Rango (2011)
Not for your kids, but adults will love it!
In the 21st Century as we are of today, we got many gadgets that help our lives more easier, even for all of the recents of animated and live-action movies. Which also means that western films are dead to us expect for the grown-ups who lived their whole life watching it.
In Nickelodeon Movies' newest flick, Rango; that's become of another story.
Rango tells the story of a chameleon stuck in a little town better known as they called it Dirt; he makes himself a sheriff and goes by the name of Rango.
Pirates of the Caribbeans co-stars Bill Nighy and Johnny Depp join forces once more with their old director Gore Verbinski (whose also directed other movies like Mouse Hunt, The Weather Man, The Ring and The Mexican.) in this oddly weird picture as we called it an animated movie.
Rango may look like an innocent children's film due to the PG rating, but it's more than that. Think of the Legend of the Guardians when your watching the flick, but with swear words thrown right into our very own faces.
How is it they get away with it you may ask? Who knows? But Rango is not as bad as you think. Other than the good pep talk it's gotten since it's release in spring-time, this is not something a little child should be seeing. Teens will laugh and surely adults too will probably wind up falling for it.
On my watch and in my book, Rango deserves it's 9 out of a 10 for me. And it's higher ratings were almost close by my ends.
Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)
Po is back! Bringing more of his SKA-DOOSH!
In 2008, Dreamworks brought us the marvelous tale of a giant panda who dream nothing more but to do kung fu with his heroes, The Furious Five, and was now accidentally chosen to be the dragon warrior and save china. Since then, everyone love the film. But the question remains; where did Po come from? Why was his dad a goose? Well 3 years later, we finally got our answer in Kung Fu Panda 2. In the latest news of the sequel, a peacock named Lord Shen (voiced by Gary Oldman) wanted nothing more but to make his parents proud (much like Tai Lung wanted to please Master Shifu in the first film.) but when a Soothsayer confirmed to his folks that he would be defeated by a warrior of black and white (remind you of anyone?) Shen did all that he can to make sure his future would not happen to him, but as he done the deed of getting rid all of the pandas he could find, Lord Shen was banished, but vow his revenge that he would return.
Now many years later, Po finally gets the chance to learn about his past and finds out why he's at where he is right now as he faces his greatest fear; battling Lord Shen.
I haven't really review that many sequels expect for a couple of bad ones (like Open Season 2 and Open Season 3) but this? This one was very promising! New bad guy means more new action, which means more challenges Po has to take care of (even if he's by his own or not.) It almost stood up as much as the first film did, but it also delivers a very special message; and that message was to let go of the past; no matter how bad it might of been. The flashback scenes were done incredibly beautifully as it brings out much a lot of tear-jerking scenes (think of the ending from Toy Story 3. Did that one made you cry? Cause it did for me.) The music is set wonderfully (though I think it's almost the same similar ones in the original, if you have listen to the soundtrack, but just only half of the tracks don't always sound like they're alike.) And the direction where it took us brought us to an unforgettable adventure.
If you love Kung Fu Panda 1, then don't miss out on seeing the second one because more stories will be told very soon into the future as the years for us passed.
Open Season 3 (2010)
Corny, cheesy, predictable and also highly forgettable!
It hasn't been too long ago since Open Season lastly got it's own sequel, and that one became a horrible wrenched film I wish to keep out of my mind forever. Now 2 years later, we get a new one and it's more crazier than we can imagine.
Set fully short after Elliot and Giselle became husband and wife, they have children of their own named Gisela, Gesalita and Elvis. Elvis looks a lot like his dad and even loses not one, but two antlers just like him. And the twins, Gisela and Gesalita, resembles their mom expect to tell the difference, one has a black nose and brown eyes and the other one has blue eyes and a pink nose. And this of course makes Boog the uncle cause he has a brotherly relationship with Elliot.
