definitely keeps the movie grounded. Is bloody, is not for the meek but like everything …it serves it's purpose.

Impressive!
15 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't sure what to expect! What Ridley Scott have created here can be called a Pre-quel but it can stand on it's own. The movie asks more questions than it answers by the end. Plus make no mistake …there is plenty of blood and gore! It starts as two scientists Dr. Elizabeth Shaw(Noomi Rapace) and Dr. Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall) discover a small star map within many ancient civilizations throughout the world. With the help of the Weyland Corp …they are able to find some of the answers they seek. The true ugliness of selfishness and self-preservation in corporate world in shown here, but David/android (played by Michael Fassbender) brings it to life with a malevolence that even HAL 9000 would be proud of. But his true purpose comes clearer as the film progresses. At the end, but Dr. Shaw and Dr. Holloway but face with the horrors of their discovery which is more chilling than anyone could have imagined.

Brace yourself !
18 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
For a low budget movie …is one of the best of the summer. What has been created here by Neill Blomkamp (director) w/collaboration with Peter Jackson will become the subject of philosophical discussion for years to come. 'cause it says so much about us as human beings. The film starts with Wikus (Sharlto Copley) who heads a task force (including civilians, police & private military) in charge of evicting extraterrestrial population from center of Johannesburg to the countryside, where they can be easily managed and controlled. Their ship somehow ended parked over the city for almost 20 years. Despite the fact that we helped them, understand their language and some of their behavior …we do not yet know all their secrets (like if their ship can be restarted, controlled or learn to operate their weapons; which no one seems to completely figure out). It isn't until Wikus ignorance or by luck gets expose to what it looks like biotechnology, that we finally get a glimpse at the hearts of the alien populace. Though Wikus is an average joe …he must decide look inside his own self to find his true humanity in order to change everyone's destiny (for the better or worse). …overall - the true heart of the film will show is that what's inside of us is the real extension of humanity will be our true place in this universe.

Amazingly human !
4 July 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Wow ! At first I thought is was a psychological thriller but with a WTF moment turned the film into "what it means to be human!". It starts Sam Bell(Sam Rockwell) has done it's duty as faithful employee mining a very precious commodity on the moon, in order to produce fossil-free-energy. Just short of his last two weeks, he starts seeing things, getting fuzzy images from earth and having wacky dreams. It isn't until he has an accident, that things turn upside down and he discovers the truth about himself. Director Duncan Jones has produce that closely stands apart from other similar movies, which I believe it was his intention. ...it ultimately asks "what it means to be human and for how long?".

Pure Love
16 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't sure what to expect at the beginning of the film. But after watching it, it left me with two words "Pure Love". Not sure where John Aivide Lindquist (author) got his inspiration, but's clear that love was at the heart of the story. I don't doubt this film might win an award, for him and the director. The story begins with a girl, named Eli (Lina Leandersson) moving into the same apartment building as Oskar (Kare Hedebrant). Oskar is a boy that's continually being bully at school and it's obviously having a psychological effect on him. After seeing this, Eli, begins to talk to Oskar, but warns him that they cannot be friends. We find out later, she needs real blood to live. But what begins as curiosity, ends with both of them being so attached to one another that, they begin to depend on one another. But it isn't until Eli's guardian futile and idiotic attempts to feed her, that forces Eli to take a course of action, which will change the lives of both (Eli & Oskar). This movie truly answers the question on how far are you willing to protect the one you love. The answer is "ANYTHING".

