Under Wraps (2021)
Not the throw back I wanted
We all know Disney is more corny than anything but it seems in the last decade, the shows have produced mediocre acting, directing and writing. Under wraps, the original, was a classic of the older Disney made movies for tv that had a better story line. This new version, while still Disney, is a very sad attempt to recreate the original. The costumes for the mummies themselves are laughable and not even close to being slightly realistic; i.e. Makeup still on the mummy's eye lids (uh yeah that would have been gone a long time ago), the fact that the mummy was directly exposed to direct air and humans with no protective barrier...etc.... Disney write's and costume designers got very sloppy and lazy and honestly should be ashamed of this movie. The dialogue is juvenile and lacking and shows Disney's lack of understanding true kids of today.
Cinderella (2021)
Meh
The song choices from the different eras is reminiscent of Ella enchanted without the charm. The over the top theatrics and bad directing destroyed what could have been a classic such as Brandy's Cinderella. I'm not sure who decided to use the same boring troupe of a smart but clumsy or ditzy female lead, but please just stop. Just stop. The stupid gimmicks that are used to draw attention to Cinderella is the only thing that drives the story forward. Someone please stop giving Jame Corden the ability to make movies.
He's All That (2021)
SO.MUCH.TEETH
Obviously this was a cringe worthy movie. The amount of smiling and white teeth (nothing wrong with good dental hygiene, it just comes across so unnatural on ALL the smiling she does) that the male female lead does, I'm surprised her jaw/cheeks didn't hurt. It hurt to watch. The supporting characters seemed to carry the story the most, but the unrealistic story line and personalities are troublesome. If anything, this seemed to just be a platform for the lead female to cast a few minutes of fame on the select few talents she does have; note its not acting. Please don't wast time. Its not even the kind of movie that turns into a cult favorite. This turns into the 'wtf were they thinking' pile that is sadly kept in the back of some dusty old closet.
Sweet Girl (2021)
A major disappointment
The plot and last minute twist of this movie falls flat as there is little to no character development, the delivery is underwhelming and the story completely unrealistic. The side developments of the no-named character/bystanders throughout the movie either behave in unrealistic manners or due to bad directing, don't have cuts/bruises, are off mark in fights, etc. The title character also is lacking. Essentially Rachel is written as a child of a young age. From her mannerisms to how she talks, there is no maturity there. It's stated she is 18, but the writers either don't know how a 18 year old woman acts or suck as writers. Jason Mamoa's character falls flat and while his character is the main vehicle to drive the plot for over half the movie, it leaves the viewer bored and checking to see when the movie will be over. There are many unrealistic inconsistencies such as the easily lifting of government badges or not hitting the break in a car when someone is trying to control the steering wheel. More than once I yelled come on! All in all, the plot twist is on par with a bad M Night Shamylan movie crossed with a Steven Segall movie.
Descendants: The Royal Wedding (2021)
Half finished
The animation was choppy and seemed so unfinished, like the production was rushed and they forgot the add any polish on it (think the newest Cats movie). The script felt flat as well compared to the live action.