Well as the movie begins, Boog has made a plan just to hang out with the guys, not just with Elliot, but also with Ian, Reilly, McSquizzy and Buddy. But the whole thing becomes a total waste when everyone couldn't make it, especially Elliot who lets his partner down. Heartbroken, Boog sets out on his own for the trip, but it leads him a circus where he befriends a llama named Alistar and a bear named Doug, who looks just like Boog. But that's not the only thing missing; there right away Boog falls crazy in love for Usla, a female Russian bear.
Doug decides it's time he switches places with Boog so he can be the only bear and become king of the forest. But right away when it happens, everyone realizes that their old dear friend grizzly bear, ain't the same guy so they must find a way to save their pal before it's too late and he'll be gone to Russia forever.
Like most direct-to-video sequels, you'll know that they can't make good money, so this one goes out to the same as the other one. Cheap actors, lame story writing, and poor directing. It makes up for the second sequel after being so bad, but that still doesn't make the third sequel any good. So the new characters drop down too! After viewing this, I hope that Sony Pictures can cut down to their ideas. They're not good, and they never will be. So they just leave all of the direct-to-video making to Disney cause that's what they were there for in the first place!
The Kids Are All Right (2010)
The most sweetest gay movie since Brokeback Mountain
Not so much movies about gays and lesbians has been hitting Hollywood a lot, but when it does, it gets a lot of pep talk. Brokeback Mountain was one of those rare ones that came to the screen that was huge enough to earn an Oscar.
Now 5 years later, we see another queer movie hitting the big screen, but this time only from a limited theater released called The Kids Are All Right.
In this story tells the tale about two women named Nic and Jules who are just your typical gay match raising two wonderful kids of their own named Laser and Joni. But as one of them is heading off to college, they contact a guy named Paul who is recently their real father who donated sperm. The real relationship hits off fine well with the children and then later on for Jules, but it leaves Nic out in the cold.
The performance from these actors are just so well that you can't help but hate and love some of them, or mostly all. The story was witty clever too because you don't hear a lot of back stories for people who want to help out a good cause for others that are trying to fit in with society like the rest of us.
With the Oscars rolling in, The Kids Are All Right is sure to get more chat like all of the other great movies out there. Though it if it loses, then nothing can stop it from keeping it being a good film.
I rate this movie 8 and a half stars. Closer to the average 10! Parenting may be hard, but with a title like this, you won't feel so empty out about raising kids no matter if it's from a straight family or a gay family.
Kick-Ass (2010)
Kick-Ass is a badass movie (but in a good way)
As a Marvel comic geek, you know what to expect in graphic books such as characters saving the world and defeating the bad guys, who sometime in most stories always gets the girl. But when a Marvel comic book gets turn into a live-action superflick movie, it gets a PG-13 rating right? Well all of them do....expect for one.
That tile I would highly called is Kick-Ass. Why? Because not only does the hero kicks the bad boys' asses, he also gets his own ass kicked too. (So you can see why they gave it such a funny title lol)
Based off the 2008 comics by Mark Millar, Kick-Ass tells the story about a high school kid named Dave who dreams about being a superhero, but it's not an easy job to do it. But once he does, he inspires others. Those others such as a father and a daughter named Damon and Mindy, who take up the names of Big Daddy and Hit-Girl, along with a kid around Dave's age named Chris who becomes Red Mist, but he isn't all what he appears to be.
As the movie-going fans, we all love watching a good superheroes fighting crime and busting villains. But why can't we have those in real life?
The creator's idea for Kick-Ass is quickly clever for coming up with an idea like that. Besides all of the action, and the blood gory fighting sequences, you would think that after seeing this movie, you were gonna wish you turn into a superhero yourself.
But it is not your average hero movie so it gets an R rating because of the strong language and the extremely hard-gore battling parts. So if you're used to watching highly gun-shooting-saving-the-world or comedy movies, then Kick-Ass is the perfect time to go see it.
