The Power of the Dog (2021)
A slow paced psychological thriller about family conflicts and repressed trauma
Yet again Benedict Cumberbach has amazed us with an incredible performance, but this time my attention wasn't caught by him but rather by young actor Kodi Smith McPhee, whose on-screen role as Peter Gordon was a pleasant surprise, as well as a blow of fresh air. The cultural and historical context of the movie was greatly encompassed, making it seem plausible but also incredibly solid. But even though almost all the general aspects of the movie have been very well executed, the slow paced plot takes a few points out of this, since it can come as boring or stressfull to certain audiences. A more than decent movie with little specks of imperfection, which luckily, are not enough to ruin the general view.
Mutafukaz (2017)
Incredible animation, basic plotline
This movie presents an amazing combination between japanese animation style and the typical setting of the United States' slums. As an animated adaptation of the namesake french comic, I watched this film with very mixed feelings. Even thought the animation (most specifically, the action scenes) is very well executed, the plot still relapses on a lot of boring clichés, leaving us with a sour ending, but some hope to see a sequel eventually.
