Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Not your typical horror
This movie was hilarious. I love how Nick Cage said absolutely nothing through the whole movie and they just have scenes of him cleaning things. Obviously inspired by Five Nights at Freddy's, but it doesn't try to be a knock off, more of a parody. I'm not a person that can handle horror well, but this movie never gets to that point, though I wouldn't let your kids watch it. Some of the stuff that's presented to you ends up being a rollercoaster of information and then there's a sex scene where one of the animatronics is just watching them and rather than run off terrified, they keep going, which isn't even the weirdest part of that scene. It's meant to be a joke and you should watch it expecting nothing to make sense.
Thumbtanic (2000)
Great Parody
This was an excellent parody of the movie Titanic and being full of its own quirky characters and jokes, was really funny. I loved it from beginning to end and I like how the whole thing ended up being a conspiracy to get Geraniums' Necklace in the end. And the ship's designer being obsessed with monkeys and the gigantic spider, oh my lord, please watch this.
Titanic: Conspiracy of Failure (2020)
Alright, but with a lot of misinformation.
There's a lot in this documentary that's great, but there's also a lot that's wrong with it.
The use of Titanic: Honor and Glory's models and animations is something very new. Most documentary makers wouldn't bother going out searching for people trying to make the most accurate model out there. I actually enjoyed seeing their work in this documentary. My complaints are more in the historic narrations and such.
They imply that the Titanic's steel was inferior, which is very false, but they do also claim at the same time that the steel was more brittle in the cold water, which is true. It's a weird mixed bag for that one.
They claim at one point that there was a smouldering fire in Titanic's coal bunker, but then within minutes say it was a blazing fire reaching extreme temperatures???? They said something like 1,800 degrees, which is not at all the case. They also claim the fire was bad enough to warp the bulkhead of the ship and cause a leak in the ship, which is very new information to me and sounds like they took something from the inquiries out of context for the sake of making the fire sound like it was so much worse than it actually was. Also, if the fire reached 1,800 degrees, smoke would have been billowing out of the coal bunker and suffocating the crew. The swimming bath was also directly above this location as well, and would have roasted passengers like lobsters had it actually been that hot. They also seem to miss the actual point of the fire, which is that it actually saved the ship from capsizing. Because of the displaced coal, the ship ended up listing a couple of degrees to port, which counterweighted the water in the sinking. Without that list, the ship would have capsized around the time the first lifeboats were being launched.
They also make a big deal out of the binoculars, which is something that is a non-issue. In fact, messing around with binoculars would have made it harder to spot the iceberg because you're limiting your vision to one spot and if you're scanning all around the ship looking for smaller ice, you're not gonna notice the giant one until even later.
At some point they also claim that the ship should've collided with the iceberg head on, but this is not something that would have worked. Titanic would've sank much faster if it rammed the iceberg head on. Some evidence for this comes from its sister ship Britannic, which struck a mine and couldn't close its water tight doors because the hull was too warped from the explosion. The same thing would have probably happened to Titanic with the iceberg.
They also say that the engines were reversed when the ship was trying to avoid the iceberg, which is not the case. The engines were set to stop, not reverse. This information is outdated.
I find it weird that they would present outdated information and information proven false in this documentary. This documentary was not made to bring anything new to the table, and is just a rehash of old information, some wrong and outdated, made to make it exciting and entertaining. While it was entertaining, the wrong and outdated information in a documentary is unforgivable.
Titanic (2012)
Good, but with many gripes.
If you don't mind historical inaccuracy, then this series is great, but if you're like me and get at least mildly annoyed by them, then you may have a hard time with this movie.
The sets are alright, but things like the first class lounge and even the Grand Staircase have a very dark wood that wasn't used anywhere on the ship. Why did the ship break before the second funnel even touched the water? I don't know of any sinking theories where it does that. Why does the A La Carte restaurant have actual Italians when in real life they didn't? Why was the band playing on the promenade deck? Some of these inaccuracies just seem a little odd.
Another couple of things that bother me more than what was previously mentioned is when they do dancing in the first class. I'm sorry, but what? There was no public dancing in first class like that. And why did one of the officers come over and start dancing with a passenger? He's on duty and would never in a million years do something like that. Captain Smith seems a little snippy with some people, which really seems out of character. Also why is he the one wanting to go faster? Neither him or Ismay wanted to go super fast and if they were going to break any records it would be the Olympic's record, but they were going full speed through the ice so there is that.
Perhaps the biggest gripe I have with this series, though, is they try to do this thing where they focus on seperate stories all leading up to a certain point, and as a result, each episode feels super rushed. It feels like it was a last minute decision, too. This would have flowed so much better if they went chronological order rather than showing different bits of different stories in each episode.
There are things in this movie that I do appreciate, though. I like how there's focus on the stewards. There aren't really any movies that focus on that part of the crew. Character development was really good, and I loved seeing how the different families and characters interacted with each other and how they finally had breaking points that changed the characters' lives.
Over all, the series wasn't that bad, and would've been so much better if they had just shown it in chronological order rather than following different stories for each episode.
Titanic (1997)
Probably the best Titanic movie.
If you ever wanted to go back in time and experience the tragedy yourself, this is the movie to do it. Even if you don't care much for the love story, you'll be blown away by the sets and the actual sinking. There's not many movies like this where they rebuild a ship and then sink it over and over to get the perfect shot. It was very much worth it in the end because you feel like you're actually witnessing the tragedy unfold in front of you. While the sinking isn't 100% accurate today, it was as close as they could manage to get it back then. There are a couple of things that are controversial with the families of the survivors and victims, though, such as William Murdoch's death, and the director did later admit he should've done things slightly differently in that regard. I've probably watched this movie dozens of times myself and I can't get enough of it. Even if you don't like romance, give this movie a shot.
Luca (2021)
Great Movie for Everyone
This movie was great from start to end. The character and creature designs were very good and the story was also great. I don't think I have any gripes with this movie.
A Night to Remember (1958)
One of my Favorites
This movie has always been one of my favorites. It tells the human side of things very well and is fairly accurate, at least as accurate as they could be back when this was filmed, with a few errors. It's also a great classic movie for people more interested in classic movies.