Tangled (2010)
Disney's first CGI musical will have you up for the tangles
When we think about Disney, we look back on those oldies but goodies hand-drawn animated classics that have good songs and full of heart, but did we ever dream to think that musicals in their movies would be coming back when they began working on CGI? Well no we haven't because for most people, they think the new Disney is dead to them.
Recently one year after coming back to the old drawing board for The Princess and the Frog in 2009, Disney continues going back for more computer animation, but there's one slight change; they went back to making a princess movie after Princess Tiana got created, yet they still haven't lost their touch for the musicals we all remember from when we were kids.
Not only is Tangled the first CGI musical movie for the holidays, but also the star of the film Rapunzel is the first ever CGI princess in the history of all Disney princess.
If you remember the old story tale of Rapunzel, you may know that she is the classical one for having long locks of big hair. Even before Walt Disney's death in the late 1960s, it's no wonder that after so many movies, they didn't have the time to make a movie out of Rapunzel til now.
And more than 70 years later, it's happen. Tangled is now Disney's 50th animated feature.
Characters such as Flynn Rider and many more (not so much had good names) in the movie Tangled take you on the twisted ways of adventure; something that you will not be catching in most of the other regular Disney princess movies.
With it's highest critic and audience ratings, Tangled is the must-watch movie for all Disney goers. And soon should be added to your collection. Do not miss it!
Alpha and Omega (2010)
Love wolves? Love Balto? Then you'll love Alpha and Omega
In animated movies, you expect lot of things to make the money for it to be successful, such as looking for the greatest cast member that is right for the role, or the best writers, even the best pitching story boarders.
Well if you're looking for the right of cartoon film to watch, young or old, then Alpha and Omega will be your best fit.
Alpha and Omega tells the story of two very different wolves in two different packs on a journey about adventure and love. An omega wolf named Humphrey (Voiced by Justin Long whose also play Lem in Planet 51 and Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks) is the first wolf in history to be having a crush on an alpha named Kate (voiced by Hayden Panettiere) whose also an old friend of his.
But this is a problem for him because omegas are forbidden to be mating with the alphas. It has been their old rule for many years. But with time, some rules are meant to be change.
Soon after a bad failing caribou hunt, Kate's father Winston (voiced by Danny Glover) agrees with Tony (voiced by the late Dennis Hopper. R.I.P.) that his son Garth (voiced by Chris Carmack) would marry Kate in order to keep the peace and reunite the packs.
During that night, things take on a different turn for Kate after she meets Garth and learns one part about him; that his howling sucks! But despite that bad fact about Garth, Kate will stick up to the marriage no matter what.
It's not very long until she and Humphrey get capture by humans and are sent to Idaho to repopulate. They get some help from a golf-playing goose named Marcel (voiced by Larry Miller) and his duck friend Paddy (voiced by Eric Price) to get back to Jasper Park Canada on time before it is too late or else Tony's pack and Winston's pack will have to fight for the valley.
Meanwhile Kate's sister Lilly (voiced by Christina Ricci) keeps Garth's company and shows him around while Kate and Humphrey are gone before they are to get back.
Now Lionsgate is not that used to making many animated movies, but despite the fact that this is the first time we've had a wolf movie in 15 years since Balto, the film carries a lot of funny almost adult-like humor. The jokes will put a tickle in your tummy and the romance will throw in a good source of sweetness to your heart.
It will have you change your mind the way you see how love sparks through another one's eyes.
Death at a Funeral (2010)
Not bad, but needs more laughs! It's not funny enough!
When people decide they will make remakes outta the original ones, half of the time they're really good, but...as for depending how much you really try to make a difference, things can fail out a bit.
I've never seen the other 2007 British version, but...the new one is sorta half a failure. In the movie, a black family gather up together because a special man in their family has passed, but as the funeral draws near, Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence's characters discover that a little man they never seen before had something to do with their father a long time ago.
