No Time to Die (2021)
Putting the Jar Jar Binks into Bond
Tough one this. As a fan of Craigs bond (bar Casino Royale) and a 2yr wait, I went into NTTD with great expectations.
The opening scene was fine, great even. Then we set off on a familar Bond journey until, quite without reason, a female 007 appears.
And this is my main issue with this movie.
Surely I'm not alone in wondering why producers feel compelled to add characters such as this? At best pointless, at worst very comparable to Jar Jar Binks... and we know how THAT went. Our female 007 is more butch than any Bond before her, dresses like shes a hybrid of Matrix/Miami Vice/a guest on Ellen, and has the charm of herpes. She presents with an unearned swagger and gives a very wooden performance.
I'm worried the 007 franchise will now never be the same. If the next instalment bows greatly to female empowerment, I'll wait for the download. If, god forbid, it has a female 007, I'm out for good.
As for the rest if the movie, the actions OK but the runtime could have been cut by an hour and we wouldn't have missed anything.
All-up, an entertaing 3hrs but forgetful... unlike QoS, Skyfall and Spectre... which gave us the best of Bond and I fear will never be seen again.
Oasis Knebworth 1996 (2021)
Sunsheeeeiiiinnnneeee....
Probably a bit biased as a lifelong fan, but had to say my piece.
Just finished watching the first showing of O-LAK and it was epic. Supersonic gave us the story of the band and Knebworth puts us right in the mix.
This is Oasis at their peak, the very top of their game. You can feel the atmosphere and energy... '96 was an epic year in the UK and this film captures it well.
I tried to get tickets but wasn't one of the chosen ones, so this has to do.... and do it does!
Its loud, proud and raw. And its good.
Do yourself a favour... go see this on the big screen.
