The Invitation (II) (2022)

Warning: Spoilers
So, I wrote a review for his movie and for some reason it was not posted. I'm inclined to believe that that is censorship. My issue with the movie was it inserted race into the plot. It's a movie about vampires. I don't think vampires care what color someone is. Seeing as how vampires don't even exist. Admittedly I didn't get far into the movie. Talking about how you need to unpack in therapy why you date white men is ridiculous. Saying that the British are polite because of their guilt over colonialism is stupid. I didn't understand what point it served to put those comments into the movie. It seemed more like a movie about racism with vampires thrown in.

I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it for what it is. It's not Harry Potter. It's also not really about Newt. It was entertaining. I wish Johnny Depp had been able to continue his role. That being said Mads was amazing in his role. As was Jude Law.

Horrible

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was s***. There was no resemblance to Jane Austen's Anne. It was made for people who have no ability to think for themselves. They break the fourth wall for nothing. There is no subtlety. There is modern vernacular strewn throughout. Dakota Johnson's accent was cliche and boring. She brings too much modernity to give a sincere performance. Do not be fooled by the costumes, accents or sets. This is not a worthy adaptation. I don't understand how you can fail so abysmally. The source material is perfection. I wanted to give zero stars.

Stupid

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was stupid. I know that's harsh, but it was. It was pointless. But I guess if by your thirties you haven't created some stability in your life I shouldn't be surprised. The main female character just quit her life and there was no real explanation for it. Then vows to not drink and other things and fails at that. She's a train wreck of a person and then we're meant to believe that by the end the situation she's in is going to fix her. That's not how life works.

Not Peter Pan
12 July 2022
If you watch this hoping to see a retelling of Peter Pan, you won't. I think they're trying to talk about mental illness which confuses me to begin with. The acting is not great. The only reason I gave it two stars is because of Vanessa Redgrave and Joely Richardson. Their acting was the only decent parts of the film. Adult Wendy was abysmal. Not worth watching. Don't waste your time.