The film features a great cast like Luke Wilson, Zoe Saldana, James Marsden, Tracy Morgan, Keith David etc etc. The list can keep on going forever, but to cut it really short, I don't think the word "comedy" was the best fit category for this movie. You might think about getting mixed feelings for the movie cause that's what I was having before I saw it until today.
The beginning acts off sorta stupid, but in the middle of it, it blends in a little. It's the jokes that are poorly misused and not enough "laugh out loud" funny sorta type you would usually have when you're watching a good or lousy bad comedy film.
To work it out, I think the director, writers and the whole other people at work needed to come up with better laugh out jokes while they were making the film, but at the end, I guess the movie didn't turn out so bad. If the jokes were done right and gave out a more tickle in your tummy, then the movie could of work out more with better please-meant! I give it a 4 and a half 10 stars because it still needed some more work for the laughs if they wanna please the audience without making them walk outta their seats and get their money back. They could of done better than that!
The Last Song (2010)
A Beautiful movie! Miley Cyrus' best work of the year!
Since 2006, Miley Cyrus has capture the heart of both younger or older girls since her famous hit TV series Hannah Montana. But now...as her old show is coming close to an end soon with an upcoming next season, which is sure to be the last and final one, we take a new look on Miley that we haven't seen yet; something that's non-Disney and non-Hannah Montana related.
Based on the 2009 novel by Nicholas Sparks, who is known for making such wonderful love stories such as A Walk to Remember and The Notebook for example, makes something new! More romance yes, but it has an interesting turn about love.
In the movie, Miley plays a 17 year old girl named Veronica, Ronnie for short, whose is sent to her dad's beach home for the summer, meets and falls in love with a cute guy named Will, play by her real-life new boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. As the film goes on, Ronnie re-connects with her dad at a whole new level and learns the true meaning about relationships.
Now I haven't read all of Nicolas Sparks' stories yet, but I can tell that he seems very good at them when mostly all of his classic novels have been turn into movies. I have heard about The Last Song for a while now before the book came out one year ago, and I was happy to hear that the role for Ronnie was written directly for Miley Cyrus. I thought it was sweet! Her acting on the character was very bitchy in the beginning, but I think that's how it is with most of the kids that have to live with one single parent after their folks are divorced and it isn't easy for them to move on. Sometimes the things in life have to change and some of them can't be brought back but it can blossom into something new that's incredible! And I think that's the lesson of it when you're sitting down and watching the movie. The film will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and by the end of it when it's all over, it will put a warm glowing feeling into your heart.
I rank The Last Song a 9 out of a 10! Wonderful work Miley has ever done and I think she will keep making more beautiful stuff for many generations to come as long as she shall live!
Planet 51 (2009)
Outer Space just got better and better for this Universe! A grade A+
When it comes to watching sci-fi movies, you be expecting a lot of stuff that has to do with outer space such as aliens or other things that are very adventurous, but in Planet 51, we get to see a movie that takes a new turn the other way around between humans and aliens.
In the movie, an astronaut in his mid 30s named Charles T. Baker, otherwise known for shortly as Chuck (voiced by the great and awesome Dwayne Johnson who is still famously known to people as The Rock to some others) lands a new planet that is out of this world! Only to find out that aliens (that's right I said aliens) are living in a sweet old-fashion 1950s world. So with the help of his new friend, 16 year old Lem (played by Justin long), Chuck must find a way to get out of this new world and back to his old home at Earth at once before it's too late.
The film delivers a LOT of hilarious jokes you'll find in Chuck and Lem's journey; and others that would be recommended for older adults and teens rather than children. The cast was very well pick, even for Jessica Biel who plays Neera, Lem's love interest. Seann William Scott as Skiff, Lem's dorky friend and let's not forget about Gary Oldman as General Grawl and John Cleese as Professior Kipple.
Though the movie is about 1 hour long and 31 minutes (maybe a little bit shorter than Open Season) you're gonna want to wish that the flick was more longer than that and never stop watching it!
