The Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@%! (2023)
The film is a summary for the non readers
I was really looking forward to watching this when I found out they've made a movie. But it wasn't what I hoped it would be.
Having really high expectations as the book truly changed me and seeded many of the ideologies I have today, this film seemed like just a summary of the book for the non-readers out there.
Yes there was some great shots and it was cool to have visuals to something I read off a piece of paper, but it doesn't have the same effect nor feel from reading the whole book.
Concepts that were discussed in the book like the feedback loop from hell, our non-special-ness and disappointment Panda ( just to name a few) seems to just come and go in the film as opposed to the book where Manson spent whole chapters on them.
Having said all that, this film is a pretty good autobiography of Mark Manson and it does bring to life the more memorable parts of his book. It just doesn't do the book justice in the way I hoped it would.
The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse (2022)
Give the mole his cake
"And that's why we're here... to love, and to be loved.."
A story of friendship, finding one's self, and acceptance. Filled with one liners that speak volumes, every few minutes you'll hear phrases that remind you what life is really about.
" What's the bravest thing you've said?"
"Help... Asking for help isn't giving up, it's refusing to give up."
With its simple but beautiful animation, this snowy short film is definitely made for cozy winter nights. A dash of Winnie the Pooh, mixed with The Gruffalo, and raised by master Ooagway himself, this is a story to remember.
Even though it only has four characters: the boy, the mole, the fox, and the horse; anyone can relate to the feelings that these characters have.
"I think everyone feels a bit lost sometimes, I know I do..."