Understandable until the very end!
6 January 2008
Warning: Spoilers
To understand this movie, one have to look into ones soul and try to understand one's purpose is in world really is and what it all means at the end? Which I presume is partly the reason …why Mr. Sean Penn made Mr. Krakauer's book into a movie. In Chris McCandless' world the notions of material excess and gratification comes second or even last. This also allowed him to adopt a philosophy that money does not bring the sole meaning in life as his dad tried to masquerade his own wrong doings with materialistic possessions. Though the journey that Chris McCandless undertakes throughout the country in order to find some meaning to his life, it also gives him some answers, that were staring at him in the face all along. By this, I mean that all of the connections that Chris severed with his real family, he also sort of had to make on the road with his new surrogate family. Ironically the fact that he never once called home to tell his family, where he was …it is both (his natural & surrogate) families that feel his loss. There is no doubt that along with the message, music, panorama vistas, Emile Hirsch, Hal Holbrook's performance that this movie will win an award. By the time the real Chris McCandless death ……I too was coming to an end of my own journey which lasted 8 years (and began at 17 years old), into the wilderness to some of the harshest climates and even I always followed the rules to this day. Which is why the end of this movie shocks me to this day. According to the locals Chris …refused the following 1) a local map and 2) winter gear. In addition …there was a bridge a few miles he could have traversed during flashflood season and 10 miles away there was a shelter with resupplies. After learning, all of this, Iam still not sure how to take this movie. Though it made me shed a tear at the end, the message I got from it, is when it comes to nature and family …humility may be your greatest salvation.

Split second chance at LOVE
21 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I was a bit apprehensive about this movie at first, like everyone else. Not sure why not more people like it. Though I loved this film from the very beginning. Zoe Cassavetes (Director) managed to capture the neurotic, desperate and anxiety that sometimes overcome us (women & men), when we can't seem to find what we are looking for and seems like all hope is lost. Nora (Posey Parkey) manages to portray this into the screen in a very real way. Nora (Posey Parkey) plays a thirty-something who's got everything set right in her life, except a person that can actually love her for who she is. Audrey (Sopranos' Drea de Metteo) is her best friend with her husband Mark (Tim Guinee) as well as her Mom tries to set her up with other people, but this proves to be so disastrous that she goes to a really bad depression. One can even feel the walls caving in, as if all hope wasn't really in the cards for her. It isn't until a co-worker invites her to a party that she truly tries to avoid when suddenly, she meets Julien (Melvil Poupaud), a Frenchman who not only wants to get to know her, though he tries to kiss her, he actually respects her enough to wait for her to initiate something intimate between them. Through this, he truly ignites the thing that was missing in her life or turn on something she had given all hope for to find. The only problem is that he is leaving at the end of that weekend and then he is gone. She attempts to solve this dilemma by literary quitting her job, everything else and taking her friend Audrey with her and embarking on an odyssey that will take them to Paris, France in order to find him. Whether she finds him or not …you'll have to see for yourself. But the movie does reminded me to another film called "Before Sunset", but this film it's done in such a way that it grabs you by the B*LLS and don't let go until the end. We all go through life on our own music beat, but once in awhile we meet someone, that for a second, matches our rhythm. This is close to my heart, since I can relate to this, because I too have found the person that makes me melt in a very similar way.

voyage towards PROFOUND LOVE
26 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
There is so much sex in this movie …that my face was turning red during half of the film. Though ultimately this film is about relationships and LOVE. It let's us know that we are all interconnected in this life through SEX and LOVE. Despite what your views are about sex …it what makes us not only feel alive but also allow us to be part of nature. It really surprised me how much of Sofia and the other couples show so much of themselves out into the open. The film is about two couples and 2 other people, but one of the most interesting people is Sofia (Sook-Yin Lee), a married sex-therapist who have never achieved orgasm and along with her husband Rob (Raphael Barker) …they embark in this quest by going to the free-thinking- place called Shortbus. Even though Sofia visits it first, this place changes their lives. Plus the lives of a gay couple Jaime (Paul Dawson) & Jamie (PJ DeBoy) who's relationship may have lost some spark (who is joined by a third/fourth party) and a dominatrix Severin (Lindsay Beamish) who doesn't allow herself to be touched by others. It seems like the true answer for everyone in the film is Shortbus, a place where they come to feel connected, to feel appreciated and free to explore what truly frighten them …which is a true sign of being ALIVE. Otherwise you might as well die.

