Robin and Marian (1976)
The best Robin Hood movie. Bar none.
This is by far the best of the entire lot of Robin Hood movies. Everyone knows the story of Robin in his prime wooing the Maid Marion and fighting Prince John and the Sherrif of Nottingham... But after those days had passed... What then? This movie explores that and does it very well. It explores the final days of some of the characters (which I'm not going to say) and explores the life of an aging hero and the love of his life while dragging his tired and beaten body out of retirement to once again battle the Sherrif of Nottingham. This movie has been overlooked for over 25 years and overshadowed by such big budget movies as Robin Hood with Kevin Costner... But true fans of the rogue look at this movie with a fondness they reserve for few of the other movies. The casting of Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn is one of the things that make this movie so great. They play off of each other so well and make the movie that much better.
If you can see this one... do so. If you can own it... get it immediately. You won't be disappointed.
Don't Say a Word (2001)
ok at best
While the movie was a bit predictable... And some of the acting was nothing to write home about... It was fairly enjoyable. But I just couldn't bring myself to root for the main characters. "You want to kill them? Ok. Go ahead."
Good if you can go to the early show and get a lower priced matinee. Better than the average "wait until it gets to the video store and rent it", but not a "must see" either.
Hearts in Atlantis (2001)
It was pretty good if allowed to stand separate from the book
One newspaper headline set the stage for a fairly large change from the story in the book. But without giving anything away... The story stands on it's own fairly well.
There were a few times where I could remember some nearly word for word dialogue from the book. Which was quite alright with me.
Also, they have SOMEWHAT set themselves up for a franchise here since the book was four intertwined stories and this movie only encompasses the first of the four.
