Undisputed II: Last Man Standing (2006)
pretty good
I was very pleased to see a movie where the conditions of a foreign prison were held true. I know some people might struggle with some of the story line that is hard to swallow, however, the camera work and the fighting choreography are some of the best I have seen. I really liked the fact that the fighters used mixed martial arts and hand to hand combat. I like also the story line that a man who is falsely accused and sent to do time, even though he could rebel, finds a way to learn something about himself and do good things for others. there are some non-fiction books that can be picked up that cover true American stories that have a similar flair. It is also refreshing to note that the director did not try to say negative things about any Nation, but rather proved something Universal. Corruption is corruption, whether you eat it out of a silver bowl or a hog trough.
Freedom Writers (2007)
wow
Hooray. I am always thrilled when pictures come out that say to a people, "Look, there are some real, hard working, morally sound role models for our children in public schools." I cannot ever begin to say I had to dodge bullets to get to school, however, I can relate to a lot of the home situations of some of the characters. I think the fact that instead of forming a picket line to express dissatisfaction over how she was being supported, this teacher responded out of a character that said, "I will do whatever it takes to help students discover who they can become." How refreshing is that. The fact that it is based on fact makes it even more wonderful. I am going to research the school online as I want to know what is happening there now. Do not miss this one.
Hostel: Part II (2007)
Walked out
I should have known. I have seen people involved with this film intoxicated during interviews more times then I can count on two hands. One of the people involved while speaking out in one breath about how horrible a snuff film would be if it were real, makes trash like this to put out for public inspection. They live in LA, a place I once resided, that is riddled with violence and one of our countries highest murder rates. It makes me wonder what Tarantino will be remembered for when he is in the grave. Oh, yeah, he's that guy who made over the top violent bloody movies and influenced a bloody violent country, to adopt that normal forms of murder, can be improved upon. That is what serial killers do, the kill is no longer gratifying for them, so they get baser and baser in their acts in order to regain the thrilling feeling they got the first time they did it. I do not know what is worse, the premise that people could fund a trip to a murder factory, or that moviegoers would fund artists who think it is fashionable.
License to Wed (2007)
One to miss.
I was listening to a radio show recently that talked about how comedians who do comedy under the influence or by doing jokes that contain sacrilegious humor or profanity, that once you take that away from them, there is not much left. Unfortunately, this was even worse than RV, a movie our children wanted to turn off in the first ten minutes. I wish Williams would come up with something original and fresh. His old I'm a frantic, wired funny man just doesn't work anymore. The story was very flat for me, and in a country that desperately needs to get back to strong moral roots of obedient behavior and sexual purity, Williams character seems to fly in the face of everything that is Holy and there is so much of this in movies it is hard for morality to take a step forward when media keep punishing morality in such negative ways. I disagree with some that this performance shows the depth of Williams acting ability, but rather think it show his depth of flawed character and little moral or ethical values at all. Sometimes art does imitate life.