Extremely Thoughtful !
6 February 2006
Tommy Lee Jones has created a Masterpiece about understanding that no one seen coming. It is true that the film's message is universal, but it's also one of empathy in a world it has completely forgotten basic human principle of respect, due to our own petty human materialistic needs and selfishness. Pete Perkins (Tommy Lee Jones) and Melquiades Estrada (Julio Cedillo)are truly friends in this film, where they practically share the same THIRST for life. But when a very short tempered Mike Norton (Barry Pepper)a Border Patrolman, accidentally kills Melquiades Estrada, it's Pete that finds it upon himself to find some kind of peace and justice for his friend. Thus, Pete ends up trying to teach Mike a lesson of respect. But it's ultimately both men that learn about life and how far will one go to regain just a little bit of dignity, along with forgiveness...which is all we truly have at the end.

Funny ...!
6 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Found this movie to be very FUNNY! Ol Parker(director) has truly created a romantic movie where he attempted to define love as a specific point in time where one person feels an absolute attraction for another. The truth is I found it a bit hilarious, plus the movie doesn't belittle either women or men and truly treats them with intelligence and respect. The movie involves Rachel (Piper Perabo) and her new husband Heck (Matthew Goode) & their relationship, which is define as perfect. But at a chance Rachel happens to meet or glance at Luce (Lena Headey) who seem to have an almost instant connection to her. The fact that the girls keep encountering one another doesn't help the marriage and everyone in the movie, including their parents have to face this predicament head on. By now Piper Perabo has gotten very good at playing a person that falls head over heels ...for a girl. Which does helps convince the audience she is not just a girl with an obsession but that this was truly an unconscious choice at love where her heart took over her mind/body and was truly set FREE to make a choice ! BLESS HER HEART!

Amazing love story ...with a twist !
21 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't sure what to expect from this movie at first. But it was wonderfully unpredictable! Unlike the Hollywood garbage! The movie starts pretty much with Andre (Lazaro Ramos) having a crush on Sylvia (Leandra Leal)which he has only a remote chance of going out with. But once he meets her, Andre wants more money in order to impress her, so Andre sets off a chain of events with love as the true prize. It starts as a simple love story, but then things get complicated as he and his friends work together to get what they need in their lives. Jorge Furtado (director)doesn't only makes us think about the true significance and motivation of money, but also how far are people willing to obtain love. While I didn't expect the ending, since the viewer is seeing the movie from Andre's perspective. But the ending is the kind that easily sucks me in without hesitation & loved it.

Extremely Inspiring
19 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
This film is about the acceptance of our true self in the world, despite what everyone else wants for you. One must define his/her life from what it's in their heart and not for what someone else's vision about ourselves. Director Ekachai Uekrongtham vision really gives us a glimpse into life of someone that dares to confront his true self unto a world that's not ready for change, just yet. Asanee Suwan is able to makes us feel Nong Toom's pain into what most have been enough torture to drive someone out of their mind. Nong Toom was able to survive this by having a focusing on his purpose of eventually providing for his family and becoming his true self. Think Nong wants to let us know that his life is not about being gay, transvestite/sexual or even straight, but about living your life to wherever your heart and true self take you.