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Extremely surprising! An oddball, but highly good to watch for fun!
Since around the 1980s and 1990s, Tim Burton has capture many attention's eyes from the screen to the public eye for his dark work since he created short films like Frankenweenie and Vincent, and for working nearly 7 times with Johnny Depp, it never gets old! But now...Tim Burton takes a new turn on a priceless classic movie everyone knows and love and that's Alice in Wonderland! Lots of people have complain about this being a remake to the 1951 animated classic by the Walt Disney man himself, but no. It's more than different. It's dazzling in it's dark twisted ways! In the 2010 new version, Alice is at an engagement party where a stuck-up snooty man asks her to marry him; Alice isn't too fond by that idea so she tells everyone that she needs a moment by herself and think about it; and where does she go? To find the rabbit hole, only to end up falling to a place called Wonderful! The legendary director mister Tim Burton himself has pick a wonderful cast; and I'm not just talking about Johnny Depp or his girlfriend for 9 years Helena Bonham Carter. There's also Anne Hathaway who came a very long way since her role in The Princess Diaries playing as The White Queen in this film. And newcomer Mia Wasikowska as Alice makes her part in the movie very well done and nicely.
I've heard lots about this news for the movie since one year ago when they show trailers of it and it just blew me away, but when I saw it, I was surprised how differently it turn out to be.
It's a little bit odd than most of Tim Burton's old work before, but you won't stop enjoying it till it's over. I rate it 9 out of 10 stars! Johnny Depp and everyone in it will be making you feel brilliantly mad!
The Wolfman (2010)
Very good! Bloody as they say, but highly entertaining!
Do you like watching bloody horror movies or remakes to oldie movies? Well this movie just may be good for you if you like that kind of stuff! Based off the remake of the 1941 classic of the old version and the same name, the 2010 recent one of The Wolfman shows off it's humorous dark side.
It begins when a man named Lawrence played by Benicio Del Toro is looking for some answers after his brother has been killed, strangely by some half man/half beast like creature, but as he tries to keep on looking for his search, he gets bitten by a wolf when later on in the story becomes a werewolf at night when the full moon is up high.
I've never seen the old version for this movie, but the new one will take your breath away and make you jump from the edge of your seat! The cast members in this movie are very good, especially Anthony Hopkins who plays Lawrence's father in the movie. Before I saw the movie, I kinda had mixed feelings if I wanted to see it or not, and I didn't know that from my experience if Benicio was right for the role or not, but now I change my mind after I watch it today.
The transformation of watching him changing into a werewolf is extremely real original, more advance than what you see in the oldie kinds and you'll never want to leave this film once you get your eyes glue to the picture.
It may be the best remake you've ever seen since King Kong! 7 out of a 10 makes it super great and close to coolness!
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
The most amazing and memorable movie in Disney history!
Over the last 72 years since 1937, Walt Disney change the world by bringing us Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and for many years until his death in 1966, just a year before The Jungle Book was release in 1967, things after that were change; in 2004 the Disney Company decided to call it quits for 2-D animation when they release Home on the Range, that was sure to sadden fans and all movie-goers alike because computer 3-D animation was taking over.
Now 5 years later, Disney has come back to it's old roots again with it's special release; and that release was called The Princess and the Frog.
The film starts out in the beautiful city of New Orleans during the 1920s where a lovely African-American 19 year old woman named Tiana is busy trying to get the restaurant of her dreams after her daddy's death, and for many days and weeks, she's been working her butt off trying to get the money for it. All of this changes when the dashing and handsome 20 year old Prince Naveen comes to town.
But his trip to having fun and swooning the pretty ladies doesn't last forever when he meets a man named Dr. Facilier with mystical powers of magic voo-doo, changes him into a frog. Now Naveen must need Tiana's help with just one little kiss that could change him back into a human. After the quick little peck on the lips, not only does the plan fail, but also it changes Tiana into a frog too.
