Brilliant, if a bit risqué!
29 July 2007
I've loved this film ever since it first was released in '99. Superb sets, talented singers, lively music and mind blowing dance routines. A good family film - if you don't mind your kids seeing a dozen or so women in suggestive outfits in the Joan Collin's scene.

The modern twist this film gives is brilliant - true, at times it can get a bit over the top, but thats what kids love. Its not a particularly long film but fun enough if you've got 80 minutes to spare.

Lovable characters all the way through - even the bad guys. Well worth a see.

7, almost an 8/10.

Unmissable

Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was a refreshing change from the typical teen serial killer movies - this was real life. Theron done an amazing job as Aileen, she changed her whole appearance, her posture, her voice, everything that could be changed. She definitely deserved that Oscar.

The creators of the movie done a brilliant job at exploring Aileen's life and the killings. My only gripe with the film is that Christina Ricci's character, Selby, looks a tad too young to play her lesbian lover and her naivety reminds me of the kids/teen films she started off in, such as Casper.

Apart from that, Monster is possibly one of the best films in the past decade. Shocking, moving, traumatising are just some of the words I'd use to describe Monster. Don't miss it.

Sheer perfection
29 June 2007
I have read several books by women incarcerated in Ireland in the 20th century.

People who enjoy this film might be interested to know that the last laundry for 'fallen women' only closed in 1996.

However, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I found it disturbing, intriguing, devastating, upsetting...

Not for the faint hearted or those who get upset easily. I love this film, its given me a visual insight into the books I love so much.

I highly recommend this film to everyone who is interested in this sort of thing.

A great family film

Possibly one of the best family films ever made by Disney. Jodie Foster is brilliant as the wayward teen who's going nowhere. Even at that early age you can see why she has gone on to become one of Hollywoods most successful actresses - she's definitely underrated.

Candleshoe is packed full of memorable one liners that just stick with you for months, even years, following watching this film.

I grew up watching it and have never stopped! Also, 'Grandmother's' accent is perfect, considering the actress herself is American.

Watch this film, you won't be disappointed!

Unfortunately I had to surf the Net and order it from America to get hold of my copy, but if you DO find it to buy, don't hesitate.