Saving Face (2004)

Impressive
26 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
MMMMmm! Interesting comments below! The truth is I LOVED this movie! Not only because it tackles stereotypes and confront some issues that even Hollywood would shy away! This movie could have been about a Jewish, Hispanic, American or any family in the world. It breaks down preconceptions about traditions, since we all want the same thing ... to grow as human beings & have a family. But it's up to ourselves, on how which path we choose to get there. This movie is about that type of growth within ourselves! Both Wil (Michelle Krusiec) and Ma (Joan Chen)portray daughter and Mother that have to come to terms with the people they want to love. Both of them have to deal with breaking tradition in order to continue living. Otherwise, they let society dictate their lives. Wil (Michelle Krusiec)character knows she is attracted to Vivian, but it's so reluctant to accepted her love because that would be denying the path her mother has set for her in life. At the same time, Ma (Joan Chen)is trying to come to terms on how to be a mother later in life, deciding on pursuing her true love (you'll have to see the movie to find out who) or finding a new one, without shaming her father and going against tradition. This is obviously a pattern. Both Mom and daughter find themselves at a crossroad in life. Even though it's Mom's unexpected pregnancy that ignites it ...it's daughter forces both of them to choose their path. Like Wil's grandfather says in the movie "Fate is for the lazy!" But the movie goes beyond that, because it redefines the definition of relationships within a family and a community. Some of you defined this movie to Asian-American or gay/lesbian. But it's an interesting human story that forces us to deal with different issues in order to make us grow, which I suspect is why these superb actresses took on these very non-traditional roles. Joan Chen always seem to take challenging roles and this movie demonstrate a growth as a person. *GOOD JOB* As we all know people don't react well to change! Therefore ...only through understanding & accepting each other is the only way to get pass our differences and live with one another.

True Essence ...!
2 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I understand most of the comments in here! But this film raises the questions of "how do you define love?", Questions of class inadequacy?" and "What is the true value of wealth and morality?". In this film 3 very different people come together and change each others lives with some very different results. Eleanor (Joely Richarson) despite dying, she achieves happiness by understanding that those around her felt love, jealousy or were deceptive toward her. Cynthia (Molly Parker)despite loosing her love & being deceptive, she was able to understand the true value of family. She also learned that one true value doesn't necessarily come through wealth. And Buck (Aden Young) despite of loosing his true love, was to love for the first time and stop being uncaring. The film the definition of love goes beyond the physical sense of human understanding & shows that people can be love for who they really are. Once this is done, you omit any notion of beauty, ugliness and sex as the attributes of love. The inadequacy between social classes in the film raises the issue that despite some of us being born privilege or underprivilege, everyone basic needs remain the same (sustenance, love, being love, etc). Lastly, the film questions the value of wealth and how much of an importance do we put in our lives to achieve it, since in the end, we cannot take any of it with us. But it is our families and our deeds that are our true treasures and measure of our value as individuals.

Healing One Self...!
2 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Think this film demonstrates the power of reconciliation with one self. Seems like just about every person in this film has some kind of imperfection that they must confront in order to keep on living. They must deal with situations they put themselves into, the actions taken (good or bad)then decide on a solution. These are the decisions Sylvia (Isabelle Huppert), Laurence (Maud Forget) and Joshua (Pascal Gregory) must answer only to themselves on this road film in which coincidently is a trip in which forces them to define themselves. Eventually they choose a path in which they must reveal themselves, while cracking through their hard exterior created by their experiences in life. Isabelle Huppert has typically chosen some very challenging roles but on this film, she utilizes her actions, body language and facial expression to reflect a woman that has been broken (due to her choices) for so long that the only way for her to keeping living is to confront her past full-force. All of us has something that we don't like about ourselves! This films shows us that there is redemption for our sins, which ever it may be.

Thoughtfully Inspriring...!
2 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Think this film is more than letting us see if we are willing to be slaves in a free society or to be an outcast in a free world. Or that there always be rules to control the chaotic nature of us humans. Or that we are merely programmed & pre-depositioned by our genes as individuals. The true questions is what path are we willing to make us human beings. Are we willing to follow our dreams, loves and desires? That's the true question William (Tim Robbins) and Maria (Samantha Morton) must confront in this film. Genetically they are so close, it's illegal even by today's standards. Love is not only the glue of their relationship, but the path to it's destruction. Though they are willing to take that chance no matter what the rules. Though I truly love this film for what it tackles and the questions it raises. I love the linguistics of English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, etc and it's acceptance of a multicultural world that we are fast becoming. But with new challenges, we must understand that we should never loose our own humanity & there is no gene to replace the human heart.

