Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
I didn't want it to be over! (Possible spoiler included)
What a great film! I was very impressed with this third installment of the series. I was a little wary, having read some mixed reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Though I had just finished rereading the book and knew what was coming, I found myself startled more than a few times. What great special effects! The three actors portraying Harry, Ron, and Hermione have grown quite a bit as actors and have reached a certain level of maturity that is very evident in this film. For those who haven't read the book, it may be hard to understand some things. SPOILER: For instance, someone who didn't read the book wouldn't know what Sirius Black was talking about when he asked Professor Lupin if he had taken his potion that day. They wouldn't know that Professor Snape was the one who prepared the potion. There are a lot of things like that left out of the movie, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment. I would have gladly spent a couple more hours in the theater if they had wanted to expand the movie to fill in those gaps because I didn't want it to be over so soon. I'll just have to see it again! and again! and again!
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
A great ride!
Wow! I have to admit that whenever I've read great reviews of a movie, I always wind up being a little disappointed. Not that the movies were bad; they just didn't always live up to the hype. Not so with this movie. By far and away, this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Very, very entertaining. It was funny, scary, exciting, and mysterious all at the same time. Johnny Depp has become one of the best actors in Hollywood. I remember him from "21 Jump Street" and it's been wonderful seeing him grow as an actor. As far as Orlando Bloom goes, he was great in "The Lord of the Rings" but even better in this movie. He made a great leading man and I look forward to seeing him in many more films. I hope they make a sequel. Great fun and a great ride.
Submerged (2000)
A pretty good movie
This movie was better than I expected. I don't think it deserved an R rating, though. I've seen PG-13 films with worse language and violence. I found this movie entertaining and I enjoyed it. If you're a person who dissects everything, you might find a lot wrong with it, but if you take it for its face value, I think you'll find it entertaining.
Pearl Harbor (2001)
Two hunks for the price of one!
I really enjoyed this film. I don't care if it was historically accurate or not--that's not why I watch movies. I look to be entertained and I was. I was stationed in Hawaii and enjoyed seeing the places I used to walk (Palm Circle, for one). I loved both Ben and Josh and would hate to have to make a choice between the two. I have to admit, though, that the love scene between Josh and Kate in the parachutes made my knees weak. Because I cry at the end every time I watch it, I would prefer a happier ending and would have skipped the Doolittle raid, but all in all, I give it two thumbs way, way up!
The Replacements (2000)
A must for Keanu fans!
This was the ultimate feel good movie for me. I have watched it dozens of times and still laugh out loud and catch myself smiling each and every time. The music was great. My only disappointment was when I bought the soundtrack and a lot of my favorite songs weren't on it. Otherwise, no complaints for this great movie.
