Skateway Massacre (2019)
Cheesy nostalgic fun
We saw this a while back. That roller rink was a creepy setting and was a nice throwback to the 70's and 80's. It made me want to roller skate again. Fun indie horror that could have used a bigger budget.
Satan's School for Girls (1973)
Great 70s low budget horror
I can understand some people not liking it but I loved it. It is unapologetic vintage horror with some good acting and a decent storyline. The head mistress was creepy as hell. The ending was a bit predictable, but still really cool if you're into nostalgic horror. My only complaint is the movie needs an updated remaster as the version on streaming tends to be a bit dark sometimes.
Don't Hang Up (1974)
Obscure and bizarre
This is definitely for diehard genre fans. The story itself is pretty weak, but it's still a fun watch. My boyfriend brough home a copy of it and we gave it a watch. Quality wise it is a bit crude and dated but I think that adds to the charm. There are a few good scares and creepy moments. If you love old indie horror you'll like this movie.
Monsters (1988)
Love this show!
My boyfriend recently turned me back on to this show. I had forgot all about it and I suddenly remembered loving it back in the 80's. Fun stuff, yeah its cheesy horror television but its so fun to watch. Lots of cool appearance by yet unknown actors and cool cameos. This show needs a relaunch on Netflix!
Death Note (2017)
I don't understand the hate
This was a fun movie with a splash of style. The acting was good, the overall look of the movie was fantastic. I felt a little bit of nostalgia thinking back to high school. Definitely a good movie to watch on a rainy night. It's worth watching if you subscribe to Netflix.
Halloween II (1981)
Not as good as the original, but still ok
For a sequel it is really good on it's own but it will forever be in the shadow of the original (which is classic). This movie has plenty of scares, creepiness and nostalgia. I recommend not watching it immediately after the original. This version does have more gore and some tense scenes. Overall a fun slasher flick that is stylish, scary and some ok entertainment!
He Knows You're Alone (1980)
Creepy and underrated!
A great 80's low-budget horror. The film is very similar and derivatice of Halloween, but stands on its own merit. It is also nice to see a pre-Oscar Tom Hanks in a slasher flick. A fun movie to watch with friends.
The Clown at Midnight (1998)
Great lesser-known Canada horror!
This movie does not get the credit it deserves. It is moody, stylish, has a great cast and a great concept. The setting is absolutely beautiful. Christopher Plummer is great as is Margot Kidder, who I really only know from Black Xmas and Superman. The movie is not overly cliched and has some creepy moments and gruesome deaths. For true horror fans.
Space Station 76 (2014)
Fun, stylish, retro!
I loved this whole concept. I thought it was an awesome throwback to the Buck Rogers and Battlestar Gallactiga of the 70's. The costumes, the hairdos, even the look of the space station itself works. I don't understand the hate for the movie as I rather enjoyed it. I think people today like visual fx that look like video games, but this reminded me of the great stuff from the 70's and 80's.
The Dorm That Dripped Blood (1982)
They don't make em like this anymore
A blast from the past! Awesome 80's horror for real horror fans. No digital, no green screen, just good old fashioned practical blood and effects. The setting of this movie is super creepy. Sure, the sound and some of the lighting could have been better, but it is a great film that is watchable from start to finish. A great flick to watch with friends.
Sleepy Hollow High (2000)
Great little indie horror
Good stuff! We watched a bunch of indie horror films on Halloween and this one didn't disappoint. It has a pretty cool premise and a creepy vibe throughout. Yeah it was little less polished than other horror films but I think it actually works in favor of this movie. Don't listen to the haters and give it a chance.