Unusually Attractive!
15 August 2004
The story in Zatoichi is a story about a blind master that fights corruption in a town. But the story also tackles issues of corruption, child abuse, prostitution and gender identity and honor! Think the film is about suffering and the things one is willing to do to survive and acquire revenge. This raises the question of what drive us, as human beings in out daily lives! After watching many of Kitano Takeshi's films, this one stands out as one of his best. He has made something unique here, beautiful shot and some may even try to duplicate.

P.S. If you suffer from heart condition, skip this movie! As in the Takeshi tradition... this is so bloody you'll need a day to recuperate!

Interesting
30 July 2004
Interesting film! If Night Shyamalan (director) keep making movies like these.. he has a future! I really didn't expect the things I saw in this film! This movie demonstrates what you are willing to do ultimately for love despite fear, threats and inevitably one's demise! Despite all the things that point to the contrary some people are born different and are destined to challenge things in life...! This film shows both the extreme & wrong way to love AND/OR the right way to follow our hearts. Making this choice will help you decide on the true motive of the movie. For me... will always follow my heart! Watch it without any expectations!

Only Real Intellectuals Need To Apply
3 July 2004
Was it just me or these two (Julie Delpy & Ethan Hawke) really had chemistry on the screen? This is not your usual date movie, 'cause it actually get on topics and feeling we all have as human beings. It touches us in the heart, grabs our undivided attention and attempt to give us an answer, while in the process watch two people fall for one another. Thus they don't truly understand it,even though they have been separated for 9 years, there are pieces of their lives that are unresolved, that they can only answer with each other. I was amazed by the boat trip, the car trip and toward the end! All while in the process felt as if I was watching Paris, France itself. Which was as beautiful as the movie itself.

Awesome... Best thriller so far this year..!
12 March 2004
Wow! It took some guts for Val Kilmer to play this very complicated character. Val Kilmer is put in some real tight situations in this movie, which seems to get more complex by every few minutes. If it weren't for the hints Derek Luke pointed in the movie and the multidimensional talents of Val Kilmer, I don't think I would have totally understood what was happening. In the end, it's all about what's more important in your life. You truly have to pay attention...! Or you miss things! Almost as if everything means something in this movie. Iam glad this was an Independent movie otherwise it would have been very different..! P.S. Go see without expectations..!

Finally...
24 February 2004
After years of searching for this movie, I finally was able to watch it this week and it was better than I expected... Found Alexandra Dahlström - Elin and Rebecka Liljeberg - Agnes interesting, since they were able to bring excitement, confusion and discovery of a first love out to the screen with realism. This could have been the story of any couple but it's heart to demonstrate this much daring for someone that you really want and you know others won't accept is exceptional. In the movie, Agnes knew what she wanted from the beginning (and she didn't fear it) though she almost lost hope one or two times. Though, it was Elin's sister's dare that ignited something in Elin or discovered something that was missing in her life and ultimately had to decide to confront it or not. To tell the truth, I was expecting another flat love story, but I found strength in these two characters in which love it's the ultimate definition. In these days of defining the word marriage in a blind society that can't see what we are to learn from one another, this should serve as a true example of where to begin at understanding relationships.

Trip for the soul...
24 February 2004
This is one of my top 10 movies. The trip Masatoshi Nagase has to make in the movie is priceless. Despite the annoying people, criminals, freezing temperatures and using various mode of transportation, he never one complains. I think in some ways he discovers something about himself and his parents that he didn't know before this trip. Also of how strong he really had become with determination. First time I saw this movie a few years back, I realize that I too have to take a trip home (Caribbean) pay tribute to my Dad. Just hope it won't take me as long to get to my destination. So in part I can relate to this movie.
