Compartment (2005)
Saw this at a Las Vegas screening
I saw "Carma" at a screening here in Las Vegas, and I really dug the movie. The director was present and had some interesting things to say during the Q&A session.
Apparently, the movie (at least the story of the "Car Owner") was based on real events in the director's life. Talk about a colorful life.
Speaking of colors, my favorite thing about the movie is it's use of color, an obvious allusion to the great Spaghetti Horror films ("Suspiria", "Deep Red", etc.). The soundtrack also rocked. The story challenged the audience in a Lynchian kind of way, and being the big David Lynch fan that I am, I give a big thumbs up to this movie!
Inland Empire (2006)
A Very Important Piece of Cinema
First of all, I love this movie. It has been said that women don't like this movie.
This is easily the most inaccessible Lynch film but also the most memorable movie I've seen in a long time.
The only perceived "flaws" are that it sometimes drags and it was super grainy, home video like. But i totally forgot about those as the movie went on. Like Kubrick, Lynch has a way of commanding your respect and ensuring you that you are in the hands of the consummate auteur. While I don't pretend to have understood the film upon first viewing, I felt that everything, including perceived "flaws", were there for a reason.
Some of the most original images and sounds ever committed to film and also some of the scariest and shocking things I've seen in a long time, watch it if you embrace the unknown and take comfort in being challenged.
