Slaughterhouse-Five (1972)
Still love it
Times has passed since I read the book and saw the movie. It remains one of my favorites. It's a great way to get unstuck in time. My favorite scenes include the night canopy. Worth it and recommended.
La nuit américaine (1973)
Still and remains
One of the great movies about movies, Day for Night, La nuit américaine, is Truffaut's great poke at himself and the process of filmmaking. Bisset is beautiful and at her best. Watch it through the Criterion Collection with special features. Worth it and recommended.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017)
Entertaining, but borrows
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has a lot of charm and great period details. It grabs a lot from other cabaret artists. A good watch, but derivative.
Feud (2017)
I loved it
Feud is really great. I'm going back to watch it a third time. So entertaining, also insightful, not just regarding old Hollywood, which is period spot on, but the dynamics of these personalities. Sarandon is great, as usual, but, for me, Lange steals the show.
The Scarapist (2015)
Seems to be a lot of buzz
This movie is showing up in my feeds, so despite the release date, it caught my attention. Now I can see why. It's definitely original. I was actually surprised by the maturity and depth of the performances, especially Spicuzza. The music and and visual look of the film drew me in and held me there. Looking forward to more work by this director.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Take a drive
Mulholland Dr. Is not my favorite Lynch, but his most developed work. Watts is steaming and runs the emotional gambit. Famous audition scene still resonates. Also Silence and the marvelous Rebekah Del Rio. Need to watch this again.
Psycho (1960)
Hitchcock at his peak
Psycho is really the pinnacle of Hitchcock. Every performance is on point. It's a post-method era, and Perkins embodies the role. Leigh is the invocation of terror. Great twists.