The movie in it carries a lot of warm heart and soul, much like all of the old Disney movies that everyone has grown up with as a kid through their childhood. It's got great songs and music, the characters are very fun to relate too, and everything in it will make you laugh and cry.
Don't miss out on your chance to watch this movie cause it will sure bring out the little kid in you again. It's a must see for all ages, young children and older, even adults! They'll love it!
Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
Not your typical friendly child like family movie, but it could of been done better!
Based off one of the most popular and beloved children's books of all time, director Spike Jonze brings the tale to life in Where the Wild Things Are. The movie starts off with a lonely boy named Max whose life isn't so perfect, until he runs away from home and befriends strange looking monster-like creatures named Carol, KW, Judith, Douglas, Alexander, Ira and and then of course is The Bull.
Now you may think that this is the kind of movie that you would take your kids to enjoy and have a good time, but that's where you're wrong. When I went to go watch this movie today, I was hoping to expect it regularly, but then there was more than what meets the eye. It's been a long time since I truly remember reading or looking at the book as a young kid, but in my own defense, I thought it was too strong to be PG-rated kids tale.
There will be scenes that you may or may not enjoy, but from the beginning to end, you may realize that this movie is not for little ones (That's how I saw it when I watched it at the movie theaters) Max was too bratty in the movie and Carol's character development and angry issues were too scary. If you're an adult like me, then you may want to go see this by yourself without taking younger children with you, unless you have kids that act out too much, then you would be able to understand the deep detail.
The story may or may have been kinda rushed for being a 1 hour and 34 minute film, but I did felt like there was something missing to the picture soon after it was done and finished at the end. It's not the kind of movie that I would want to watch again and it will leave you thinking with mixed signals and confusing feelings about the film.
Monsters vs Aliens (2009)
For what it's worth, this movie isn't half bad.
First off, Lemmie tell you guys something important. If you have read my review on Kung Fu Panda, you'll know that it's a true fact Dreamworks have started working on animation for quite some time now since 11 years ago in 1998, that includes their first computer animated movie Shrek and then from where on there, they give us unforgettable moments and fun but very lovable characters to watch.
But, as the more we get into CGI and much less of traditionally hand drawn animation in the 21st century, our love for animated movies might of wear out; and then there's Monsters Vs. Aliens.
To start off, let's just say I thought Shark Tale and Bee Movie was better before I saw this, not that I'm complaining but it needs a little bit more work. The film starts off with a beautiful young woman named Susan Murphy play by the wonderful loving Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, getting married to a weather reporter young man from the news named Derek Dietl play by Paul Rudd who you might recognize his work from I Love You Man, Role Models, and Knocked Up. He's not a very hard guy to spot if you're familiar with the voice in this movie.
Their wedding goes out fine before she gets hit by a meteor and grows into a 49 foot giant size monster named Ginormica (Funny name if you ask me). That's when she gets send by a little place called Area 51 from a General named W.R. Monger (voiced by 24 action star Kiefer Sutherland. His voice is really hard to realize when you're watching the film cause it's very rough around the edges when he speaks.) and meets three monsters.
B.O.B. (play by Seth Rogen, who course lend his voice before in Horton Hears A Who and Kung Fu Panda) a silly goofy little blob. A green swimming monster (can't remember what type he was suppose to be) called The Missing Link (whose voiced by Will Arnett who also was in Horton Hears a Who with Seth Rogen) and of course a human scientist with the size of a cockroach head named Dr. Cockroah Ph. D (voiced by Hugh Laurie who is quite known for his role of that crazy thriller horror show House) Their world suddenly becomes in huge danger when a four eyed alien from outer space plans to take over the world so it's up to Susan (aka Ginormica) and her new friends to save the day! For what it's worth, the movie isn't half bad, but you may want to think it over when you're watching a movie like this. I really personally thought it was gonna suck when I first saw the previews and trailers, but then the more I look at it, I began to realize it couldn't be half bad because Dreamworks has given us a bunch of laughable movies we can watch over and over. Besides Shrek and Kung Fu Panda, there's also Madagascar 1 and 2, Over the Hedge, The Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.
