Dune (1984)
Uninspired
This is not the Dune adaptation to watch. If you are a fan of the books, this will be a disappointment, if not, it's just an average piece of entertainment. You can be interested enough I suppose if no background going into it; otherwise, you will feel frustrated with the direction this went in.
Interstellar (2014)
Visually stunning and emotionally impactful
McConaughey is back at it with another Oscar worthy performance, and Chastain is brilliant as always. The only reason this isn't an all out ten is because I don't think the science entirely makes sense, and I don't even know if it can, but like the idea of a forevs time loop that somehow has always had its beginning and will always happen as it does in this film despite the fact there would've had to be a time before the loop in theory but I guess not reality, well, am I confusing you? Exactly. Aside from that though, the way Chastain and McConaughey were tied together as father and daughter and him being her "ghost" that was always speaking to her the whole time, while not unpredictable, was definitely impactful for me.
Minions (2015)
Give the people what they want
All I really wanted ever from the first Despicable movie was one centered completely on the adorbs little minions. We finally got it, and I just find them and the whole plot being centered on them so cute. It's exactly what I wanted, therefore I can't justify giving this film lower than top rating :)
Miss Sloane (2016)
A complete gem
This film legit caught me off guard with its ending, and most do not do that for me. That alone made me love this way more. It also deals with ethics and philosophy and ideas of right versus wrong very adequately, and I'm on board with a film willing to delve into more complex questions, especially when Chastain is back at it as her typical brilliant self.
Dune (2021)
Acceptable
So I have to say that I disagree with some of the ways they tried to show emotion rather than capture the subtlety in the novels, and also if you haven't read the first book, I don't think this will be a very exciting film. It's a very elongated piece of exposition to set up a real story. It has utter beauty in its visuality and sound, and there are some great casting, specifically Momoa, who is enthralling in every performance he gives. If you like the book, this will do it for you, and so it's better than average, but for general audiences, I don't know how much people will feel this is necessary to see.
Alpha Rift (2021)
All Around Alright
Ok so I need to say that this film gets about an average rating from me because it has some problems with knowing what it is. I saw another review on here that said "know what you're watching," but like, did the director know what he wanted us to be watching? The acting is solid by the main cast at least, but all depth is only added through the acting. No real depth wouldn't be a problem if all this was was a fast-paced movie written without much character development made for the attention span of children. However, all the excessive language and allusions to sex then strip this film of being that, and I don't know if I'm supposed to want this to be more or less than what it is? If looking for more, any development by the characters, again, it's the actors who shoulder the burden of finding some development in their characters and trying to make it appear where it isn't in the script. I just think this movie could've been more, but because it couldn't decide what it wanted to be, it was just an alright watch. Nothing more, nothing less.