I know there's a little bit more than that, but I don't wanna waste the rest of my review spamming a list of Dreamworks movies. So if you're really into Sci-Fi stuff, then this movie would be for you! If not, well...there's always something else better to watch. Would I ever recommended for people to watch this film? I might and I might not, but it's their choice. Not mine!
Open Season 2 (2008)
Most disappointing sequel of my entire life!
For the longest time, I've been a fan of the original Open Season movie, but this sequel kills it! One year after the first one, Elliot and Giselle are about to get married, but their wedding ceremony has been hold off when Mr. Weenie is capture by his owners and hold hostage by a group of dogs and cats. It's up to them to save Mr. Weenie before it's too late! This sequel doesn't stand up to the first movie that well. Story was too rushed, characters didn't act like their normal selves (most of them didn't) and the animation was okay, but the dialogue grew pretty bland.
Open Season is no Disney movie, but I think Sony Pictures could of try to do better if it wasn't in a hurry to be made. Lots of animated take time to be made, but sequels shouldn't if the fans want more. Parts in it were a little bit boring but not so much interesting. I thought I was watching more of a quick short than to be focusing on a one single movie. The time in it was too fast! I would suggest renting if you guys know what's best for you. Don't buy! You don't need to waste money on it even if you're a fan of the original like I am!
Kung Fu Panda (2008)
Talk about pure awesomeness! This one takes the cake!
Since 1998, Dreamworks has become the biggest success in movie-making history when their animation (It's not as long like their live-action films, but it's a start) After The Prince of Egypt and Shrek, Dreamworks has their ups and downs with the success and unsuccess with their movies (I think Shark Tale and Bee Movie was their lowest in ratings but I find those entertaining as much as the next one) Well...after 2003, they stop making traditional hand-drawn animation (they didn't do a lot those since Shrek was their first CGI movie ever created) and continue on with the computer animation in this century.
That's when summer of 2008 change all of that. And that name is Kung Fu Panda! Set long long ago in the mystical ancient china lives a giant kung fu-loving panda named Po (voiced by comedian actor Jack Black) who dreams of becoming a hero just like his idols the Furious Five; Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Monkey and Viper (voiced by Angelina Jolie, David Cross, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan and Lucy Liu) his dream finally comes true but in an expecting way when he tries to find out which one of the members from the five will get to be name the Dragon Warrior and protect the valley of peace from a snow leopard named Tai Lung (voiced by Ian McShane) When a nine thousand year old tortoise named Oogway (who invented kung fu and is play by Randall Duk Kim) chooses Po over the well-train masters, his old friend and student, a red panda named Shifu (play by none other than the legendary great and mighty Dustin Hoffman) doesn't like the idea and tries everything that he can cook up to get rid of the panda. He later learns that he has no choice but to train the panda all that he can about kung fu and save their village once and for all before Tai Lung can destroy everything in his path.
The story is well thought-out, voice casting is excellent, and you be dazzle how pure and beautiful the traditional cel animation at the beginning will be compare to the regular CGI they keep through out the whole movie. Now if you saw the movie, you're probably wondering the most repeatful questions. Why is Po's dad Mr. Ping a duck and will Tai Lung ever come back alive or not? Well that's pretty simple. It doesn't explain in the movie but if your parent like Mr. Ping is a different breed or culture from you, then you will know that it's obvious that you can and might be adopted with or without explaining why. As for the Tai Lung question, well...it has been shown that the famous move called "The Wuxi Finger Hold" is a very dangerous and unbeatable move to avoid. Could you back alive from it? I doubt that would happen if it's already explain why you be afraid of it.
Overall, Kung Fu Panda gets a 10 out of a 10. There's no doubt from that! Ask anyone, they will say and I quote "PURE AWESOMNESS!!"
Open Season (2006)
Perfect Movie! Perfect cast! Perfect everything!
A lot of times, we have our point of views on movies and stuff that don't always agree with the other person or it may do depending how you see it, but I can't argue with this. On September 29 2006, Sony Pictures has brought us the first animated feature and that film is Open Season. Successful or not, I don't care what people say. I believe in movies and movies should be love with respect! The story starts out about a 900 pound grizzly bear named Boog who was raised in the small town of Timberline by a pretty park ranger named Beth. His life takes a turn when he encounters a fun-loving one single antler mule deer named Elliot who is full of energy and high spirit. The movie follows them on their adventure through the woods, but a hunter named Shaw is on their trail from preventing them to get back home.
The film has a lot of adventure, humor and good heart at the end, but it never fails me to see how awesome it can be. It's nothing like you ever seen! In my own views, animals are NOT meant to be hunted! They're not some winning trophy you can get for doing a good job no, they're just like people! People with thoughts and feelings. If you love watching animated movies, you'll love Open Season! Everything they have is absolutely perfect in it!
The Dark Knight (2008)
Stunning! Heath Ledger will blow you away!
Wow! It's so....wow! I've always taken a liking to Batman, including many of the other superheroes such as Superman, Wonder Woman etc etc and the Batman movies (not too many I can remember seeing) were pretty good and decent, but this one....wow! Out of this world! The movie takes place right after Batman Begins (and yes it is a sequel if some of you did not know that, it's best for you to go watch the first one before going to see The Dark Knight) and this one, as you may of known or heard of, focuses on the new villain The Joker (everyone's favorite Batman villain) play by none other than the great Heath Ledger (who passed away 6 months before the movie's released T_T) also, you will see that Batman's rocky relationship with Rachel (who is play by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who replace Katie Holmes from the first movie) has hit rock bottom when she starts dating a guy named Harvey (Whose play by Aaron Eckhart) Everyone from the first movie has return (expect of course Katie Holmes as I already mention) and you get to see a lot of surprises while watching the film. Heath Ledger has totally pull it off! At first when I had saw the previews last year, I find it weird that they chose him to play The Joker, but after watching it today, it's like wow! That guy knows how to act! The movie is two and a half hours long, but you'll never have a dulling bored moment once you get hooked on it! You will find a lot of action and some great humor stunt by Heath. Besides being known for his role in Brokeback Mountain, Heath Ledger will always be remember forever in our hearts for a long time! We love you Heath. May you rest in peace!
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
It's Oscar Worthy!
Johnny Depp stars in the best movies ever, and Sweeney Todd is one of them. Based off the 1979 Broadway musical, Depp plays a man named Benjamin Barker, who was removed from his family and taken away to prison for a crime he didn't comment. 15 years later, he returns as Sweeney Todd; the demon barber of Fleet Street. When he comes back to London, he encounters Mrs. Lovett played by Tim Burton's wife Helena Boham Carter and slits out the throats of innocent men who come to his shop for a shave so he can get the revenge he wants truly badly on the judge who ruined his life.
I won't spoiled the rest of the movie for you, not even the ending, but I will tell you this...Sweeney Todd is one hell of a serious good movie, and it's got a little bit of humor of it. But the best part about the movie is it's a musical. I'm a fan of musical movies but I strongly dislike horror films, but this one was more than I expected. Johnny and Helena's singing was truly remarkable and the fake blood they use in the movie was outstanding, you can't tell whether or not it look real. To me, it took too bright to ever look like blood. You'll be stunning amazed once you watch the movie. If you're a fan of Johnny Depp, Tim Burton or just like musicals or horror movies, this one is for you.
The movie is nominated for best actor, best director and best actress. Johnny Depp totally deserves to take home the Oscar!
